Coombes Ditch was a hugely disappointing animal who threated more times than he delivered. Colin Brown regarded him so highly he chose him over Desert Orchid in the King George, the rest is history.
I put that down to his breathing problem to be fair to the old boy. He had to be given oxygen many times after finishing a race, so if he was sometimes not putting it all in at the finish then that is probably the reason.
One horse that I was surprised didn’t make the grade over the bigger ones was Barton. Really thought he was going to be something special.
Jumped well enough and looked good on his chasing debut but I got the distinct feeling that Barry Geraghty’s style was less suited to the horse than that of Timmy Murphy’s.
I actually thought Barry rode him well. A far more confident/competent rider in my opinion who rather than sits and steers in a hesitant manner (like Timmy does) he actually looks for and finds the stride. I think he suits Harry rather well with the confidence he has.
If you are unsure what I mean with regards to Timmy, watch the V.C today on his effort on Well Chief and the approach to the fences. Far from impressive I’m afraid.Jaysus, I’m not sure if I am highly impressed or highly disturbed by the way this thread turned out. What a small world the web is!
Hello Gamble.
It warms the heart to see that you are still around
this place, it makes me all nostalgic!
Good Lord!
Indeed!
Obviously not speaking in an out of turn way here, you know I’m not like that but what are your thoughts on the entry mate?
http://www.racingpost.com/horses2/cards … 2010-01-07Didn’t realise that Seabird, apologies.
It was a good seven years ago since I last visited. Good to hear Aidan he has Florida Pearl with him now though, two good old boys together.Another here who totally recommends the INS. Gorgeous place and very serene.
Sad to hear Vintage Crop is alone these days though, the last time I visited he had his pal Danoli in with him and it was some sight to see the pair stood sleeping next to each other out in the paddock. There is probably a reason VC is alone, I can’t see the stud leaving him alone for no reason and I would be very surprised if there wasn’t. As for him being the only gelding there it wouldn’t bother him at all.
The Arkle room is lovely too, they play a dvd in there and there is never a dry eye to be seen when folks walk out after watching it.
Hope you have a fantastic time over here whatever you do Gaz, i’m certain you will.Loved that horse to absolute bits and it is saddening to know he has passed away but i’m also very thankful that he had the long and richly deserved retirement that was his due. Sleep well big lad.
It is lovely to see this thread on here, good on you GD for starting it.
I’m sure when Debs see’s this thread it will mean an awful lot to her of that i am sure. I have had the chance already to speak with her this week but i will take this opportunity again to send her hugs.
Very saddened to hear he has passed away. An absolute utter genius and quite simply the best there ever was or is ever likely to be. One thing is for sure he will never ever be forgotten. R.I.P Vincent.
Awful news. The owner is a lovely lady and a true horse lover. Was better known for owning J-J Henry in years gone past. No doubt she will be devastated with losing Moor Spirit.
Peter Beaumont was 3 from 55 and has clearly cut back his operation in recent years. It happens
From recent conversations with the folk at home i heard Peter has not been too well lately and i think that is probably reflected in his results.

——————————————————————————–
Did anyone see the carry on with that loose dog that chased a horse through a complex fence at Badminton Horse Trials on Saturday. Could have been really nasty. There are no words to describe those who let dogs loose at horse events
Yep, seen that. It could have been an absolute disaster and as much as i love dogs it really is about time that they were refused entry to this. It was very lucky that that horse was an old hand and took it in his stride the way he did.
My cousin was once riding work at York Racecourse (when it was still allowed) and a doberman went after the young two year old filly he was riding. It chased and snapped away at her until the filly just went buck mad and reared over backwards trapping my cousin underneath. How the hell he wasn’t killed i don’t know and he was lucky to walk away with just broken ribs and severe bruising. The filly was fine luckily albeit very shaken up. Nope, dogs and running horses do not mix well.According to reports today he is looking a wee bit doubtful.

I do remember thinking to myself after seeing his last win that he hopefully has no repercussions from running on that ground. Whether that has anything to do with it is neither here nor there but a shame anyway if he doesn’t make it to Haydock.
Don’t suppose you have any Becher Chases? I’ve been looking all over for them on the net, but have had no luck
Good call, i’d love to see the 2000 Becher win again of Young Kenny.
What an absolutely stinking rotten Godawful day it has been, i hope to God the rest of the meeting gets better. Condolences to the connections of Mel In Blue (please BBC move that bloody landing side camera!) and Exotic Dancer.
He has now been retired according to the Racing Post race analysis. Glad to see it to be honest, lovely horse.
When you put a saddle on and they bronc and bronc and throw themselves into all sorts of shapes – that is an indicator they haven’t been broken in!
It is the way you word and put things SL, class. Made me laugh anyway

No offence there, KJ.
