Sorry to hear that – know the Wells horses had been under performing for a while a season or two back due to some persistent virus. Was pleased to see Classic Role had managed a Newbury chase win after all that. Sad that the end came so soon after.
I`ll be after timing as usual I should think Gerald
Gerald – on the point of reminiscence Maori Venture won the race that season and jumped uncharacteristically well. Think he crashed out in his next race at Haydock before winning the GN
ED seemed very fluent in marked contrast to other recent runs where he has put in very scruffy rounds . Perhaps Leopardstown was right up his street . With three fallers in the race you`d hardly say the fences were easy but Beef or Salmon handled Leopardstown too.
Good post – not sure if I agree with the opinion but fair enough
On the radio analogy I suspect many older racing viewers may also have enjoyed the old style Radio 2 which has with the odd exception been cast into oblivion and supplanted by former radio 1 types
There may have been things that have benefitted from an edgier more youthful approach but can`t think of many. Look what they did to Ski Sunday
First time I`ve ever backed the horse – if you dismiss the Haydock form as I did, the the opposition didn`t look very serious. Think Exotic Dancer may well have been second especially with Geraghty as a likely booking. Pleased to see Alberta`s Run show his wellbeing though
Congratulations to connections of Snoopy Loopy and anyone who backed him. He shouldn`t have stood much chance against Exotic Dancer who I thought an even bigger disappointment than Kauto Star as I thought his run at Aintree offerd a lot of encouragement. ED`s jumping often lacks fluency but my suspicion is that he`s not doing it for McCoy
Have come across a (poor) photo I took of him in his box from the open day which at least shows all might not be lost with my fast fading memory

Remember him being very useful but then his form declining GW.
For whatever reason I think he`d been transferred to Henderson late in his career and do remember him being in the yard for the first Lambourn Open Day I went to ( 1987 I think)I can`t trump anyone on the greatest but would suggest Young Snugfit as well worth a mention in the category.
Apart from flat wins over 5 and 6 furlongs won a couple over hurdles and
several races over fences including one over the National fences.I`d managed to find a rare winner in He`s the Gaffer in the same race but
any satisfaction was very much tempered by the loss of Fields of Clover who had won very nicely on his previous appearance.
Condolences to all involvedI`ll certainly be interested in his Goodwood runners too.Has been in a
slump for a while though.Sorry everyone – I think I was wide of the mark with Belper ( he was one eyed in his later career I`m sure) but it was Rymer I`d been trying to think
of for Blagrave – thanks for the memory
Can`t offer a lot on this but think the one eyed Belper may have been one of theirs ( Jimmy Lindley never failed to mention he was one eyed)
On the summer jumping going front I noticed yesterday’s going at
Newton Abbot was G/F ( firm in places) from a position of being
heavy (waterlogged in places a week earlier). I know going conditions
can be hard to anticipate but this seens a bit careless to me.The RP reported conditions as VERY MUCH on the fast side of good
– sounded like a euphemism for firm to me.
The chase in which Ashby Jo was pulled up ( fatal injury) had a couple of
others lame or dismounted.I`ve missed some of the discussion but would firm be deemed
unraceable?Anyone remeber the Taunton going being descibed as ‘Hard’?
Sad news – another old favourite gone (veteran of ninety odd races).
Not much consolation but at least the old boy gave the impression of
enjoying it till he went.
Certainly a colourful career, he`d been with Hammond and Crook
before Reveley. Had come second in a Pierse Hurdle as well as
the Yorkshire Chase triumph.- AuthorPosts
