Good Grief!
Money Trix, the alleged Cheltenham Gold Cup hopeful, is actually going to visit a racecourse.
He’s found a fairly easy outing as well.
When this was a good handicap, was this the Newbury race that Maori Venture fell in, before he won the GN? It then declined into a not very good h’cap. As a graduation chase this year, it looks quite fun to watch.

I suppose we’ll all be looking at Mr Pointment’s attitude and bearing, after the enigmatic ending to the Becher Chase.
Very promising novice in Gone To Lunch.
I was looking at Trigger The Light a couple of days ago, and thought his form ought to pick up in the second part of the season.
Apologies to Sir Bathwick – don’t know who he is, I’ll look him up now.
December 28, 2008 at 21:06 #199882One of my favourite ever races, in the early eighties, when the the great but declining Night Nurse got up to beat Captain John on the run in.
Apologies for reminiscing on your thread Gerald….quite like Money Trix.December 28, 2008 at 21:17 #199886Wheres this at, Gerald?
I really rate Gone To Lunch and have bet on him for every race since his 2nd to The Tother One a month or so back.
December 28, 2008 at 21:22 #199887Oops just found it on the Newbury card.
I’ve no idea why Newbury wasnt showing up for me earlier. I though the only jumps meeting going tomorrow was Musselburgh

Don’t ask me – my thing is sprinters.

Apologies for reminiscing on your thread Gerald….quite like Money Trix. Not enough reminiscing. I must have watched that race, wouldn’t have anything else to do as a student in the early 80s.
December 28, 2008 at 21:29 #199892Sorry, Halfwaytoheaven, I thought you were asking me my opinion on the race, not where it was being run!

No worries, Gerald. Good to know youre more of a sprinter kind of fellow though, I’ll keep my eye out for your comments on the big sprint races next year

Just had a look at the early exchanges and am a bit suprised to see Mr Pointment available at 5.2 (Roughly 4/1). Despite how much I rate Gone To Lunch this price is a bit suprising…..
Current figures show the prices as….
13/8 Gone To Lunch, 5/2 Money Trix, 4/1 Mr Pointment, 15/2 Trigger The Light, 19/2 Sir Bathwick
The value has to be with Mr Pointment here. Gone To Lunch could very well hack up here if Mr McCoy gets the horse to reproduce his last run (coincidentally which was over course and distance) but on official figures Mr Pointment should be well in on weights and is by far more attractive.
I’d fancy Trigger The Light to place here too. I rate him over this distance and felt he was a bit unlucky to fall at Wincanton a few runs ago when seemingly running on well.
Sadly, I cant have Money Trix for this. I’d be worried about the fact he’s been out for almost a year now and will be under a new jockey for the first time. If he runs well…..well…..superb

Not a betting race for me unless Mr Pointment drifts out even more or Gone To Lunch goes close to a backable price
December 29, 2008 at 03:18 #200004I don’t mind handicapping chasers in public, because if I make a fool of myself I can always claim my specialty is sprinters.
However, if I was to do the same with sprinters in public . . .
I suppose, that now I am back into gambling, that I will inevitably start keeping my own ratings from the start of the Flat season, whether speed ratings, form ratings or both.
The problem before was that it takes up so much time. If you use speed ratings properly, then you only have one or two bets per month.
Because of rail movements, I don’t think I’ll bother with speed ratings from Chester.By the way, after Wheresben yesterday, my Betfair account shows a profit since I started! [edit: the ante-post bets on the Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup, Grand National, Guineas, Derby & Oaks haven’t come home to roost yet.]
[edit: by sprinters, I mean 6 furlongs. Anyone who tries to study 5 furlong sprint h’caps solely by the form-book will end up in the Carvillshill-run asylum in the cell next to mine, or in the Newgate debtors’ prison, presumably run by Fist of Fury.]

Do you have a silly ante-post bet on Money Trix as well? I’ve got £2 @ 750 for the GC. If I had a spare £1,000
I could lay him at 500 and have a free £500 to nothing bet on him.I’ve taken Nicky Richards at his word "I think my lad’s for the big time one day", and I’ve had a very big bet for me of £40, because I think the price is good.
Don’t worry about Condon, he’s been the stable jockey since May, but I didn’t realise myself until a couple of weeks ago.
December 29, 2008 at 03:34 #200021Haha sadly no antepost bet for me. I’d just be happy to see him get back to business really.
He’s up against some smart types tomorrow. I certainly wouldnt be writing Mr Pointment off as much as the exchanges seem to be doing thats for sure.
Best of luck for tomorrow with that bet though
December 29, 2008 at 03:40 #200025Really like Money Trix, but Mr Pointment should be able to muster a decent level of form for him to have to get past tomorrow. Saying that, last season when he won the beginners chase at newcastle he didnt really come out of second gear and probably had much more in him if called for IMO so hard to say what sort of level he’ll gbe able to run to tomorrow.
Last year before Money Trix made his debut he had a few entries, all of which were at newcastle, and they have always looked to place the horse for a win, so the fact that they are venturing to Newbury for a competetive looking race is probably a good sign, at the same time I would want 7/2 or better, if I am to play.

Fabulous race. I believe that it was Night Nurse’s last victory, too.
Compared to horses of that calibre, tomorrow’s renewal doesn’t really get the blood pumping….
December 29, 2008 at 04:06 #200032Unfortunately there isn’t going to be any rain. It looks like that would have inconvenienced Gone To Lunch, looking at what he’s mostly been running on.
If Money Trix loses, the aim is to get the money back on Merigo in the Last Fling at Haydock.
[edit: a bit naughty of me, because I haven’t studied the other horses in the race.]December 29, 2008 at 18:51 #200206Everything is going right for me at the moment backed Gone to Lunch but have to admit Money Trix was worrying me before he fell might have been a close call had he stood up.
Gone To Lunch is a tough bugger though and he’s been clipped in for the Sun Alliance, there will be worse each way shots, he jumps well, will battle and will stay longer than the mother in law.
December 29, 2008 at 20:25 #200242Has to be said Money trix wold have gone very close to winning that. He has bundles of speed and AP was working hard knowing the danger was coming.
Won’t be seing 3/1 again about MT in a race lke that any time soon,
December 29, 2008 at 20:27 #200243Given his history, it’s probably bigger than 3/1 that you will see MT on a racecourse again this season, after that crashing fall.
