http://www.upinclass.comApril 15, 2008 at 11:35 #157873Hi, all. Although I’ve been reading the Forum for quite a while (and love it except on the rare occasions of personal negativity), this is my first time of posting.
I just thought Badactor should get a reply, since US racing doesn’t excite too many positive responses on here.
It’s interesting to see that the form of the Blue Grass Stakes (run at Keeneland on polytrack last Saturday) has not been highly regarded by most US pundits. Pyro raced dismally, yet is still at or near the top of most lists. I don’t think any Derby winner of recent years has made such a poor show in its final prep. Most seem to think all will be different on the dirt at Churchill.
The Blue Grass winner Monba just about gets into most Top 10s, and no one seems to think that Cowboy Cal (second in the BG and by Giant’s Causeway) will be able to transfer his good turf and artificial surface form to the dirt.
I just can’t see Pyro doing a complete turnaround from the Blue Grass. Big Brown for me!

April 15, 2008 at 13:46 #157903Speed is heavy. Barrier draw could draw the line through some major fanceis such as Big Brown. Currently it is Colonel John for me whilst Pyro probably needs more time OR to be relegated to lesser class.

You might be right re Pyro but I am hoping he was disadvantaged by being unable to quicken on the Polytrack. He will get the race run to suit at Churchill at least, with plenty of pace, a lead deep into the straight and a surface that suits lengthening rather than quickening types.
He has done some pretty amazing things this season so I am hoping this is his proper class.April 16, 2008 at 10:16 #158066Lets face it Pyro ran a shocker at the weekend and is way too short in the betting now after that performance.
The other trial I thought that was informative is the Arkansas Derby, which Gayego won with a front running display. He had some good sorts in behind him and on form lines with My Pal Charlie he should have the beating of Pyro and at 14/1 I’m willing to let him carry my money for the race ante post.

http://www.upinclass.comApril 29, 2008 at 10:23 #160550Behindatthebar non-runner which lets Denis of Cork in. Denis won at Churchill last year and has a live chance.
Colonel John in sizzling form (seems to be fine on dirt), but will it be Big Brown’s big day?
May 1, 2008 at 05:33 #160885Eoin Harty trains Colonel John for the Kentucky Derby. His brother Edward trained Captain Cee Bee to win the Supreme Novice at Cheltenham and his first cousin Sabrina trained Won in the Dark to win the Champion 4 Y.O.Hurdle at Punchestown. All within the space of a month. Will the Colonel keep up the good work and win the Derby? Stranger things have happened.
May 1, 2008 at 11:24 #160907Shame about the post position for Big Brown. I’ll be cheering Eight Belles against the boys, she’s got a decent draw.

May 2, 2008 at 03:26 #161022How fitting is that? The two favourites for the Kentucky Derby will be the last two loaded up.
And then Big Brown has to burn up the track to get across into a cosy position, then must fight off what is expected to be a pretty hot tempo.
Colonel John is my top rater.
May 2, 2008 at 04:45 #161024…a bit bleary eyed and a little bewildered,
I’ll be taking my shot with longshot #14 Monba.Good Luck and thanks for letting me visit The Racing Forum!
May 2, 2008 at 15:17 #161123Did anything come to light to explain Pyro’s last time out effort? That aside and with Big Brown drawn in #20, he would have to be seriously considered…
May 2, 2008 at 20:07 #161194Only that he doesn’t seem to act on Polytrack. Backers of Pyro are assuming he’ll be back on form on the dirt.
With Big Brown stuck in stall 20 (he may have to be a superhorse to overcome that draw), things look to be going Colonel John’s way. But I agree with Badactor that Monba is very interesting.
May 2, 2008 at 20:12 #161195Enjoy your race badactor, and thanks for all the info!
