Really sad news. I believe a couple of years ago her & her husband raised over 100k for a cancer charity.
They both seemed to be lovely people liked by all who new them & thought the world of their horses, RIP.I don’t call 2 Cheltenham Festival winners not much, Celtic Giant in the 1999 Fulke Walywn Kim Muir, and Freetown in the 2002 Pertemps Final. The vast majority of trainers would give their eye teeth for just one.
I love Vulrorys Clown, watched him in the flesh quite a few times at Rasen. I remember one day he unseated his rider & I assumed he’d just follow the field & jump the remaining fences as he probably knew his way round there backwards. Not him he avoided everyone which made me smile. Great to hear he’s still going.
I don’t understand your logic or where you are coming from. There are different grades & levels of expertise in all sports.
What would you do with Football, just have a Premier League & get rid of all the dross?

I confess to latching on to him after QC’s retirement but he unfortunately met a sad end when only 8 years old.Talking of small Scottish trainers, W G Young had only his 2nd winner in the last 5 years when Ethan’s Star won the seller at Sedgefield. God loves a trier.
No wonder I rarely post on this Forum anymore. I joined it full of enthusiasm to dicuss my passion i.e. horse racing & the amount of sniping & back biting which goes on beggars belief.
I look forward to both Festivals & imo Aintree has got better & better over the years.
Incidentally the winner of the peoples race got 50k off John Smith for a charity of their choice (County Air Ambulance/IJFwere chosen) & I believe every other runner 5k for their designated charities. Great idea & long may it continue.Love him to bits he’s tough as old boots. It must be a pleasure to own him.
Whilst I can appreciate the ‘superstars’ & their exploits my heart will always belong to horses like Orpen Wide.
Michael Chapman quite often has really good tough horses in their class. I remember the wonderful Ei Ei & prior to that Non Vintage.Quote Jeremy:

Log on Intersky came oh so close at my beloved Bangor on Saturday (well not really he was never going to win but you kbow what I mean) let’s hope he gets his head in front again before retiring!
I love Lough Derg he is such a gutsy character & fully deserves to be horse of the year but I very much doubt he will be. I was so willing him on today but alas not to be.
Is there an award for ‘The peoples Champion’ racehorse which Joe Public can vote for because I’m sure he’d win that.The poll is rendered meaningless on account of the shameful omission of Simon T Lewis.

Congratuations on turning the thread into another pointless slanging match chaps.
This Forum could be so good, it was the first one I joined & I was delighted to realise I knew graysonscolumn through our QC conection. Since then alas for me there is too much cyber bickering going on & quite honestly it has spoilt my emjoyment, so I rarely post now. Is there any chance of starting the New Year having good honest debates & opinions without resorting to what seems to me at times, nastiness.
Steer clear of Bangor-on-Dee. If you do go take an umbrella (there’s no stand and it usually rains), take a packet of Victory-V’s or Fishermans Friends. Dress for wet windy and cold conditions, make sure you put your thermals on and three pairs of socks under your wellies.If possible go don’t go by car but hire a JCB so that you can get out of the muddy car park after racing. (Although you NH fans are such an odd bunch that all this may seem like bliss to you.)
Oh- and it’s in Wales too .What a load of tosh. I have been a member at Bangor On Dee for 15 years & it is a wonderful course,
There is no stand, but a famous ‘bank’ & the views of the course itself & the Welsh hills are magic, with everything to hand. It doesn’t usually rain either & it isn’t windy, oh & I’ve never worn thermals or wellies in my life let alone at Bangor.
It gets a good average crowd too & many of them enjoy a picnic as they bask in the sunshine.
In 15 years we hve been stuck in the car park once, if we average 12 meetings a year that’s one out of 130.
There is something magic about Bangor I would recommend it.
Other favourite courses are Cartmel, Ludlow & Market Rasen.
The flat afficionados are a different species to the NH groupies, polite (if your lucky) applause when the winners come in wheras we’ll give a winner the adulation it deserves.
Hope your wish comes true soon.ATR for me every time. They do have some good class races has as been stated, but I enjoy watching the lesser lights triumph at the smaller meetings. Let’s face it there are a lot more of them than Grade 1 animals.
The bookmaking aspect doesn’t bother me one bit, I bet when I choose to.
The red button is great & some of the in depth interviews ATR get are really good.
I also find some RUK presenters come across as ever so slightly superior, but worse than that imo staid.
It’s all down to personal preference, but if I can see a 50/1 shot come in in a selling hurdle & the owners look as if they’ve won the town hall clock, that’s great by me.
My favourite presenter form RUK/ATR, no contest, the effervescent Matt Chapman!Would you say most horses fall when tired? If so then there should be rule that trainers should show a member of the BHA behind doors that the horse can go the trip.

FFS Corm, do we really need this kind of inane question on a serious racing forum?This is just the sort of reply that leads me to rarely post on this forum now. Mr Wilson is a comparatively new member so could very well be asking be asking the question in good faith. It may be a serious racing forum but we all have to learn.
