Yes Market Man, I do. On soft ground at York, unless the horse was proven there, I would lay anything that short!

Frankie was 200/1 on Betfair last time I checked!

A couple of tips I would give anyone are :

    1) Completely disregard comments from owners, trainers, jockeys.

    2) Completely ignore tipsters / so called experts.

    3) stay away from multiple bets.

    4) Never ever chase losses.

    5) Don’t bet until everything is right in whatever way you choose your bets.

Be your own man and do things your way, trust your own knowledge.
I don’t keep strict records as such I know most do but I keep a running total of how much I’m up / down.

My advice unless you’ve been into racing for at least ten years don’t even bother trying to make a profit because it takes a long, long time to learn.
Just to highlight how this opinions differ in this game I would say that I agree with nearly all of that except the first point. You can glean valuable information and draw inference from comments made by connections. Not so much the ones published on the RP website for all to see but the odd little snippet you might hear in a post or pre race interview. Keep a record of it and use it as part of your armoury. It took me nine years of being a mug before I learned.

Would also recommend a couple of excellent books; Against the Crowd by Alan Potts and Mordin on Time by Nick Mordin.

    Good luck!
Yes. He needs dropping in distance too.

Mesh, Bull Run was entered in the Ascot Gold Cup and the Hardwicke this year but didn’t run so would assume he’s still about, albeit minus his wedding tackle now. Agree with you that they do a lot for racing and also a lot for the punter as well. Doubt there’ll be a HRA investigation into one of theirs!

They have half a dozen or so in the 2yo Trophy at Redcar and also about a million in next years Derby (including the megabucks Tranquility Lake colt).

Was again impressed today with Librettist, especially considering the very soft ground. Not surprisingly was getting a little weary at the death but he travelled very well in the race against some very good milers. Personally think he’ll prove much better on genuinely good ground but hopefully he get written up as preferring soft ground and will be overpriced if racing on faster in future.

Doesn’t the 7/2 for his reappearance in a conditions race at Nottingham this year look massive now?!

Another for the boys in blue this week is Belenus at Salisbury on thursday. Hopefully he will get the cut in the ground he needs and should go well.

Would be stacks better over 5f on the dirt than 6f… Do they have any 5f races in America?

Quote from Simon Crisford on 22/3/06 "LEO hasn’t had such a good winter. He won’t be ready early. He’s never been going well since he’s been here but there is a long year ahead of us".

He was put in the St James Palace, The Eclipse and the King Edward VII at the first entry stages this year but nothing since.
Fantastic debate…really enjoyed reading it and no nasty comments either!

Personally I think Celtic Swing is the best 2yo i’ve ever seen (only been watching since 92) and arguably one of his best 3yo performances was in beating Bahri over an inadequate 7f. Shame we didn’t see more of him really and also that we don’t see much of his progeny (is he still alive? or abroad?).

While on the subject of Electrocutionist, was I seeing things or did he attempt to take a bite out of Heart’s Cry inside the final furlong? Didn’t tape the race so would like some reassurance i’m not going mad.

Quote: from Maurice on 5:00 pm on July 30, 2006[br]Electrocutionist is best on dirt

Not so sure I agree with that Maurice. He is 2 from 2 on dirt but I think it’s the track that is most important to him. He takes a while to hit top gear and I don’t think Ascot, with it’s shortish run-in, suits him very well. He had plenty of time (and distance) at Nad al Sheba and at York last year in the home straight to gather himself and duly won his race. Just my opinion of course!

Quote: from ToneLoc on 9:22 am on July 21, 2006[br]As for the King George, I would lay Electrocutionist all day as don’t think he’s a 12f Group 1 horse. He won an Italian Group 3 over the trip but didn’t look to have stayed at Woodbine over 12f in a Group 1.
For what it’s worth, I am utterly convinced that Electrocutionist is a 12f horse. Maybe it was the yielding ground at Woodbine, or the extensive travelling that undid him. Still, this is all about opinions and is what makes racing (and betfair!) so enjoyable!

    Good luck with the treble…
