Yep, I’m another to get irritated by such things. Kauto Star is another one. The BBC call him Kato, Channel 4 Korto and in some other places he’s called Kowto. Please all decided on one pronuciation and stick to it.
No. I think Detroit City will quicken past from the last. However gutsy a horse is if they haven’t got the gears of another theres not a lot they can do.
The Irish horses are much of a muchness on any given day it wouldn’t surprise you which one of them beat the others.

the thing about detroit city is he can cruise at high speed and then really lengthen his stride and take lengths out of the field it seconds
Its all very good doing that in poor handicaps (Greatwood) and against 4 years olds (admitidly a decent looking bunch) but he has yet to do it or prove it against the best in a race that is a fair test.
Detroit City is a horse with plenty of stamina theoretically the pace of that race shouldn’t have suited him any more than it suited Hardy Eustace.
Getting 4lbs, getting first run were clearly a big help. It was a joke of a race that bares little or no comparison to what he is going to face at Cheltenham. They went a right gallop today in the ground, just a different nature of a race altogether from the Bula.
Getting first run made little difference in my opinion. Detroit City took lengths out of Hardy Eustace then idled. Four pounds is one bad jump I’m not one for taking too much notice of weight differences unless you’re talking in excess of half a stone. I really don’t believe a pound or two makes any appreciable difference.

I don’t see anything iffy about that race.
You dont see anything "iffy" about a race where they crawled for the first half mile? Fair enough…
Not really. Not every race is run at a true pace it doesn’t make the form worthless.

Which horse from the last years Triumph Hurdle has the best form
Afsoun winning the Champion Hurdle trial at Haydock beating 150, 137, 145 rated hurdlers mainly off levels or Detroit City beating Hardy Eustace by 1L in a iffy race at Cheltenam getting weight and beating 125, 127 rated horse giving weight in Greatwood?
Detroit City quickened right away from Hardy Eustace between the last two quite easily. Ok idled a little bit on the run in was probably infront too long but I don’t see anything iffy about that race. Detroit City has had to do his own donkey work this season he won’t in the Champion I can see him just sitting in behind the leading pack and doing them all for speed on the run in.
It’s looking all the better for Detroit City. He has too much speed for Hardy Eustace showed that last time out and we know he’s full of stamina from what he’s done on the flat.
Wouldn’t want to be on anything else to be honest.
Impressive Exotic Dancer, didn’t finish like a tired horse either. He’s improving with every run at the moment and it makes Kauto Star’s King George performance look all the better.
Our Vic for me wants three miles and a sharper track. I can’t for the life of me understand why connections didn’t send him for the King George it would’ve been the perfect race for him.
Neither Black Jack’s jockey nor his trainer made any mention of the horse having any injury (unless I’ve missed it somewhere) to me he just seemed to struggle to get home in that class, on that ground at that trip. He’s stayed the trip previously but Dayjur would’ve stayed two miles against a cart horse. It could be that Black Jack Ketcham may prove better over a lesser trip at the highest level.
It’ll be a hell of a training performance if David Pipe can get Well Chief back to a level good enough to win a Champion Chase.
Personally, I doubt it.
I’d be looking to oppose Teofilo especially over a mile.
He was a big two year old who people presume will fill into his frame as he gets older and I dare say there’ s a degree of truth in that but I think there’s a possibility that he may have had a mature edge on most two year olds last season.
Teofilo is a gallopper I can see him getting done for a turn of foot in the guineas, the softer the ground the bigger his chance for me.
The Derby? Teofilo is by Galileo out of a Danehill mare his full brother was a ten furlong winner at three. There’s a fair chance that Teofilo will get a mile and a half but he may prove best at ten furlongs especially taking into account the speed he showed as a two year old. Also his size would be a slight worry at Epsom I wouldn’t be certain of him handling the track that well.
I wouldn’t want to back him for either the Guineas or the Derby.
