I often wonder if its wise to separate AOB from the Coolmore breeding operation. He’s in such a strong position as regards to the organisation that should it be assumed that he has, as part of his contract, shares in the leading stallions that he had trained to be world-class performers.
As such, when he is being interviewed about the respective talents of his stable, it would be expected for him, like any competent person who understands marketing, to look after his own interests and attempt to maximize the potential of his investments.
Very good performance.
The 2nd, the filly Eight Belles, unfortunately broke both front ankles pulling up and was euthanized.
Denis of Cork ran on very strongly for 3rd I believe.
Pyro, Tale of Ekati and Z Humor for me.
To seal the deal the winning rider continued for another full circuit.
But that’s exactly my point. Mr Nicholls may think its "too sharp" but the owners may insist. If the bonus was in fact £2 million, then I can’t see how the owners’ would turn it down.
To be honest, perhaps it would tempt the trainer also – he would get his share of the prize also, a not inconsiderable sum. And having two chances is better than one.
I get just shy of 2.8 million to 1 for that accum.
It’s only 400k…
If a jockey knows another horse is a better fighter than his own mount, wouldn’t it be a reasonable tactic to challenge wide á la Observatory versus Giant’s Causeway?
This is an excellent design. Clear and easy to read.
Outstanding work and kudos to all involved.
Its not about luck. Betting should only be evaluated as a long-term exercise.
The betting markets have overrounds plus there is commission if you use the exchanges. That means the odds as a whole are not in your favour. Statistically, it would be practically impossible to rely on luck to make money.
This is a game of skill. Let there be no doubt.
Visindar retired after recurrance of tendon injury
as an aside, is Fusaichi Pegasus still the most expensive ($4m) yearling sold that won a G1?
Who knows what will happen with The Green Monkey? At least Jalil won a race.
Instead of seeding markets with their own money, why don’t they try to pay market makers like they do in the Finance world.
A contract is set up between the two parties where an agreement is made that the market marker will supply a certain level of volume, at a certain maximum overround and a certain maximum bid-ask (or back/lay) spread for a specified period of time.
The benefit to the exchange is that they get seeded and managed markets. They could even set up a tender process to determine the most suitable market maker.
The market maker gets paid a certain amount which he hopes will offset any loss by being hit by "smart" punters, plus he can benefit from the overround.
How expensive this would be for the exchange I don’t know but it seems pretty clear that Betfair is making ever increasing fortunes off their customers.
A betting exchange that employs bookmakers in a way…

Bernardini & Henny Hughes retired.
I’m tired of hype so George Washington never really caught my imagination. Very good horse but I will remember him more for being told how good he was, rather than what I actually saw.
Personally I don’t think taking Bookie’s prices for this race makes any sense – wait for the US Tote return.
Think about it from the US punters view – here is this horse sent over by AOB (who has only ever won one dirt race in the US versus many attempts – a 2yo race at that), by the same sire (who has never sired dirt G1 horse) as stablemate Dylan Thomas (G1/Derby winner who turned in a truly miserable performance on dirt), who has only won 2 of 4 races this year, who has never ran further than a mile and who has never raced left handed.
Taking 8/1 ante-post rules? You would want your head examined…
Are there any articles/statistics on the size of the racing tipster industry i.e. money spent, most successful etc?
Scat Daddy is 50% owned by Tabor
Interested to read DI’s trainer’s comments about coming back next year – I was under the impression that this was his last run. Anyone shed any light whether I gotten this all backwards?
