Guess it’s a long time ago since we got 10-1 for Takeover Target. I think he’s still good enough to win the race. Would be a nice way to end his great carreer. Good luck everybody!

    Won’t pay for RP.
Didn’t use it much since it got this new disgusting layout anyway.
Before it was a good site.
Now I’m using use Sporting Life, ATR and the free bet fair form site.

In most countries you can get free race cards. Only in the US you have to pay for it. Hope the UK doesn’t follow them. Well, right now there are enough free alternatives.

It’s a strong and wide open field. So I was looking for a longshot and found EVIDENT PRIDE. He comes from a lower class but finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd in 12 of his 13 starts on all weather tracks. He also shows great Lingfield and distance records. Will make a late run and hopefully fly by them all.

    Good luck!

Just a quick message to say a big THANK YOU from the team at The Racing Forum to all members, old and new, who’ve helped make it a great year for the site. We really appreciate the way everyone conducts themselves on here and we’re looking forward to continuing to improve the forum as we move forward.

It’s been an interesting year for us, dominated by the major changes we’ve made to the site, both in terms of the graphical interface itself and also the technology which drives it all. Much of the credit for the smooth transition from old to new should go to Charles and Andrew at Thus Ltd, who have joined The Racing Forum to help ensure the forum continues to develop. They’ve been busy working away all year helping ensure that all the techie bits and pieces I don’t understand work and that the site’s advertisers keep coming back, allowing us all to continue having stupid, meaningless arguments about which horse might run faster than another (among other things). They’re also working on the next steps and are about a year ahead of me at the minute. Thanks for your help and hard work guys.

We’d also like to say a huge thank you to the members who help us with the day to day running and moderation of the site. In particular Bob Rolf, Matron, Grasshopper, Dave Jay, Jim JTS, Davidbrady, Johnny B, Happy Jack, Non Vintage and Adrian, all of whom have contributed greatly during the year. (Sorry if I’ve missed anyone).

Finally, of course, many thanks to everyone who posted, or indeed simply stopped by to have a read, during 2007.

So, as we hurtle headlong past Christmas and into 2008, it remains for us to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a great 2008. We sincerely hope to see each one of you back here at the end of next year when we’ll hopefully be looking back on another great year’s racing.

    Best wishes,

Cormack15 and The Racing Forum team.

Thank you and Merry Christmas to everyone here!

I know that the betting forecasts printed by the Racing Post are merely a prediction of the likely market, but it would be nice to think that they would bare some resemblance to the view bookmakers will take when pricing up the same race.

So who actually compiles the odds for the Racing Post – is it down to the person previewing the contest, or do they employ someone to form markets in the same way Ladbrokes or Hills do?

It’s not something I’ve ever really thought about, as I don’t form my own markets (or assign a desired price to a potential bet – I’m not a believer in the ‘value’ approach), but after looking at their forecast for the opener at Exeter tomorrow I thought it worth asking about.

Last time out, Shanxi Girl was 9/4F for a handicap at Wincanton, following a pleasing victory at Exeter. She unseated her rider in that race, which was won by Festival Flyer (at 14/1) who reopposes today. In the aforementioned race they carried 11-11 and 10-2 respectively, and are due to carry 11-5 and 11-4 today, yet are forecast to both go off at 10/1. Now with such a massive turnaround in the weights, in the favour of Shanxi Girl, how can their prices be so different from when they met previously?

As it happens I quite like the look of a different a horse, at a bigger price, but any ‘value’ seekers would surely be steeming into the Hobbs horse with ‘RPBET.COM’…?

I learned to do my own forecast for the horses I wanna play, it’s not so difficult.

    NV,

You hit the nail on the head. Alcohol is LEGAL, cocaine ISN’T. Do I need to say anything else? OK I will.

Drinking 8 cans of Grolsch in the comfort of your own home is not ILLEGAL. Alcohol, at a dangerous level, doesn’t stay in your system for longer than 24 hours, hence why you can’t drink n drive immediately, but you can drink, then drive 24 hours later once you have slept it off.

Cocaine, on the other hand, is reported to stay in your system for weeks, and therefore the abuser of this ILLEGAL drug is always in danger of not being focussed for many weeks after the abuse. If Mr Fallon is found guilty of taking drugs, as he has done previously, then riding a horse, a few days after his alledged abuse, is not something I would condone.

It certainly isn’t something I would call him ‘welcome’ and a ‘hero’ for!

Besides, you’re missing the point I think. Just because Fallon has had a hard time, does this mean he had to revert to drugs? This is the main question. I had a hard time, and I didn’t revert to drugs. What would yo have done given Fallon’s or my situation – drugs or drink?

    Mike

Well it’s nothing new that some jockeys take drugs. It always happened and it will happen in the future. But imagine they would ride drunk. That would be much more dangerous.

great night sporting entertainment ahead, first the fight and might as well wait for the racing, fancy benbaun to run a big one in the sprint

Agree about Benbaun, played him to win. My other bet is Ramonti in the Hong Kong Cup. He’s my lucky horse, I already cashed 3 times with him.
    Good luck everybody!

Welcome to the forum Tontonan. In most cases I don’t bet horses who run for the first time after the winter break. I think it’s better to watch them and to find out in which condition they are before.

I don’t doubt the quality of the Timeform products, but they are too expensive imo.

Tiznow (has won the BC Classic twice) because he got a shot of Wodka after every race (although I prefer Whisky).

My honest opinion is that there is not much difference among the top jockeys. One who makes a difference is Ryan Moore, who is the most talented rider in England at the moment imo. The other ones … well I like them when they win with the horse I bet and I dislike them when they lose with the horse I bet.

My pick is the 8yo veteran Gallic. He has won the G1 Sydney Cup over 2 miles in April. After a break and 2 weaker performances over too short distances he came back in form in time and has won the G2 Cathay Pacific Airways Cup on the 27th October. He has won at tomorrows distance, course and going and is around 20-1.
    Good luck!

Then why open his stud farm to other breeders then, nitro?

Don’t know but not because of money.

‘Godolphin is an example for a stable that doesn’t retire the horses too soon.’

This is because they feck up their 3yo careers so much that they have to spend their 4 and 5yo campaigns making them attractive to breeders.

And to be fair, how often these days do Godolphin actually race 3yos?

Other than handicappers like Scriptwriter, am I right in thinking their last 3yo who went through a proper campaign was Dubawi?

I’m not questioning his retirement as obviously he’s way out in front as Dubai Millennium’s best son and they wanted him at stud to ‘replace’ DM, but this surely throws out the theory that these days Godolphin don’t retire 3yos?

Was Shamardal’s injury one that he could have recovered from, or they just chose to retire him because many of his targets were no longer available to him and they didn’t want him to have a 4yo campaign?

I don’t think that Sheikh Al Maktoum with all his money has to make his horses attractive for any breeders.
