Whoosh.
November 21, 2009 at 22:14 #259880A quite stunning performance. He cantered all over a good field.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
November 21, 2009 at 22:31 #259883I’ll put my tin-hat on here….
I thought the response to his win was very much over the top. Someone on RUK said something like ‘you can multiply the winning distance by 10’. Or certainly something similar.
I disagree.
There’s no doubting it was a smooth impressive performance, but I just felt that Murphy had learned his lesson from an earlier race when he got mugged on Starluck. My belief is that Murphy feared that ‘Harry would not sprint away if he asked him for an effort after the last hurdle and therefore decided to ‘keep hold’ of him as long as possible. Only shaking the reins the last 75 yds or so. There’s undoubtedly a bit of a wayward streak about him. Every race last year he ran down hurdles and looked a bit of a moody bugger to be honest. I’m not certain he had as much in hand as people think.
Still a very exciting horse though.

TAPK has a little bit on at 22 with betfair for the RSA,purely on the fact that he looks like a chaser, who just so happened to run against another potential Top class chaser in
Mikael d"Hageunet
at Cheltenham! Diamond Harry has filled out quite a bit over the summer,he has lost that gangly weak frame he carried last year!Serious horse,he is the only one who could give Mikael a fright come March!

Bad luck TAPK; he stays hurdling, according to my sources.
November 21, 2009 at 23:05 #259889Rory,i hope he does stay hurdling as i have a very one sided book in the RSA and Diamond Harry would only cover my stakes on
Mikael d"Hageunet
, Long run wont even cover them should he win!Having said that, your sources Rory should reconsider keeping him hurdling as he could make one hell of a Chaser and there are far more opportunitys for him jumping fences, those Fixed brush hurdles proved today,he wants a fence!
November 22, 2009 at 11:01 #259947Won very easily racing freely and without cover – a rarity in itself. No reason to send him chasing until he has had a crack at Big Bucks. Having said that Big Bucks is very good and will be very difficult to beat.

Diamond Harry is undoubtedly a talented horse! But anyone who knows their horses knows he is not a Good ground horse,he has No chance of winning a World hurdle unless the ground is at least Soft, thats why the sooner connections send him over fences the better!Come Cheltenham they will have seen sense and it will be Fences not hurdles he is jumping!TAPK knows!
November 22, 2009 at 18:12 #260033Very impressive performance by Diamond Harry. Remember thinking the same on his first start last term. Just wonder (if he goes chasing) whether he’d get enough experience? Looked light in condition at times last year. Possibly at his best fresh. Also, kept fresh to win the same Newbury bumper two seasons running, so I believe connections know this to be the case. If the same is true this time around, might only get the chance to run once over fences prior to the RSA.
Dare I say it after such an impressive display, this may be a missed opportunity to gain fencing experience.

I would be very surprised if thoughts about the ground next March had any bearing on which way they go. The horse handled the ground in the Ballymore and was just beaten by two quicker horses on the day. Chances are the ground will not be any quicker next year.
The concerns are whether he is good enough to beat Big Bucks and if he will get a strong enough pace to allow him to settle which we will only find out about on the day.
With the advent of doctored ground it is the quicker ground horses who have the most to worry about where Festival ground is concerned.
November 22, 2009 at 21:54 #260068Seems a no-brainer to stay hurdling to me- apart from Big Bucks the staying division looks weak but the RSA looks white-hot as the better staying hurdlers have all gone novice chasing.
they say you should never be afraid of one horse, that seems apt here.November 22, 2009 at 22:16 #260072Slight concern as to whether he’ll be quite so good over regulation hurdles as the brush variety but certainly worth giving it a go to see.

Wait for the announcement folks!Today was the day for the Diamond to lay it down to Big Bucks and there can be No excuses as he started to wander as the pressure was applied!

1/5 Diamonds next run is over fences Rory! I am glad your sources listen to the King! He knows you know!
December 30, 2009 at 09:23 #266407Fair enough the gallops were frozen but Me Voici and Reve de Sivola both won so unless Diamond Harry was more affected then it’s safe to assume that as was thought, he isn’t likely to be a top-notch hurdler and should go chasing now – which is what they are doing. Can’t wait.
