Haydock’s two-day fixture scheduled for later this week has been cancelled after the track failed Tuesday’s 1pm inspection on the suitability of the inner course for racing.

May 26, 2026 at 19:59 #1767402Some of the races transferred to Carlisle, for Saturday, with ITV prog being shown from Carlisle.
May 26, 2026 at 21:31 #1767407Presumably they would be looking to do a full GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Survey on the course to check for further voids which will take time and cost a few bob, so no great surprise that this weekend’s meeting is off. They would be rather trusting that there isn’t a risk the inner track has the same problem.

May 27, 2026 at 09:52 #1767431Haydock seems to get a lot of fixtures. The inevitable tinkering in aspiring to achieve desired going on a frequent basis can’t be helping.
I was interested to read of past shallow mining in the area. Probably not as great a risk of subsidence as in my local area but even so…
May 27, 2026 at 20:58 #1767453Saturday card has been moved to Carlisle, an 8 race card with all the major races being run, Friday card moved to Wolverhampton.
Carlisle’s a very decent flat track and good to see them staging a Group 3.
June 10, 2026 at 17:00 #1768575Next four fixtures through to 3rd July now being moved as well as further investigation required – goes to show just how lucky Friendly Soul was that she didn’t put her hoof fully into that hole.
June 10, 2026 at 18:03 #1768577I used to go to Haydock a lot when I was younger. I had many happy afternoons and evenings there and some of my best punting memories.
It is so sad to see what has happened to the place. The jumps track has been ruined. Now the Flat track is under a cloud.
I hope they get the issue resolved soon. But it grates to see a track which used to be so good reduced to a place which wants to pack in the punters to spend fortunes in the bar or turn up before the last race just to watch a concert.
I hope they haven’t neglected spending money on the track.
