Ginge why do you pompously feel the need to keep "educating us"?

We KNOW all about percentages and the value approach. Once again just to clarify – WE KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its just not for me and it ISN’T the only way of making money over time from backing racehorses. If you think it is you are wrong it isn’t.

It isn’t Ginge’s approach that irritates so much its the way he keeps telling us the concept of value and percentages like we’re all stupid.

    Stop it at once!!

After, but its pretty fair to say that his stud value was pretty much secured from winning the guineas. The way yards are losing their potential stars to godolphin at present (to be ruined), must surely now be figured into things, and Dermot Weld is a very clever bloke and regarded as one of the most well educated in the game.

I have heard today of a big yard who havent supplemented their derby number one yet, and probably wont send it for a trial because they are worried godolphin will come in and take it. I’m not sure just how much weight there is to that and I will have to wait and see if the horse in question is supplemented at a later date.

It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest in fact I’d be very suprised if certain trainers / owners haven’t "held horses back" previously because of Godolphin and their financial theft of promising horses.

I expect to get called all the names under the sun once more for speaking the truth and not bottom licking Sheikh Mo and his cronies but Godolphin are ruining the sport as much as they are doing it good.

They must stop this activity if they want any respect from me. You want success Godolphin – achieve it on your own merits.

John is obviously a betting anaylist, but in terms of historcal form he does know his stuff (when he has it all in front of him). Dunno about you guys but Emma Spencer is very easy on the eye, at least Jamie has something else to focus on riding when he packs the game in.

Might I refer you here[/url:1x6iqyum]. A few mentions for Mrs Spencer (and one for her mother  ) in there!

I remember when Tanya first started she was very nervy, give the guy a break.

Judge them in another 18 months.

Indeed. Richard Lee rates his son Tom as “the funniest person he knows”, so just you all wait. A couple of years and he’ll be indulging in more witty repartee than the Great British public can handle and McCririck will be forgotten about.

My god that is somewhat disturbing, poor Richard must’ve had an extremely grim life. Must be a hoot a minute at their Christmas knees up.

"Going strictly down the value route could leave you backing five horses and Zarkava still bolting up, what is the use of that?"

So what you are saying Flash, is that if you don’t want to back Zarkava, you shouldn’t have a bet in the race? Or that you shouldn’t take on any favourite as it might bolt up?

Not really. If you fancy something to beat Zarkava back it. Its when you don’t have a fancy for a horse and you back it just because its a certain price that I don’t find particularly appealing as if you are going strictly on price you could end up backing half the field as prices drift etc.

At the end of the day each does as they prefer.

Flash, I think the value argument is that one race result doesn’t matter, and that in the long run if you keep backing these horses that are longer-priced than they should be you will inevitably make a profit.

    Colin

I understand that perfectly mate. The thing is though you’re backing blind. You’re not actually backing a horse you are backing a percentage chance.

I just wonder how much money the "value" bettors lay out in a week as they must back an incredible amount of horses.

Its just not my thing I’m afraid. If it suits Ginge thats fine, its just not for me.

The times of yesterdays races don’t suggest firm ground they suggest Good to firm.

If a trainer is worried about a horse coming down the hill 1) why enter it in the first place? 2) Why send it to Epsom?

I can understand not wanting to injure a horse of course, but there is such a thing as cottonwooling.

Incidently have any horses come away from Lingfield yesterday injured because of jarring in the ground?

There is a difference though surely between not backing a horse because it is too short and backing a horse at long odds just because its over the price you think it should be.

If you / anyone thinks Zarkava is too short then simply don’t back her.

Going strictly down the value route could leave you backing five horses and Zarkava still bolting up, what is the use of that?

Why on earth were there so many non runners? This is the flat do they not expect Good – Firm ground?

Curtain Call now goes straight for the Derby. What if its Good to Firm at Epsom? Are we going to have artificial watering AGAIN to try and enable Good ground? A fast ground horse will have no chance of winning a Group one soon if they continue in this vein.

I hope at Epsom they make sure there is no jar and that is it. Other than that let nature take its course.

To say "plus his form knowledge is second to none" is just about the most stupid thing I have read on here.

Marko Pierre White got it spot on when he said everything McCririck does (and says) is for effect.

What sort of a name is that? If you have a surname White you don’t have Christian names Marco Pierre, it sounds ridiculous lol.

How about Jean Marie Smith? Or Gurdip Jones? :D.

What about Marco Antonio Batty? :D :D

Big Mac is about the only reason for watching C4. Their coverage is getting worse and worse. Maybe we’ve been spoiled by RUK and ATR I dunno but something needs doing to C4 racing and getting rid of Big Mac isn’t the answer. Did anyone see the coverage without him yesterday? Not to be rude but BORING!! Nick Luck / Tom Lee in the betting ring come on FFS both have about as much personality as a dead goldfish. Imagine going for a night out with Tom Lee? I think I’d rather watch Titanic and I consider that the most boring film I’ve ever watched (well actually fell asleep after about 20mins, literally).

Matt Chapman? Please, the guy is like an extremely poor man’s McCririck, though in fairness I’ll concede of late he has been less of an annoying twerp than he has been in the past.

Advise to C4 – Get rid of Lee, Grinner Graham, Plunkett (I can’t stand that
thing, Thompson, Emma Spencer (though she is a babe), Cattermole and get in some people that a) know their stuff and b) don’t send you to sleep.

And bring back Big Mac, keep him till he wants to go.

If its true about this “womens rights” thing its just another example of how pathetic this country is getting. Humour bypasses galore and politically correct nonsense.

Mac told Tanya she had a plantpot on her head the other day – Shock, gasp, horror!! HANG HIM!! Old Tanz though has a sense of humour, bless her and a maturity and common sense that is so badly lacking nowadays.

On a completely different subject just look at those two buffoons in the photo above Boris and everyone’s friend Dave. It really is laughable isn’t it? Would you trust either of them with collecting the correct change from a cashier at the local supermarket let alone running a country? Best part is they are a better option than Gordon Broon who is possibly, just possibly more boring than Tom Lee and more clueless than Ken Livingstone. Well, err, yeah questionable I know. The future isn’t very bright all in all is it?

I’m with Fist on this one. I fail to see Ginge’s logic. If you pretty much know a horse won’t win why back it simply because its a bigger price than you think it should be? What a waste of money.

I can understand if you think something should be 5/4 and its 5/2 something like that but a 25/1 chance when it should be 16’s / 20’s? Stuff its mathematical percentage.

No offence Ginge but I really don’t like this method of betting. I dread to think how many bests you have per week, must be a millionaire just to cover the staking.

I’m not Ted Durcan’s biggest fan either to be honest, tactically I think he’s very poor. If he messes up on Twice Over at York, I’ll hunt him down noose in hand.

Didn’t affect the result in this instance as DJ says, toughest horse won.

    Why the smilies?

Where are the huge jump meetings that the Brits / Irish aim their horses? Are there any French meetings on a par with the Cheltenham festival or Aintree or the King George?

    Good God yes.

The April, May, June and November meetings at Auteuil which between them incorporate the Prix du Président de la République (the French Grand National), the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, the Grande Course de Haies and the Prix La Haye Jousselin may all be talked about in the same terms as the British meetings listed.

The likes of Pau and Enghien also offer Graded and Listed jumps fare.

That fewer British and Irish runners take part in them is more of an indictment of our handlers’ lack of imagination than it is of the quality of racing and prizemoney on offer.

Further, there are more courses in France hosting jumps racing than there are in Britain, even if the net total of races over the sticks doesn’t quite equal ours.

In short, it doesn’t help in any argument being made here to regard French jumps racing as a minor and comparatively irrelevant or parochial discipline.

    I trust this helps.

    gc

Those races still aren’t on the scale of the top British events though are they? Our Grand National is the "biggest race in the world" who outside of France is really bothered about their equivalent?

Now I really am off.
