I wouldn’t doubt Iktitaf’s resolution, he slogged through the mud to win the Irish Cesarewitch this year. I think he will win tomorrow.
January 27, 2007 at 18:05 #36734Brave Inca will probably win because he’s as good as anything in the race, has the advantage of race fitness over one of his biggest rivals and will race closest to a steady pace on hock deep ground.
January 27, 2007 at 18:09 #36735The ground won’t be any worse than soft and quite possibly a bit better, there has been no rain here all week.
January 27, 2007 at 18:24 #36736ive heard the same colinf that the ground is closer to good than it is heavy.
and as for a slow pace, sorry ive forgotten how jazz messenger, asian maze and hardy eustace usually race?!?
January 27, 2007 at 21:26 #36737Bit surprised Iktitaf is as big as 5/1 for this. I’m not so sure his response to pressure was quite so disappointing last time as plenty would like you to believe and if all 8 stand their ground, he looks like each way thieving material to me.
January 27, 2007 at 21:34 #36738Where’s Paul Carberry?
January 28, 2007 at 12:03 #36739Hardy Eustace would e my pick to turn over the lazy, but tough as teak one if getting a proper ride
If ground has dried out a little Asian Maze looks a decent e/w price too
January 28, 2007 at 12:29 #36740How are most of you saying that BI will be suited by deep ground more than some of his rivals. That is rubbish. He is 10times the horse on good ground than he is on heavy.
People are saying he is slow???? Ha! Yes, he looks slow the way you see McCoy (usually) driving him along with a mile still to race, but he would be doing the same if he was running against selling platers IMO. He is just very lazy in what he does.
Mac’s Joy beat Brave Inca at Punchestown last season because BI had a long season and was finished with Colm Murphy was annoyed with himself for running him really.
The time of his champion hurdle win was far from slow, 2 seconds quicker than standard in fact. and that is when the jockeys were calling the ground dead on the first day of the festival.
Iktitaf is another Harchibald for me, if Timmy can produce him right on the line, i think he will win because i think he will go through the ground better than most. But it is going to be very hard for Timmy, even though he is the right man for the job.
Mac’s Joy will travel like shergar for most and then find very little.
Brave Inca will be under pressure for most with Timmy probably coming up with a double hand full, it all depends how much nerve he has.
January 28, 2007 at 12:36 #36741there is likely to be more pace on than usual in these irish events and i think this will suit brave inca and iktitaf. e/w on iktitaf seems a good bet dj

As the fitter horse, with the best form in the race, no sign that he isn’t as good as ever, and plenty of pace likely, Brave Inca looks a less chancier bet than any each way to me.
Imo, Hardy Eustace will struggle to get 3rd place; his trainer is still contemplating the World Hurdle which should tell you something.

BI is the one they all have to beat and his price represents his chance imo
HE, if giving his all, his price does not represent his chance imo
Asian Maze can be forgiven her run LTO imo, don’t forget she gave her all against Iktitaf, who had the benefit of a previous run on the flat and possibly not given enough time to recover from those exertions
January 28, 2007 at 14:57 #36744

January 28, 2007 at 14:59 #36745Im livid because i let the market put me off….
But lovely win by a lovely horse. I think hes as good as ever this year
Would have to fancy him to beat BI at Cheltenham now
Impressed with macs Joys effort too but Iktitaff could either be hyped or is going backwards which lets down the form of BI’s last run
January 28, 2007 at 15:01 #36746Very nice Empty, I don’t want to appear an aftertimer but I backed Brave Inca for the Champion Hurdle and Hardy ustace today baed on price. However I now wonder, how can Brave Inca reverse the form? It looked a decisive victory to me.
January 28, 2007 at 15:08 #36747HE has not had any hard races this year, hacked up at Ascot, given an iffy one behind DC
Fresh horse imo
Another very disappointing run from Asian Maze, which is a bit of a puzzle tbh
January 28, 2007 at 15:17 #36748what a race!
cant see BI reversing the form in march, there was nothing about the race that was a dissadvantage to BI. HE was wrong all of last season and still ran a cracker in the champion. it would appear HE has the measure of the irish horses but can he beat DC?
i thought macs joy ran an encouraging race but cant see him being better than placed at cheltenham. iktitaf and asian maze were very disapointing, neither travelling imo

I wouldn’t back Detroit City if someone gave me the money
The first 3 in todays race will be fighting out the finish come March
