Popular Lincolnshire handler Mrs Sue Lamyman passed away last night following her husband who passed away last year.

She was a great friend of Southwell and the people who attend the racing there. In her floppy, flowerpot-men hat, Mrs Lamyman was always friendly, approachable and willing to talk about her horses to any Tom Dick and Harry who asked.

The paddock gang were always chatting to her and not once did she turn away a request. We knew for example that Victory Quest and Miss Christophene were short of work because of snow. We knew when Dart was ready to run a big race.

She would give us news of stable stalwarts like New Beginning – never with punting in mind, but because she liked talking about horses. She was as honest as the day was long and trainers like her are worth their weight in gold.

When Victory Quest won at 25/1 ending Shadows Lengthen’s winning run, the scenes in the Southwell winners enclosure will live long in the memory. The ultimate family pet yard, you could feel their joy all the way to Rolleston station.

    Thoughts are with her family.

RIP Mrs Lamyman – you will be missed.

Really sad news. I believe a couple of years ago her & her husband raised over 100k for a cancer charity.
They both seemed to be lovely people liked by all who new them & thought the world of their horses, RIP.

Very sad to read – the Lamymans were a reassuring, constant presence in Fakenham and Market Rasen selling hurdles and Southwell and Pontefract handicaps for as long as I can remember, and I’m sure plenty of their fans treasured the occasional grander days out with Jamaican Flight in his pomp just as much as they did. Racing is poorer without them.
