A poor ride that made no difference at all to the result.
May 8, 2008 at 13:39 #162313I’m not Ted Durcan’s biggest fan either to be honest, tactically I think he’s very poor. If he messes up on Twice Over at York, I’ll hunt him down noose in hand.
Didn’t affect the result in this instance as DJ says, toughest horse won.
May 8, 2008 at 13:42 #162314You actually beat me to it, MP.
I normally like to give jockeys the benefit of the doubt – but come on, Durcan’s ride left a lot to be desired in my opinion. So, I agree with you.
… and no, before anyone asks, I did not back the horse.

May 8, 2008 at 13:42 #162315A recurring theme certainly does seem to be developing…
May 8, 2008 at 13:45 #162316Firstly, Stotsfold is a Group winner.
Secondly, I’d agree with David Johnsons comment.

That Ted Durcan is a rubbish jockey?!?
May 8, 2008 at 14:22 #162321I would agree that Durcan’s efforts didn’t cost Multidimensional the race, but there have been far worse rides already this afternoon – notably Richard Hughes at Goodwood, who managed to pull a horse to the rail and have his run blocked in a four-runner race (I had the winner, so no real complaints), and Ryan Moore who’s just had an absolute ‘mare aboard Adversity.
May 8, 2008 at 14:26 #162323Ted Durcan has always been what I would call a competent jockey, hes never been an amzing jockey like fallon, but most jockeys arent amazing stand out performers, murtagh and Munro IMO are very good on their day and Murtagh appears to be shining at present and deserves some credit.
Ted Durcan however has no doubt earned his place in cecils eyes as the stable number one, but there seems to be a weight of expectation on durcan from punters and the cecil horses that I think is perhaps a bit unrealistic, and anytime one of his gets beaten it seems to be durcan who bears the brunt.
Multidimensional has never really lived up to expectation or reputation as a horse IMO, isnt the most reliable, and wasnt exactly strong in the market today, he was never going to win that race today and the way I see it Durcan was damned if he did and Damned if he didnt.
IMO Righard Hughes took enough stick on Khallid Abdulla/ cecil horses, and its only through the fact that he has been replaced by a smaller profile jock that that jockey is taking so much stick every time one gets beaten regardless of whether the horse was going to win or not.
I actually pity the bloke.
May 8, 2008 at 14:26 #162324What was Ryan Moore supposed to do from stall 12?
May 8, 2008 at 14:38 #162328It’s a confusing day at Chester, pace wise, as races have been contested by both front-runners and those coming from behind. There aren’t many better judgers of pace than Philip Robinson, though I suspect Royalist made his mind up for him.
Adversity was poorly drawn in stall 12, but Moore has anchored him miles off the pace, taken him 2-3 horses wide on the opening turn despite nothing being on his inside and managed to run him up the arse of everything on the rail before deciding to react. He was always unlikely to win from there, but he could have done a lot better than he did.
Incidentally, did anyone see the performance of Dingaan in the 3.00 at Goodwood? After only two furlongs he was fully 10-12l off the pace and seemingly going nowhere, only to run on late (including having to be snatched up a furlong or so out) to finish relatively close.
May 8, 2008 at 14:43 #162330Ryan Moore who’s just had an absolute ‘mare aboard Adversity.
I have to say I was ready to pick up on this before I scrolled down to say David’s comment. Moore had absolutely no chance from where he was, the only way he could get in the race was by dropping right out and swooping wide and late. If I were doing an appraisal on Ryan Moore’s afternoon, I’d be far more inclined to highlight his great ride on Doctor Fremantle, settling him in A1 position depsite missing the break and getting him a dream run on the rail.
May 8, 2008 at 14:45 #162331Cant be 100% but wasnt the winner Huzzah also ridden prominently in that race (Inow it was Huzzah and Royalist that came off the turn together with huzzah going the stronger of the pair), and wasnt Royalist ridden prominently last time at the same distance on a worse surface. I think the horse just emptied, he was running with his head hanging to the side most of the way there like he was pulling.
May 8, 2008 at 14:52 #162334It’s a confusing day at Chester, pace wise, as races have been contested by both front-runners and those coming from behind.
Why should that be confusing?
May 8, 2008 at 14:57 #162335Doesn’t matter, Prufrock, I’m clearly wrong.
May 8, 2008 at 16:20 #162349If you look through the Trainer Quotes for Multidimensional there are several excuses about him ‘not getting the cover he needs’, ‘not getting the pace he likes’ and him needing soft ground!
So I agree with David Johnson’s comment too.

Richard Hills on Wasan was drawn 11 finished 3rd, John Egan on Frevent prince was drawn 9, finished 2nd, I’m sorry but I think if one of the Hills brothers or Richard Hughes had been on Adversity they would have been slaughtered, don’t get me wrong Moore’s ride on Doctor Fremantle was class, but there does seem to be a bit of we must not criticize Moore and that he can do no wrong
May 8, 2008 at 17:25 #162353A very good race for the Hills.
