Ginger posted “moan” 64 times, just in case we hadn’t got the message the first time.
Clive thought it was a good idea as well, when he wasn’t posting about how people who go to Wetherspoons are ghastly.
He might as well. He knows Starmer’s time in Downing Street is coming to its end. He has probably been promised a better job by Burnham anyway.
“Kelly said his mount had made a gurgling noise”.
Isn’t it incredible how many of Byrnes’s horses gurgle?
If the horse did, why didn’t he pull up?
How much longer is this rancid outfit going to be tolerated?
I used to go to Haydock a lot when I was younger. I had many happy afternoons and evenings there and some of my best punting memories.
It is so sad to see what has happened to the place. The jumps track has been ruined. Now the Flat track is under a cloud.
I hope they get the issue resolved soon. But it grates to see a track which used to be so good reduced to a place which wants to pack in the punters to spend fortunes in the bar or turn up before the last race just to watch a concert.
I hope they haven’t neglected spending money on the track.
It was on the Flat but One Cool Poet won three times at the Galway Festival in 2019.
I believe Stokes and Co were boozing in the White Horse in Parsons Green before heading for the nightclub. At least they chose a place that serves decent beer. Although the clientele can be on the irritating side. The place isn’t nicknamed The Sloaney Pony for nothing..
“Or Cahervillahow being disqualified in the 1991 Whitbread.”
I agree, although (after timing 35 years after the event) I didn’t mind at the time because I backed Docklands Express.
That is the sum of it. As captain, he has to set an example and it is not unreasonable to hold him to higher standards.
If he was an 18 year old lad, his misdemeanor might be forgivable. But he is a 35 year old married man and father of two. He ought to be showing a bit more responsibility and maturity.
I was thinking about the situation last night. The only stewarding decision I can recall that was comparably bad is the disqualification of Royal Gait in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in the late 1980s.
Thanks AP. I remember Orient. One of those tough sprint handicappers which seemed to run every other week.
I recall the Saturday Oaks card having a Claiming race.
I am sure we mentioned it several times in the post-mortem on last year’s meeting but Epsom exists for three races: Derby, Oaks and Coronation Cup. The rest of the Derby meeting is forgettable and the other meetings at the venue even more so.
I always enjoyed going to Epsom on Derby Day and the course has been quite lucky for me over the years. But it exists for two days. If it was on more suitable terrain, it would probably have been sold off for housing years ago, like Hurst Park.
Epsom can’t even claim to be much of a training centre now.

When there are accusations of a drinking culture, it isn’t really a very good idea for the captain of the team to say “I won’t be really happy until I get to share a beer with the boys” and then be discovered in a nightclub after the midnight curfew.
People dress up for Epsom as well. I assume the formal dress code still applies for the Queens Stand on Derby Day.
Royal Ascot has taken over because Ascot is a better track, the standard of racing is far higher and it can offer more variety. Unlike Epsom, with its maximum distance of 12 furlongs.
Epsom also isn’t really a place where you would want to run top class 2 year olds.
If memory serves, when Epsom was a four day meeting, the feature race on the Friday was the Northern Dancer Handicap. That day dragged a bit.
And Sturgeon is such a proud Scot that she is moving to live in England as well.
You can play the man but not the ball as much as you like. But “Wings” has been consistently right on this issue. If only the rest of the media had been so diligent.
“Are those figures correct”.
They were in “The Guardian”, so they must be.
