Most impressive winner I have seen this season – just miffed I didn’t back him. Not sure but I would have thought more Likely to go Irish rather than Epsom Derby?
May 11, 2008 at 15:41 #162775Im with you on that Stilvi, categorically destroyed them there. How good is dermot welds yard looking this year.
Famous Name,
Chinese White
Casual ConquestThree superstars in the making I think, all look to be certainly group1 standard. The question is. why wont he contest british classics with them when he picks up big races the world over with lesser sorts?
May 11, 2008 at 16:18 #162780I’ve often wondered the same thing, Bulwark. He always looks to have plenty of talent at his disposal yet seems totally averse to contesting the classics in this country.
And they say the Irish vs English argument is purely media based…
May 11, 2008 at 21:12 #162847Perhaps weld is just trying to keep them fit and well and waiting for sheihk mohammed to come in with a monster offer on them….
May 11, 2008 at 21:56 #162852Famous Name is owned by the Arabs. Moyglare Stud hardly need money as opposed to winning the Derby (Mr.Heffner is 90 I believe). Chinese White is owned by Mrs.Lady O’Reilly herself a millionaire(at least) and her husband a billionaire. So whatever excuse for selling it hardly justifies ducking. Both Bolger and Weld would cock up licking an ice cream cone.
May 11, 2008 at 22:02 #162854Refuse to bend was owned by Moyglare Stud also, and look where he went. Id be pretty confident that Khallid Abdulla woulnt sell Famous Name but the other two Im not so sure of.
May 11, 2008 at 23:48 #162864Was he (Refuse to Bend)sold after he failed to win the Derby or before it?
May 12, 2008 at 00:05 #162865After, but its pretty fair to say that his stud value was pretty much secured from winning the guineas. The way yards are losing their potential stars to godolphin at present (to be ruined), must surely now be figured into things, and Dermot Weld is a very clever bloke and regarded as one of the most well educated in the game.
I have heard today of a big yard who havent supplemented their derby number one yet, and probably wont send it for a trial because they are worried godolphin will come in and take it. I’m not sure just how much weight there is to that and I will have to wait and see if the horse in question is supplemented at a later date.

It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest in fact I’d be very suprised if certain trainers / owners haven’t "held horses back" previously because of Godolphin and their financial theft of promising horses.
I expect to get called all the names under the sun once more for speaking the truth and not bottom licking Sheikh Mo and his cronies but Godolphin are ruining the sport as much as they are doing it good.
They must stop this activity if they want any respect from me. You want success Godolphin – achieve it on your own merits.

"After, but its pretty fair to say that his stud value was pretty much secured from winning the guineas".
I take it then that you favor the point made by Jim Bolger that winning the Derby does not make a difference to a horse’s status?May 12, 2008 at 03:18 #162870Famous Name could not have been more visually exciting on his seasonal reappearance when easily accounting for Moiqen. He looks like one of those giant Khalid Abdullah professionals such as Rainbow Quest or Dancing Brave.
Oops – too far ahead of myself!
May 12, 2008 at 03:26 #162871Reading Dermot Weld’s comments after the race – that would be one helluva boisterous "up yours" to the Vodafone Derby planners with two key Irish contenders bypassing the Epsom test.
May 12, 2008 at 03:58 #162872surely you mean ducking not bypassing.
May 12, 2008 at 09:00 #162889Each to their own.
May 12, 2008 at 09:29 #162896How much does a precautionary entry into the Derby cost?
AOB has something like 26 still standing doesnt he?
Whether Weld has antipathy to Epsom or not, option shave to be kept open surely and it seems like he seriously underestimated this horse, which is not a great reflection on him…although he would hardly be the first
May 12, 2008 at 09:58 #162908Watched the race for the first time – make Washington Irving look like a drone! Unbelievable performance. I just hope the 3YO+ premier races are treated with these exciting 3YOs.
May 12, 2008 at 10:38 #162917Stoute needs to suppliment his horse as well…..bad trainer as well I suppose.

O’brien gets slated in some quarters for entries lots in races just in case something like this (a big improver) occurs.,… some trainers just can’t win!
