I’ll give him 24 hours.
May 11, 2026 at 22:47 #1766559And who is going to gain from all this? Labour will be like rats in a sack now. Just like the last government.

Posted at 22:36 on 11th May.
How large a bet would you like to make on it?
At 22:36 on 12th May, he’ll still be the prime minister.
By the way, I’m not endorsing his premiership (for those who failed comprehension at school).
May 11, 2026 at 23:21 #1766563I can’t see any great benefit in him standing down at the moment. He’s not done very well as PM but hasn’t disgraced himself on the international stage ( leaving Mandelson aside). A lot of discontent at home but I don’t see a replacement changing that in a hurry.
As for election losses, the Labour shower in the Senedd have brought in wildly unpopular aims and impositions and can consider themselves lucky to have lasted there as long as they did. Plaid Cymru backed most of what was put through and are very lucky to have escaped similar blame. Elected only as a counter to Reform who themselves have had some success as an antidote to some of the nonsense the progressives backed.
May 12, 2026 at 00:59 #1766567A local MP who praised Starmer in parliament a couple of weeks ago and whose city has just been given millions by the government to develop the place has now called for Starmer to go.Thankfully I seem to have got this wrong and all of my local MPs are backing the PM. Can only put it down to the fact that I’ve been losing sleep over all this….
May 12, 2026 at 01:25 #1766568Probably been bought by the pro-Israel lobby.
May 12, 2026 at 02:49 #1766569He’s a Sikh. Won his seat at the last election.
May 12, 2026 at 05:16 #1766570There’s no doubt the number of letters will be achieved , it looks like me Raynor is holding back wanting Burnham at a later date however with the cabinet meeting today it’s the perfect chance for Streeting , it’s days now , likely very few , alas his press conference was more of the same yesterday , no tie and his clappers in the back ground was not enough
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
May 12, 2026 at 07:01 #1766572He may survive today but with senior figures in the Cabinet reported as telling him to go, it is a case of when and not if.
He has only survived this long because Rayner and Burnham have not been able to challenge, while Streeting seems reluctant to strike and is presumably mindful of the adage “He who wields the dagger doesn’t wear the crown”.
May 12, 2026 at 07:45 #1766579It is all mildly diverting theatre but it will make no difference. Whoever the Establishment selects to take over will continue the long term project of the managed decline of the country, which has been ongoing for decades.
There was a perfect visual metaphor for it yesterday.
May 12, 2026 at 08:29 #1766583It’s the State Opening of a new Parliament tomorrow with the King’s Speech outlining what the government’s plans will be.
If Starmer were to resign today wouldn’t this render the speech if not null and void then largely pointless?
I’ve no idea what the rules and regs are if a PM resigns on the eve of a State Opening and I rather doubt it’s happened before.
But given the likely turmoil immediate resignation would cause I think it more likely Starmer will continue as PM for a while, maybe announcing today a date for departure in the near future.
Perhaps the King will just have a sheet of A5 vellum in his hand with the no more than the phrase ‘fk knows’ on it, writ large in big bold beautiful Times New Roman.
May 12, 2026 at 11:21 #1766587The King’s speech will be critical. If the Labour Party’s MP’s don’t like it, Starmer will be gone in days. Alternatively, if they do, they will all rally around him. We live in interesting times.
May 12, 2026 at 11:30 #1766589I think Starmer and the King work very well together in the way that Keir works well and seems to have the respect of other world leaders ( even handling Trump pretty well imo). Maybe the King will smooth things over in the Labour party in the way that he dealt with the orange one across the pond.
May 12, 2026 at 11:45 #1766591British PMs dont do v well when tied up in International affairs in their 1st term.
Peeps expect domestic issues to come first, second and third.May 12, 2026 at 12:36 #1766594“Maybe the King will smooth things over in the Labour party”.
It would be entirely inappropriate for the King to get involved.

Our domestic issues would be worse if we’d followed the USA into their illegal war like the Trump bootlickers on the right wanted us to. It’s one thing Starmer did correctly.
