Good win by Sea Of Class . So very pleasing to watch the lovely bred filly coming to snatch it off AOB in the dying strides with a perfectly timed run. It was very shrewd of William Haggas to instruct Jamie Doyle to settle Sea Of Class in the rear , keeping well detatched from the Balydoyle teams’ tactics .

Poor performance by Magic Wand – Ryan Moore not having the best of days at the Curragh .

Rab Havlin is the most obvious replacement for Dettori on Cracksman , having rode the colt to victory on its racecourse debut at Newmarket .

Not that it will matter much , as Crystal Ocean will take the world of beating at Ascot .

May I be so bold to blow my own trumpet for a change .

I refer our esteemed forum members to page 4 of this thread and the predictions of yours truly .

Brazil aside , I called England’s chances / progress spot on; teams they’d play , defeat , and ultimately the round where their World Cup dream would end . :bye:

Whoever said women tennis players can’t be trusted is spot on. Bet on one of their matches at your peril . No consistency whatsoever . I liken them to 5 furlong handicappers on the flat .

The majority of women players are not comfortable playing on grass anyway – most of them would get a nosebleed if they ventured anywhere close to the net .

The late , great Alex Bird once said that punters should not trust fillies because they were unpredictable and inconsistent – although for Habibti he would make an exception .

So it is with women tennis players . With a fit Serena Williams on your side , you can sometimes make an exception . She should be good enough to see off the rest .

Masar will be fit and fresh as a daisy . He holds all the aces and I think it will be pretty straightforward for the Derby winner . B-)

Before the tournament began , I backed Brazil to win the World Cup .

However , I also backed England to reach the semi-finals , on the assumption that Belgium would win the group and therefore , at some point , face Brazil in that half of the draw .

In my opinion England will beat Columbia , leaving the way clear to meet either Sweden or Switzerland in the quarter-finals . I take Sweden to win that encounter , before England duly eliminate them from the tournament .

My bet on England will have succeeded and then it’s in the lap of the Gods – but I think that’s as far as Gareth Southgate’s men will get .

I think England have a good chance oh going all the way… to the final at least .There is no outstanding team in the competition .

I still remember 1990 when the Germans put England out on penalties . I felt during that competition it was England’s for the taking . That England squad of players was better than their 1966 squad , which only contained 3 players of true class : Moore , Bobby Charlton and Jimmy Greaves ( a much better player than Hurst or Hunt ) , who sadly , for him , got injured in an earlier match .

I backed Harry Angel . I’m not sure he’d have won in any case . He got himself in a right old tizzy .

My feeling is that when it quickly became apparent that the horse had no chance of featuring in the finish , Adam Kirby should have pulled him up , instead of stoking him along and stupidly resorting to the whip .

Any ambivalence I had towards the man has evaporated quickly . I simply cannot be a*sed with the guy now . He is a circus act who is not in the least bit funny .

He loves the sound of his own voice and constantly interrupts and talks over others , whilst vying for camera time . His ego has run away with him .

Yesterday at Royal Ascot , for example , he approached Jessie Harrington who was in position to watch her runner in the forthcoming race . Chapman approached , lyingly proclaiming that Jessie summoned him for a chat . She clearly had not and the look she gave indicated that she was less than amused .

He is a chancer and a total pain in the backside .

I watched Attheraces a few weeks ago , prior to the Guineas , where Jamie Lynch of Timeform , singled out Without Parole as the potential winner of the first classic , with further improvement to come from the John Gosden trained colt .

Thankfully , I took a mental note there and then , and today it paid dividends .

Dettori, with the possible exception of Ryan Moore , rides Ascot better than any other jockey . I thought he gave Without Parole a super ride .

I saw no clear evidence of team tactics playing a part in Forever Together’s victory .

Nevertheless , it is naive to think that team tactics do not play a significant role in Coolmore’s mob handed approach in these group 1 races . I have long been an advocate of restricting the number of runners from any given ownership – especially where the classic and group 1 races are concerned.

As for it being Donnacha’s ” turn ” ; who knows , it might well have been . I remember reading an article on the Williams sisters a few years ago , where the author made reference to the fact that in the early years of the girls’ professional career , whereby if Venus had won a title , old man Williams would more than subtly suggest to the elder sister that it was Serena’s’s turn next .

Anyhow, I digress. Team tactics will continue to be a part of Coolmore’s M.O. so long as room for such shenanigans exist. A case in hand , which still rankles with me to this day was Tartan Bearer’s defeat in the 2008 Irish Derby at the hands of team O’Brien . I too was soundly rounded upon when suggesting nefarious play from the Coolmore Mafia – but I still maintain that opinion to this day .

Cracksman just doesn’t act as well at Epsom as he does elsewhere . The punter who supposedly had 100 grand on to win 30 must have sweated buckets watching that .

ITV were highlighting Mill Reef , the winner of the Coronation Cup in 1972 , who just managed to beat Dick Hern’s Homeric by a neck , having beaten the same horse easily in the previous year’s Derby .

As the much lamented Dancing Brave found to his cost , Epsom can prove to be a great leveller

Morston , winner of the 1973 Derby didn’t race until he was 3 , winning his debut at Lingfield . His next and final race was at Epsom .

Curlin , champion racehorse in the USA , began his racing career at 3 , as did this year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner , Justify .
