…well it’s a new low even by Lounge standards. Am I the only woman on here who finds this thread somewhat offensive ? puerile even.
If I’d backed it e.w. I’d be very annoyed. He did nothing final furlong.
NWRA, your post was agreeable until the anti women rant in the 4th paragraph, at least that’s how it seemed to me. Obviously we cannot rely on you to share our emotional outpourings.
poor old Matt not too popular on here, except with me
:blowkiss: ÂÂÂ
We ought to wait for the French races at Longchamp tomorrow before forming a more concrete opinion, however how anyone can put a 3yo who hasn’t raced this season at the top of their list – heaven knows !
…yes I agree with Barry too, if you look at some of the other topics.
Yes I think he’s very handsome but then as a post menopausal woman a lot of men under 40 can have that impact.
He’s a terrific presenter well suited to his current role, and what a change to have someone on a racing channel with such a great sense of humour combined with a clean and well groomed image – a lot to be said for that in this age of scruff. ÂÂÂ
Christ – if I was a little younger, or a man even …whatever who knows…lol! I’d be delighted to go out with him, he seems generous and caring as well – unusual attributes today.
…and thanks to Matt for pulling up Primarolo [Bet365] for referring to a horse as ‘this thing’ – unacceptable in this day and age.
I like Matt Chapman a lot, I think he’s great and well worth his money on ATR for which he is well suited. ÂÂÂ
He’s vibrant, opinionated and humourous. He can also do excellent commentaries when the audio is down – quite an achievement. He’s also quick off the draw as I sent him an email a few days ago and he read it within about 5 seconds.
Quite handsome too, from a feminine point of view. Bit heavy on the make up, but handsome enough.
hi Dan,
congratulations on your wins, especially at 252/1. Tell us about it next time, before it runs  !
I’ve read about Sainte-Mere Eglise and the Normandy landings in WW2 – all very interesting.
yes I remember Seb Sanders and Confidential Lady, it was a very hard ride but I am pleased to hear there are strict whip rules. I did not know jockeys had to count the number of times they use the whip in the straight.
I used to follow Mrs Head-Maarek but she does not seem to have as many good horses as she used to a few years ago. It’s all about Monsieur Fabre and Soumillon now so it’s good to see Mr Rouget having some nice horses too.
Good luck – I hope you have many more winners.:)
Dave,
I’m really sorry to hear of your wife’s problems, I wish her well and hope you get yourselves back to normal pronto.
Maxilon,
yes you were ripped off but if everyone enjoyed the day then money well spent I always think. You just won’t be going there again will you ?
I went walking along the South Downs where the air is clear and there is currently no charge, if you know where to park:)
…the going was good [3.1]. You’re right of course about Prince Philip earlier, my apologies although it all looks the same to me…lol!
The way US Ranger quickened about a furlong out to go away from them I thought was breathtaking, and it looked a decent enough field and half a second faster than Magic America who I thought laboured her win, and just did enough for first time out.
Mr Rouget has 2 nice one’s with this and Peace Dream and wonder if he’ll go for the Longchamp double rather than Newmarket.
The French season is off to a flying start with several group and interesting maiden events already having taken place. We’ve had the Curragh and Leopardstown in Ireland with some decent fare, but what have we had in the UK ? next to nothing, it’s absolutely diabolical, what a start to the flat season here you’d hardly know we were racing.
hi Dan,
well thank you for telling us where you live, a lot of English have bought houses in Normandie I think. Do you enjoy racing at Deauville on a regular basis Dan, and do you work at a stable ?
I do not like harness racing, or trotting as it’s known. I do not see the attraction in it. The horses seem to get whipped a lot which puts me off. Is this true or my imagination? Are there regulations regarding use of the whip ? Perhaps if I saw more of it I might get to like it, obviously I have not seen very much. Trotting is not unknown here as the Queen’s husband I think participates, or used to. I know they have big races at Vincennes and I’ve seen the Prix d’Amerique once or twice on television a long time ago.
Can you tell us which horses you will be following this Spring with a view to Chantilly in June please, thank you.
David, yes I agree and those behind I don’t think were very good but an exciting prospect as with one or two others I’ve noted below.
Dan, some of us enjoy racing from all over the world and can enjoy the sport without gambling on it, but on most forums I think the interest is usually UK and Ireland and often from the betting angle, understandably. Apart from the major French races I doubt that many get involved financially here and it’s not on the television that often on a day to day basis. ÂÂÂ
From what little I see French racecourses do seem, as you suggest, to lack support and therefore have little atmosphere but I would like that personally as over here they are often too crowded and unruly, expensive and with quite dreadful catering unless you spend a fortune.
I hope you saw another nice Saddler’s Wells filly of K Abdulla’s called Concentric win at Longchamp on Thursday in a 2000m maiden. Wasn’t she impressive? One to watch on soft. Synopsis was another who impressed over 2400, so I shall keep my eye on those 2. ÂÂÂ
You’re very partisan aren’t you, the French. Nothing wrong in that. On a French bloggers site I often visit, there is a vote for the top racehorse of last year, 9 are listed including Deep Impact, Hurricane Run, Ouija Board, Invasor etc. and lo and behold, Pride has the most votes….lol ! well one of them was mine.
Where do you live in France if you don’t mind me asking ? I’ve only been to Paris.
…just to chip in, I think it was to do with him being interviewed one day on the t.v. whilst still a jockey and Dick Hern said from his wheelchair something like "don’t tell them too much" and he looked like he meant it. From then on we didn’t hear much from Willie.
He does make me laugh a little. I remember his first solo outside broadcast direct from Dubai when it opened and he referred to the tracks name as "Nad a Biba"….lol!!!
Well I hope you enjoy your holiday. We’re hoping to get to the new Great Leigh’s racecourse near Chelmsford [raceday buses to course from station] when it finally opens and combine it with some time in London. The most convenient Travel lodge near Liverpool St station is £95 with seemingly no concessions for booking in advance [for the autumn], whereas the one not far away at Kings Cross Royal Scot can be had for £26 – can’t beat that for a double room en suite.
I like the look of this Great Leigh’s course just judging it from their website, probably a bit too far for you Gilly:)
hi Doyley,
I’ve stayed at more Travel lodges than I’ve had hot dinners. If you book well in advance you can often get them for the prices quoted otherwise it’s often £50 or so and I find that some of those near larger towns and cities it’s very difficult to get at the cheaper prices at any time. Should you find yourself in Scotland the one near Stirling is just about the best I’ve been in so far, and the one opposite Fontwell is quite convenient.
Just a word of advice, never get a room on the ground floor. I know it’s easier to get all your luggage in etc. but you may not get a good nights sleep with a family group [much like yourselves…lol], clunking around in the room above. Most annoying ! and if it’s another couple then we often hear them humping.
So if you are on the first floor please think of the poor folks below trying to get some shuteye. ta..
I enjoy the 4 days but think that’s enough. It’s about right now for me with plenty of interest and a couple of quieter interludes to break things up, mostly on day 3.
My main gripe this year as a televiewer has been the highly intrusive advertising banners all around the course with the worst offender being Ryanair on the Thursday almost obliterating one fence in particular on the, inferior in my opinion, RUK picture coverage. C4 seemed to get the better angles I thought and managed to avoid the worst.
Just to add having heard both commentaries, I found Mike Cattermole’s Gold Cup coverage to be better than Simon Holt’s [unusually] and to give Mike credit for that as he comes in for a lot of stick, and Mark Johnston’s who I don’t normally like, did a tremendous job with the County hurdle.
