Piggott had an OBE and was stripped of it following his tax issues. There isn’t a chance in the world that it will be re-visited. Racing has honoured him as best it can – the "lesters" etc. – but that will have to be the height of it.

Nonetheless, fair point about Archer – how come he has kept his knighthood? It’s probably down to the labyrinthine rules of the honour system – thank god I live in a republic

I saw a horse in the entries last year which was the same as a book i read, King o the gypsies.. and it was well bred and charlton trains it but 50/1 for a horse thats never run before is terrible…

He’s related to former Derby favourite Gypsy King. He ran well enough in a 10f maiden today at Newmarket, staying on well late on into fourth.

It’s to do with coastal erosion, the decline of inshore fishing, kiss-me-quick hats and poor prize money. It would take ages to explain.

According to RTE teletext, Ladbrokes are 8/1 on Natagora at the moment. They are sticking their head so far above the parapet, I have to tell the conspiracy theorist in me to shut up.

No – I didn’t complete that box. As you say, it would have removed the doubt as to my intention. I usually only complete it if I use shorthand like ‘Trixie’ or similar on a slip.

Thanks, Mikky. I won’t be a tit about it so and will take my medicine if the video ref presses the ‘No Try’ button.

This is the first time I’ve made an error on a slip. I’m glad it wasn’t too expensive.

Paddy Power are NRNB. Best option if you’re worried about your selection getting in.

Edit – I see FoF has already mentioned NRNB – I should have read this less than extensive thread more carefully

Don’t know why he wouldn’t consider sending Kauto to Punchestown for the Heineken Gold Cup (3m).

Neptune Collonges won it last year – I suppose the plan might be to send him again.

Early starts certainly suit the lunchtime betting shop crowd. Well, at least the slightly more discerning patrons who prefer to steer clear of bags meetings, virtual racing etc.

I’ve been on a post-festival holiday so I didn’t see this until now. The cup shall take pride of place in my extensive trophy cabinet, elbowing aside the runners-up gong from the Rathmines Leisure Centre 1987 pool competition and my cherished winners trophy from 1989 Dublin VEC Quiz.

    Thanks all.

Denman to Kauto: Have you ever been to China White’s? A cinema? A museum? You know what a red rope means?

Denman: Top o’ the morning to you
Kauto: Je suis desolé. Je ne parle pas la gibberish irlandaise.

flying bolt may have hit someone on the head

I find this statement distasteful. He’s long dead and not here to defend himself.

I stopped after race two, surmising that I might need the ammunition for tomorrow and submitting to the tyranny of wage slavery (ie had to go back to work after lunch!).

That will help Mr. Cantillon repay his debt to AIB (I presume it’s him that appeared in the ads).

I’m glad I didn’t have a bet as I might have been tempted by Paddy Power’s offer today of refunding stakes on fallers – Dundridge Native had unseated in his last three races. I see he finished 7th at 9/2.

I backed the first two winners at huntingdon, recouping yesterday’s losses at Cheltenham. Too hell with quality racing, say I.

Nanny state? Political correctness? The decline of the great british nation?

Are we talking about Britain’s relationship with Europe, the challenges of diversity, the restriction of free speech, the difficult balancing act between individual choice and the public good?

Last time I checked, this was about the abandonment of a horse racing meeting cos’ it’s windy. Let me know if I’m wrong.
