Supreme Novices looks competitive, as it usually is. Unlike some of the other races (Ryanair, Champ Hurdle) I think its competitive as most of the runners are unexposed. Its usually the first race in which many of the best novices clash from the north, the south and ireland.

I only use both Racingpost and attheraces sites for there video replay functions as I like to see how I have lost my money while I have been at work!

And as a comparison, I much prefer the attheraces video playback. Its free, all races stored on 1 page and you can fast forward and rewind the action. Plus displays a mini racecard with odds on the right hand side as opposed to just the riders silks!

I dont really use either site other than this. Prefer Sportinglife.com for racecards and news.

Its the cheltenham festival…no horse in any race is a banker! Its the day of the season for most horses so improvement is always likely from some and others are over the top. Having said that Master Minded is as close as you get. Then again, everything is relative to the odds in question fro a betting point of view. Will Master Minded win? Yes? Will I back him at 2-5 or whatever he is now…not a chance! He is probably 1-3 to get round in one piece.

Couple of bad rides by Turner and Ahern. However, thats what happens when the horses are tricky rides!

Anyone who swears and is abusive should be banned.

As for his opinions, it’s the "I can’t make a profit so the game must be bent" syndrome.

    He had no idea.

    Mark

He’s probably already decided football, golf, snooker, tennis, darts are bent too as he couldn’t make money on those either, lol!

It was ridiculous but I was delighted to see Matsunosuke emerge from the fog miles clear! Mind you, who’s to say he jumped in on the home turn as i couldn’t see a thing!

Blatently putting the horse’s (and jockey) welfare at risk would have been quite an obvious one….but heck if the owner wants to do such a thing why not!

Aiden, Why is running a nag, a real outsider, in any race a risk to welfare of other horses? Its a slow horse not an axe murderer!!!

Lets be clear here, I am not sayng I would do such a ridiculous thing if I was an owner/trainer. But, if an owner wants to run an unraced novice in a Gold Cup then why not? If anyone can give me one good reason why they shouldn’t then I am all ears. (And falling and interrupting other horses is not a reason as that can happen in any race).

Colonel, why do you worry what the spotlight tipsters say in the racing post in bookies?

I have never understood why people take tips from other people. If a random in a bookies or well renowned tipster off tv or paper tells me a horse is gonna win I will ignore them if I fancy another. If I fancy one and I am told it cant win by someone I will still back it.

Point is I would rather find my own winners and be accountable for my own losers! Its my money, its my selection.

My old man used to ask me to pick 2 to back when I was a kid.

Rhyme and Reason was my first bet…good winner, lol! (actually maybe my interest would have been so diff had he not found a leg at bechers, lol).

    Then Seagram, Rough Quest.

Not many winners but remember some of my placed efforts more. Encore En Feu (or whatever it was), Whats Up Boys, Royal Auclair. Actually I reckon I am up in the race not down!

Graded races are non handicaps and therefore, there should be no limit on ANY horse talking part. Owners are entitled to run there horses where they want.

Would love to see Inglis Drever turn up fit and well for the world hurdle. Denis O’Regan pulling him out as soon as he felt him go at newbury may have helped.

And imagine the scenes if he were to win a 4th crown? He is only 10 years old, hasn’t been overraced in his career and was still showing enough ability at Newbury.

And, if during the World Hurdle O’Regan even had the slightest inkling the old warrior was struggling, he could be pulled up (Istabraq) and I dont think for a second anyone would begrudge the warrior a well deserved round of applause and thank G Wylie and H Johson for having a go. Lets face it. If you are gonna get one more run out of him and he still has the desire, let him take the chance of making history. Id bet nothing on the race yet cheer him on like my mortgage depended on it!

The BBC have made there position clear…they want to show racing as much as I want genital warts!

But Channel 4 have been there all along. Every saturday in recent years, even on days when the big races are on the bbc (Grand National, Derby). Without terrestrial tv coverage the game will be in big trouble.

Lets hope that common sense prevails!

Cant see the betfair terminals catching on.

If people are that desperate to get on in running chances are they’ll use there phones.

All for technology advancement, but only if its for the majority not the minority.

As always seems to be the case on this site, plenty of good ideas and thoughts. Having only ever been to 3 courses in my life (Ayr/Perth/Musselburgh) I cant comment on some of the initiatives that already exist.

Max said "At Southwell on Sunday, there were six hundred racegoers tops (and seventeen books, which was unusual), yet during the United Nations/ Rock Anthem duel up the straight, there was still a right buzz, a big bounce, only, on a much smaller scale."

If 600 is an accurate estimate then surely there is something not right there.

However, not to be too negative, January is probably not the ideal month financially and weather wise for going racing!

Its quite hard to keep to the point sometimes marble…can be harder to get a point across by text not words, lol!

I too rarely go racing as in the main I grew up in Aberdeen…85 miles to the nearest course at Perth! By the time I had paid a train fair I’d have had no gambling money, lol.

And your right, gambling is a touchy subject. Rightly or wrongly gambling and horse racing go hand in hand, but i can have racing without gambling…its still a buzz! Gambling just makes the nundane more interesting for me.
