Ah I’ve got it I’m pretty sure. I’m only halfway to formulating my question though so won’t say for now in case anyone else wants a go at answering. ;-)

Smallbutmighty = a her actually :rose: Delighted to get one correct against these brains. Don’t have a question ready (and Strictly Final taking precedence tonight) so go ahead and put up a new question in my absence and perhaps I can take a later turn?

Fascinating thread though, learnt lots and interested to see mention of Primitive Rising racing, he went on to be a sire of World class event horses.

Thought the finish was a nice example of what a fit game horse can do WITHOUT the whip. I know Dream Ahead has tendency to hang, so maybe that was the cause for pretty limited whip use from Buick in battling to the line against the mare, but Dream Ahead earns additional credit for TRYING to win himself.

Well done Dream Ahead, and to WB. I doubt the extra smacks Goldikova got made a any difference to how hard she tried or fast she ran. You don’t have her amazing record if you don’t know how to win and put the effort in, regardless of whip.

I don’t have very strong objections to the whip (under the prior October 2011 rules – already much better than they were a number of years ago) but this example caught my eye with the recent whip changes so topical!

I have to agree, both that AOB is a very able trainer, and that his non-quotes are a waste of everybody’s time! I actually have the feeling he’s getting worse at the talking but telling you absolutely nothing, I don’t THINK he used to be quite so bland? I find Paul Nicholls is a bit the same way but not quite in AOB’s league.

The frequent ‘listen’ is just a turn of phrase – a lot of Australians do it too.

Huge contrast with John Gosden, wo seems much more candid, and at the end I usually find I feel I know more than I did at the start of the interview with him!

So please tell me – WHO is Aidan O’Brien talking to all the time? And why? Don’t they have eyes/TV? The apparent extent seems excessive. Still seemed to do it at big meetings when all the big partners seemed to be there? Why not actually speak to them? Or is he talking to a shrink to calm his nerves? Or recording his instant impressions??! or his bookie?

Joseph O’Brien looked to possibly suffer from the same affliction on Sunday… walking round behind the stalls before the Arc, he appeared to be muttering covertly into his goggles… so did he have an earpiece? Microphone? Or just talking to himself… Hmmm.. The cameras stayed on him quite a while

I would imagine it is ALL those involved that have to be available on the same day as not all evidence or whatever heard yet.

So that is the specific BHA stewards or whatever that have been at the first two days, plus Howard Johnson, everybody’s legal reps, along with whatever witnesses or other folk they still need.

If you’ve ever tried to arrange any kind of meeting you’ll appreciate how hard it can be to round up a group of people in one place at one time – especially as this extra hearing date will only be being arranged now. So I can follow that bit.

However I do agree it has dragged on ridiculously already, don’t know why the disciplinary not being heard until now anyway?
From limited reports it all seems terribly simple anyway:
    Horse had op
Trainer knew it had op and ran it subsequently
Op against rules (is there any suggestion of any ambiguity in rules or was it plain that not allowed?)
Trainer is licensed and so bound by published rules. If he chooses not to acquanint himself with the rules then that’s his lookout – ignorance no defence. Reported that HJ asked vet if horse could run again after op – not up to vet to say from rules point of view – only from veterinary/physical ability surely?

One thing puzzles me – why did the horse have a post-mortem as surely not routinely done in racehorse deaths unless cause unexplained (and put down due to apparent leg injury wouldn’t warrant one – would it?) or are PM’s more common than one would expect? Or was horse insured (lots of racehorses AREN’T due to expense) and so PM done?

Without the PM trainer would not have been caught out as de-nerving would not have been discovered.

Re: Ketamiine – it’s vet use and desirability for theft featured in a Dick Francis novel too!

    Too easy!

Random trivia, our (grey!) pony has stayed overnight at the very place – but no idea if it was Des’s old box or not…

We are going for the first time ever (then Badminton Horse Trials for two days at weekend!)

Am really looking forward to it. Am jumping fan so Nicky Hnederson’s first on list. Be interested to see Barry Hills’ too, and whatever else we can fit in!

Anyone know what is the Lambourn Racing Museum? Have seen mention of it but not where/what or opening times. Worth looking at or not? Not in prefernce to yards – but maybe in afternoon?

    Interesting thread and interesting idea.

Bonny looking horse though I hope he gets some hind shoes on soon as looks like he’s running out of hoof from some of those pics!

Good luck with him and your project.

Keep us posted, looking forward to hearing more about him in the future. :)

Well it was at home I rode him but he was known ‘with’ the space, and yes it was after May 2008.

That rules quote about protected names reads rather as though those are Intenationally protected? rather than just in GB.

So are we sure GB classic winners are not protected, in GB at least, even if not beyond that? :?

Incidentally I’ve ridden Sri Kuantan!

Famusly first choice of name for Desert Orchid was Desert Air I think, but denied as already existed Desert Heir (or vice versa) which will sound the same on a commentator’s tongue of course.
