On his day he was a seriously good horse. I reckon he is one of the very best I have seen on heavy ground.
I suppose he was unlucky to come up against a resurgent Sprinter Sacre and then he bumped into Altior as well.
I hope he has a long and happy retirement. He has certainly earned it.
Just seen Jeremy Hunt, Chair of the Health Select Committee, say that sporting events may have to be cancelled. Why would a senior politician say that unless it was seriously being considered by the government?
I have gone from being a bit worried to quite concerned.
I really do think that could happen if this slightly hysterical climate continues.
From a selfish point of view it makes no difference to me. I never go to the Festival because I struggle with large, noisy crowds – but if I had booked to go I would be getting a bit nervous now.
I expect plenty of hotels, pubs and restaurants in the Cheltenham area are getting a bit worried as well.
I am getting concerned about it because the media seems to be getting in a frenzy about it despite nothing serious happening here yet. On Question Time last night, one of the panelists kept calling it a “pandemic” although it has not been declared as such.
On RTV yesterday, Ruby Walsh suggested the Festival might go ahead behind closed doors if large gatherings are prohibited.
If I was Hughes, I would give Cheltenham a miss and try to get as many rides as I could that week at Sedgefield, Huntingdon, Hexham and Fakenham. There must be plenty of easy races to win there and it is winners that matter.
I have never had the winner of the Coral Cup! The best I have managed is third with Activial behind Aux Ptit Soins in 2015. At least I was on each way.
Yet I have had 4 of the last 9 winners of the Pertemps Final and had the runner up in 3 of the of the other 5 renewals! I have no idea why one race seems to suit my way of thinking but in the other I am clueless.
Agree with the above. In a week when welfare has been the big talking point in racing, I really do not see how it was in this horse’s interests to run in a race where he was so far out of his depth.
Yes, I think it was the Blaklion race that finally made up my mind. The sight of a good horse (the antepost favourite for the GN) crawling over the last fence was not good. I really do not see how anyone could think that was a good look for racing.
I would not buy that type of horse. I am not a fan of marathon chases at the best ot times and those sort of chases on heavy ground give the anti-racing animal rights brigade more ammunition than they could ever dream about.
It might not be popular to say so but I am glad it is off. Long distance chases on heavy ground are not a very appealing spectacle. Exhausted horses almost walking over the line is not good publicity for racing.
Very sad. Condolences to his connections.
Sorry to learn this news. She looked like a smart performer with a lot of potential. Sorry for her connections.
World of Sport sometimes used to show greyhound racing when the scheduled horse racing was abandoned. And I think it always showed the Golden Jacket from Crayford.
It seems incredible now that the BBC used to show the Greyhound Derby final live.
Very happy with the weight for Kimberlite Candy. Hope the ground does not go against him too much.
Death Duty with 10-5 might be interesting if he could recover some sparkle.
If Le Richebourg was fit and had done well this season, he would be running here and Defi would be in the Ryanair. Connections cannot seriously think they are going to beat Altior or even Chacun on last season’s form.
I think his weight is entirely fair. O’Leary is just being awkward for the sake of it to suggest running him in the Bowl on the Thursday. I am sure the Aintree crowd would make their voices heard about that!
Just read that Henderson is thinking of running Might Bite in this race!
