Cannot see beyond Fakir at the moment. I know he loses the allowance but I am not sure that will stop him. His jumping is electric.
The headgear will need to have a dramatic effect. I just wonder if last season took too much out of her. It takes a big physical effort to power away from her fields like she did. I much prefer to see horses win cosily if they can. They last longer.
I accept a partial apology is due because Buveur D’Air picked up an injury which clearly compromised his chance after it was sustained. However, I still maintain Geraghty rode a tactically poor race. Read Henderson’s comments afterwards. He said the winner got away from us and we had to chase him down. It is fair to ask why did an experienced jockey like Geraghty riding a dual CH winner and 2/13 chance let an outsider get away from him? The poor jump at the second last was due to the pressure he was already under. I am NOT blaming Geraghty for the injury. That was very bad luck and I hope the horse is going to be OK. However, no one can convince me that was a good ride – and I am not talking through my wallet either!
They have to aim Honeysuckle for this now. Doubt BVD will turn up and cannot see him giving away the weight to either Honeysuckle or Benie Des Dieux even if he did.
She was impressive but did it take much winning? Bacardys is good but not top class, Penhill probably needed it and needs further and Apples Jade is a shadow of the mare she was this time last year.
Having said that, if Honeysuckle was mine she would be trained for the Champion. It looks a weak year so why not have a go? She will get the allowance and I do not see any of the horses at the top of the market giving her weight and a beating.
Such a shame, it was shaping up into a great race. Difficult to say who would have won but I reckon Fakir would have shaded it. His jumping was slightly slicker than Samcro and I reckon he might have pinched a length lead at the last and held on. Hope Samcro jumps round safely next time so we find out just how good he is.
Bookmakers love horses that have excuses. I could not possibly back the horse for Cheltenham, even allowing for the cut.
Not sure it was as falsely run a race as suggested. The winner set a reasonable gallop. The others gave him too much leeway. The favourite was not travelling that well when he blundered two out and got the cut.
Still think it was a poor tactical ride from Geraghty.
My two – OK Corral and Cabaret Queen – both ran shockers. At least Epatante got me out level.
Pleased for Emma Lavelle and her team, although I would have a quiet word with the young lad to only start celebrating after the line in future!
Do not see how anyone can take any encouragement from a horse getting turned over at 2/13. He should have won by half the track.
Although I agree it was a good ride on the winner. When no one wants to make the running it is often a good idea to kick on. Maybe it is being wise after the event but it was obvious the favourite was going to have a tough task pegging him back when they turned for home.
Wonder if McManus and Henderson might throw Epatante at the race now? Young, improving and she will get the mares allowance. Worth a go in a weak looking race that might not take much winning.
That was a shocker. Sheer complacency. Even if he had won it would have been bad ride.
I am not an odds on punter but the horse got backed from 1/4 to 2/13 in the minutes before the off. Plenty of people must have got their fingers burned and are entitled to feel very aggrieved.
Reckon McManus will give Mark Walsh the job soon. He is far better than Geraghty now.
I will be backing OK Corral and Cabaret Queen if they both run. I suppose they are obvious selections but sometimes they are the best. I would also be interested in Mister Malarky if he is back to his best but I thought he ran very poorly at Ascot last time.
Cannot have Yorkhill at all. He looks gone at the game.
With Cheltenham in mind, will Cyrname act left handed? He has not before but he is a better horse now. Having said that, all his best performances have been at Ascot. Not sure he should be favourite for the KG on a different track and stepping up in distance.
I still think Altior will end up in the Champion Chase.
That was sweet revenge for Capeland! Good to see he was certainly none the worse for last time.
I doubt Altior would have won over 2 miles today. That finishing kick just was not there. Difficult to see how they can go for the King George on the back of that – but if they do it will be a rare chance to back him at odds against.
Sad to hear that he has gone but he had a good, long life and it sounds like he had an enjoyable time after his racing career was over.
If we are talking about winning from impossible looking positions, what about Davy Russell’s ride on Larquebuse at Fairyhouse on Tuesday? He was so far behind he was not in the TV picture until a few strides before the post when he managed to dead heat for first place.
