why dont you consider form from the previous season. can give clues to if the horse goes in teh ground, likes a course, speed ratings etc etc.
detroit city has improved imo.
if you go only by this seasons form how can you think brave inca will have a chance, has won 2 slow races and then put in his place by hardy, who has been beaten by detroit city!
January 28, 2007 at 17:12 #36785so what was the excuse at aintree? i seem to remember he was fancied, had ear plugs in, didnt sweat up and was beaten fair and square. also if he boiled over at the festival last year why wont he this year!
January 28, 2007 at 17:15 #36786As far as I can tell Detroit City has done nothing but improve for every visit to the racecourse. The form rating may not back that up, but this is a young horse thriving on racing and who has done everything asked of him.
Sure, you can pick holes in his Greatwood form, sure he had the run of the race last time, BUT, he has shown a good attitude and gallops and gallops. Whereas Afsoun and the immensely over-rated Straw Bear have had the chance to return optimum figures, Detroit City hasn’t.
Hopefully when the opportunity arises, he will show himself to be out of the very top drawer.
January 28, 2007 at 17:15 #36787Because it’s irrelevant to the CH, the only comparison is it’s run at the same track, a totally different race with totally different opposition
Anyway, were just going round in circles, people have their opinion, i have mine and come March we will find out who was right and who was wrong

January 28, 2007 at 17:19 #36788Much as i love HE, the idea that DC was an unworthy victor over him is laughable
Surely to anyones eyes DC is clearly a horse (like HE) that needs good pace ? Hes a true galloper
And on the form book…hes a worthy favourite now
January 28, 2007 at 17:21 #36789Well Clive all i can say is thanks to people reading the Cheltenham race and the formbook that way, i ended up backing a horses that should have been 2nd fav today instead of double figures
January 28, 2007 at 17:23 #36790Empty – fancy an even score that DC finishes ahead of HE in March ;)
January 28, 2007 at 17:28 #36791I shall entertain you m8
January 28, 2007 at 17:43 #36792I’ve been laughed at in other quarters for suggesting that Detroit City is the only horse in the Champion Hurdle who is capable of running of 170. I still believe that to be the case.

I wouldb’t laugh at yer, but imo, DC has to improve at least 10lb to get in the frame, more to win the CH
I’ve not seen anything to show me he has that improvement in him
January 28, 2007 at 18:21 #36794apparently she is favouring taking macs joy straight to the festival as a fresh horse
imo macs joy should have gone chasing this season
January 28, 2007 at 18:29 #36795Seriously impressed with Mac’s Joy’s run today which must bring him on a few pounds. I would think that another run beforehand would do no harm.
January 28, 2007 at 18:39 #36796bearing in mind both BI and HE are being trained for cheltenham MJ will have to improve 7lb from that run to get past them imo
January 28, 2007 at 19:09 #36797The Irish horses are much of a muchness on any given day it wouldn’t surprise you which one of them beat the others.
January 28, 2007 at 19:16 #36798Personally i think you can’t really split the three irish horses, they are within 1-2lb of each other and their relative positions come march will be decided solely upon by the rides they get. If mccoy or ruby are available for B.I. all well and good but if not connections must surely be concerned.
Conor o’dwyer is obviously aware of how H.E. must be ridden, though neglected to in the Bula.
And for purely financial reasons i’m hoping Barry Geraghty trys to take it up a bit sooner on Macs Joy, like he did last year at punchestown.
Come march its probably worth just backing the biggest price of the 3.
January 28, 2007 at 20:03 #36799Macs Joy is overrated IMO due to his consistency of running behind Brave Inca, behind being the operative word here. It’s 2 years since he won a race of any great significance (AIG Hdl in Jan-05). He was regarded as the one to be on last year as a result of fairly OK form given that stable had an awful winter but still wasn’t good enough on the day. He won’t win a Champion Hurdle.
Conor O’Dwyer was quite apologetic after the race regarding the Bula which he effectively said to ignore. He stated that DC was a good horse too who wasn’t suited by the slow race and also idled in front but you could tell from his mannerisms that he is pretty confident that DC won’t finish in front of HE again.
It’s BI or HE for me this year (nothing ground-breaking there!), with slight preference for HE given that connections will ensure he is ridden from the front it doesn’t suit BI having to pass HE (or vice versa for that matter) with DC or MJ third.
January 28, 2007 at 20:20 #36800Detroit City has done nothing wrong, but he’s far too short at the mo. At the moment it’s HE for Ch, but if — as we all expect — DC drifts on the day to a sensible price, he will be great bet then.
