I repeat, he is retained by Richard Fahey who trains in Malton, North Yorkshire. Where PH rides is dependent upon where RF has runners. What do you expect him to do, say sod you & my retainer Richard, I’m going down South to ride against better jockeys. What a load of twaddle.
It is obvious that Southern based jockeys have the majority of rides in the South & Northern based ones in the North. That does not mean they are inferior.
Did you forget to mention Jamie Spencer is riding in a Claimer at Hamilton tomorrow?
I’ll tell you another Northern based jockey going places (& I don’t mean Newmarket) Silvestre De Sousa.

Paul Hanagan does not avoid riding at Newmarket. He is stable jockey to Richard Fahey who shock horror trains in the North. If Richard deems he has a horse with a winning chance at Newmarket I’m sure that’s where PH will ride.
I don’t understand the elitist attitude towards Newmarket, it holds approx 38 meetings per season which is a drop in the ocean compared to the full fixture list. It isn’t hallowed turf it’s just grass like the rest of them!

As has been pointed out to you a lot of the so called ‘top’ races are uncompetitive & urging an unwilling partner in a competitive race be it North, South East or West to win must give both the jockey & connections a whole lot more satisfaction than someone who has loads of dosh & umpteen horses, a lot of the times used as a status symbol. What did Arthur Stephenson used to say ‘Little fish are sweet’.

The PFA-partnered Football Furlong event is the one day of the year when the sports of football and horse racing come together. All the jockeys wear the representative generic colours of the 20 Premiership football clubs rather than the traditional silks of the owners of the horses they are riding. Horses and jockeys accrue points for the teams which go towards a league table throughout the day. Football Furlong was first won by Tottenham Hotspur at the inaugural event in 2004. It’s a fun day out, now in it’s 7th year & I see nothing wrong with that!

I like him a lot, at least he has personality unlike some on ATR/RUK who talk in a monotonous drone & if you’re a channel hopper you’d soon turn over or fall asleep listening to them but Matt would make you think twice.
He divides opinions a bit like Marmite but he romped homed in the RP survey so frankly the ayes have it.

He seems a nice enough bloke, maybe just very shy. The only problem is he’s not likely to encourage many new converts to come racing as exuberant he ain’t.
You need someone in your face who will stick in your mind to up the ante a Frankie Dettori or Mattie Batchelor type methinks.

And just a quick note to the poster who likes quoting me – if I know I’m wrong and I’m admitting I’m wrong, why on earth get riled over someone who liked The Sun’s way of referring to Gordon Brown as a squatter? It’s stupid.

The poster who likes quoting you has a pen name just the same as you do & it would be polite to use it.

So now I’m stupid to get in your opinion (wrong again) riled.Priceless.

No, there is democracy. The squatter has stated his intention to resign as Labour leader.

You can’t resist the cheap jibes can you, you’re like a broken record with the needle stuck & furthermore you’re wrong, wrong, wrong as you yourself admitted.

    From BBC News:
Mr Darling also confirmed he had spoken with his Conservative and Lib Dem counterparts, George Osborne and Vince Cable, before he and other EU finance ministers approved £52bn in stand-by funding to help struggling European economies.

    Now there’s democracy for you!

Factually incorrect, yes, but true in most ways

Factually incorrect, I rest my case. There is a big difference between how you would like things to be & the reality of the situation until things are sorted out one way or the other. Gordon Brown is not squatting, he is still the PM until negotiation are settled, as are all the Members of the Cabinet still in their posts. I am absolutely sick as you will have gathered at people taking cheap jibes at Gordon Brown.

    Quote jose 1993:
    Gordon is still squatting then.

You know as well as I do that that statement is incorrect.
I suppose Alistair Darling was squatting at the European meeting re the Greece bail out today when he said we would we would not be part of it. Who was supposed to represent us until agreements are reached one way or the other, an empty chair?
