At this stage of their careers, Idle Talk’s form is a good 10 lb superior to what Cailian Ailann has achieved. Im with TDK at the prices. Idle Talk jumps well and should give his running. Definite case for why all of the top 3 may not.

It’s also interesting to note that the last five Welsh National runner-ups were beaten at odds of 5-1, 2-5, 4-5, 7-2, and 3-1 on their next starts. Wish I’d known that befoe backing Mon Mome!
Hope you got out of that one Mounty.

Guesser
January 27, 2007 at 14:57 #36693i am delighted and p***** off in equal measure. I was right:cool: but I did an e/w double with Inglis Drever so only get the place part. Did it well I thought and certainly didn’t look like a non-stayer to me.
January 27, 2007 at 15:20 #36694Take back what I said about Exotic Dancer being "just a handicapper"!!! Looks unbelievably progressive and seems to love the track. Cannot see Our Vic get the trip at Cheltenham after that, Ryanair Chase would be ideal.
January 27, 2007 at 15:44 #36695Didn’t get to see the race but from preliminary report on Sporting Life, Cailin Alainn was travelling well when she fell. Is that a fair assessment or was she well held at that stage.
DJ – I would disagree that Idle Talk is 10lbs better than Cailin Alainn on Hvy ground.
Interesting to see that she has barely moved in the BF betting for RSA Nov Ch while Denman appears to have come in a little. Surely she will have gained from the experience and possibly will treat the fences with more respect next time out. Bear in mind I haven’t seen the fall so don’t know if it was novicey or what.
January 27, 2007 at 17:17 #36696our vic wont win any race at the festival and should put him away until april for the race he won last year.
the novice mare was travelling well at the time, but looked flat out imo but would have been 2nd at worst imo.
i think exotic dancer is booked for 2nd in the gold cup as he wasnt stopping and will win if kauto tips up!
January 27, 2007 at 17:55 #36697How on earth was it travelling well at the time but also looking flat out?
As far as I’m aware, the only rider that can make his horses appear like that is Tony Culhane.
January 27, 2007 at 17:56 #36698yeah sounds odd! what i meant was it was holding its possition but imo wouldnt have quickened much
January 27, 2007 at 18:57 #36699So it was staying on without troubling the leader then? I couldn’t of seen her winning myself, I think Exotic Dancer had plenty in hand. I just hope the horse gets the credit it deserves now.
January 27, 2007 at 19:15 #36700Full credit for Exotic Dancer for taking advantage of Halcon Generlardais’ lack of pace, Our Vic’s lack of cojones and stamina, and everything else’s inability to jump cleanly.
Seriously though, he’s done more than enough this season now to see him have excellent claims of getting a place and will be better placed than many to take advantage of any mishaps Kauto Star may suffer from.
To be fair to the Irish mare she I thought she still had every chance when she came down, getting in too close to the third last and landing too steeply to get her landing gear out. Given the mishaps afterwards, I think she would have finished a comfortable second.
Whether I’d be comparing her to Dawn Run yet though, as Lee Mottershead is in his RP ‘analysis’ is another matter entirely.
January 27, 2007 at 20:58 #36701Great training performance from Jonjo – only he could get Exotic Dancer beat by Turpin Green in a 3 horse race ;)

Imo it wasn’t stamina that did for Our Vic; he actually accelerated and took a length out of his pursuers going into the 2nd last, which he couldn’t have done had stamina been a problem.
He capitulated immediately on hitting that fence which suggests, as DJ pointed out, that he lacks the balls for a fight. Pity really, as a victory here would have opened up the Gold Cup betting a little more.
Had to be impressed by the winner, though, (Nice one, FSL;) ), versatile, improving, and worse horses have placed in the Gold Cup.
Just my opinion, but if he, Kauto Star, and War of Attrition all turn up, it could be the best GC for quite a long time.
Irish Stamp
January 28, 2007 at 07:18 #36703Impressive Exotic Dancer, didn’t finish like a tired horse either. He’s improving with every run at the moment and it makes Kauto Star’s King George performance look all the better.
Our Vic for me wants three miles and a sharper track. I can’t for the life of me understand why connections didn’t send him for the King George it would’ve been the perfect race for him.
January 28, 2007 at 10:40 #36704The only reason I can think of why Pipe and Johnson didn’t run him in the King George is because he jumped so markedly right in the Reynoldstown at Ascot on his second start over fences. He’s been kept to left-handed tracks since. Th irony is, prior to the Ascot race, he’d raced exclusively on right-handed tracks.
January 28, 2007 at 11:16 #36705Our vic didn’t look to be stopping to me until he made that awful mistake.
Perhaps his heart for the battle went as soon as he hit that fence…
January 28, 2007 at 17:45 #36706Hmm, that was an expensive old race for me!!!!!
I’m not so sure that Our Vic doesn’t have physical problems – it’s unlike Team Pipe to keep one wrapped in cotton wool! He often stops dead too & posts too many disappointing performances for me.
Exotic Dancer looks to be improving all the time too – he’s a lovely horse. I didn’t think he’d stay but he did it well.
