Names are suffixed by the country the animal was born/registered in, hence
Galileo (FR)
Galileo (GB)
Galileo (IRE)
Galileo (POL)They appear without the suffix when running in that country I think, so Galileo would have the GB on the end on racecard if running in France or USA for example, but not in Great Britain.
The Polish one was born 2 years before the Irish one that won at Epsom. Unfortunate when horses with essentially the same names are in training around the same time in same country, but undestandable as it’d be pretty hard to have a single name list that covered every racing nation, in all languages!
Always seemed a bit strange that Godolphin’s classic-winning Balanchine was a filly when the ballet dancer Balanchine was a lad I believe!
Why are these French horses getting given names in English anyway? Kauto Star
? "Etoile" surely??!Denman’s an Aussie wine label btw so maybe it’s Irish Denman that’s nicked the name?! <!– s:lol: –>
<!– s:lol: –>Evasive was always a horse that interested to me.
Simply just fell off the face of the earth.
Well named then

Thanks a bundle Prufrock. For future reference how would I go about getting such info without bothering others?e.g.. knowing the breeding but not the name of the horse? Is there an easy answer?Again Thanks.Or is it concealed in the website you provided? .
Are you a subscriber on RacingPost.co.uk ? If so type dam’s name into the search box, select dam (or choose from the results), then if you click on her name you’ll get her progeny if they’ve run.
Otherwise you can register at Weatherby’s online (will need to provide card details etc when registering) for Waetherby’s Bloodstck Reports and click on Free Reports. Click Animal Search. Type in Dam’s name, then choose the option to search by Dam’s name and follow the instructions. It won’t give you a progeny list but you can look up year by year, and it’s free

Polar Lady also has a yearling filly by Saffron Walden btw.
HTH
Fairy yup they are the from the
He is in Training With John Oxx
He is being broken by Gary Witherford and his son the same guy that broke Sea The StarsNot sure is their a name but won’t be out until the end of the season i wouldn’t have thought ala STS.
But surely he’s only a yearling? Born 2009? So will be barely being broken so far (I hope!) as think born early March so just 15 months old now. Yearlings usually broken towards end of year? Not eligible to run until 2011!
No name so far according to Weatherby’s online.
Amusing memories.. but surely the post is titled "…in training today"??!
Presenting sired the first three in the Grimthorpe this year.
….Not quite on a par with first two in the National though is it?

Presenting’s a fantastic sire though – and I’ve been a fan ever since he was a racehorse himself!
:curious: Why??

Old Vic sired the first two in today’s National – is that a unique achievement??
Don’t know the answer but gotta be pretty rare surely?
Well done Old Vic!
Thanks for asking this question Mike – I was wondering the same thing! Thanks for the answers everybody.
Well, Zenyatta would be an idea, and no-one’s nabbed her yet.. maybe she could have at least one race over here for me??
Then I can also either race or sell for exhorbitant sums, her future offspring – hoping she’d be the next Urban Sea!
I’d really like a jumper, but like AC I’d be hiding behind the stands just hoping it came back safe. If in this fantasy world I could also guarantee its safety then a good two-mile chaser would be ideal. Long Run, Master Minded, or perhaps something promising and good-looking by Presenting.
I’m very fond of a moderate but game and nice natured dual purpose chestnut gelding called Russian Invader. He’d be my pet!
My sister went to Donny on Saturday – says Arcalis was one of those working at Doncaster. Plus a big impressive chestnut, but horse wasn’t identified that she could catch. Went well though! I can’t remember if she said it she thought it was one of Ferdy’s?
Few things annoy me more than the race reader neglecting to add the ‘dead’ word to the race comments, when a horse has obviously paid the ultimate penalty. Truly lazy journalism.
Reporting ‘dead’ when they’re not is worse!
Had to afford myself a little smile looking at those hunter chase entries, by the way. You can tell it’s been a long time since Guesty had a runner in any such contest – hunt Dan Buoy with the Grove & Rufford (or whichever) all you want, sir, but those four runs he’s had under Rules since November disqualify him from all hunter chases and points for another season!
gc
Rory – please can you (or anyone else) point me in the direction of previous thread(s) as sounds rather entertaining?
Many thanks
Has any progress been made with trying to find a way of treating grass sickness? I thought Sheik Mo funded lots of research into it after Dubai Millenium died. A horrible thing for a horse to get; poor Mister Baileys; r.i.p.
But Mister Baileys contracted grass sickness (and recovered to some degree – the majority don’t survive at all) YEARS ago didn’t he? Like 8 or more years ago??
Or is my memory unreliable
Or was it long term ill efffects that led to his death?Aha; found it..it was the Dutch rider Edward Gal riding Moorlands Totilas at the Windsor European Championships..he scored 90.75. The horse is jet black and totally stunning..just going to see if there’s anything on utube..I’d love to see it.
Yes this horse has taken dressage world by storm and is indeed sensational to watch.
He should only get better as he advances even further in his training… if he remains sound – the tricky bit, and probably even more so with top dressage horses than racehorses!
Just read about his death after suffering from colic. Perhaps never got the credit that he deserved during his career. Condolences to connections who sound upset about it. Am I right in thinking Commanche Court was an entire, or am I geting him mixed up with another horse? R.I.P.
You’re quite right, he was an entire.
Main wins were the Triumph Hurdle, Irish National and Punchestown Gold Cup.
Got murdered with weight after that and stuggled to reproduce that level of form afterwards but was a real "family" horse and will be sadly missed by the Walsh family to whom he gave such wonderful service.Well he was obviously entire once, but not at his death according to bloodstock database – and that (wedding tackle intact) is very rare is a top chaser, so I doubt he was entire when doing most of his racing.
