One for the stewards, me thinks, and if there aren’t some lengthy bans on the horizon I’ll be very surprised.
March 18, 2008 at 14:14 #152283(Trapped at work) What happened?
March 18, 2008 at 14:17 #152285Sol Rojo was allowed a 10l lead under 7lb claimer Josephine Bruning, a lead which was soon extended to 25l. The other three jockeys sat absolutely motionless until around 2.5f out, but the leader was still 15-20l clear and obviously not going to be caught.
In a handicap over 12f such actions are simply inexplicable.
March 18, 2008 at 14:18 #152287Thanks. Nice start for the placepot anyway…
March 18, 2008 at 17:55 #152357Double-digit bans have indeed been passed down to the three witless apprentices, although the one for the rider who finished fourth is two days shorter after trainer Andy Haynes’ comments that the horse in question is a very hard ride were noted (so why entrust a boy with it?).
Notwithstanding Haynes’ interjection, it appears that none of the connections interviewed so far are especially chuffed with the rides, Gary Moore’s representative hoping that they all got a good roasting for their troubles.
Never a dull moment…

March 19, 2008 at 00:09 #152473To seal the deal the winning rider continued for another full circuit.
March 19, 2008 at 00:59 #152476Funniest thing I’ve seen for ages!
March 19, 2008 at 09:20 #152512Have only just got round to seeing it – I think Simom Holt’s commentary was spot on, especially when he said it was a farce.
It is races like that one that make an absolute mockery of the sport.
