Envoi Allen will not go to the CH.
Buveur is, whilst still having ability, on the wane but not his fault as he’s getting on a bit.
November 30, 2019 at 14:35 #1476218Pretty obvious to me the jockey lost that not the horse
Cant give any horse a 10 length head start turning for home after getting an easy lead
Especially on a horse like BVD who has one burst of speed then not much after and especially on his seasonal reappearance
Corals are 12/1 which is a great price imo
That was a farce of a race and wouldnt read anything into it
November 30, 2019 at 14:41 #1476219I agree FF. Poor ride. But BD has had a lot of CH attempts and one would think something younger will come along to take the title.
November 30, 2019 at 14:42 #1476220FF they’ve played with his back yet his jumping still isn’t anywhere near as good as it was , geraghty was at fault but the horse still should have been able to reel the winner in , he had pounds in hand
November 30, 2019 at 14:51 #1476223Wonder if McManus and Henderson might throw Epatante at the race now? Young, improving and she will get the mares allowance. Worth a go in a weak looking race that might not take much winning.
November 30, 2019 at 14:54 #1476225I’d say Henderson has a more likely winner in fusil ruffles
November 30, 2019 at 14:55 #1476226He did have loads in hand on ratings and so did silver streak yet he got knowhere near either
To me the jockey has stolen that from the front
And with none of the younger horses looking much cop either 12/1 is value
November 30, 2019 at 14:59 #1476227To each his own , I wouldn’t have him at 120-1 , he’s simply not the horse he was , there’s still a back issue , time stops for no one
November 30, 2019 at 15:14 #1476231Do not see how anyone can take any encouragement from a horse getting turned over at 2/13. He should have won by half the track.
Although I agree it was a good ride on the winner. When no one wants to make the running it is often a good idea to kick on. Maybe it is being wise after the event but it was obvious the favourite was going to have a tough task pegging him back when they turned for home.
November 30, 2019 at 15:58 #1476242Buveur D’Air suffered a cut. Connections believe it happened at the 2nd last. His action did change noticeably after that flight. I’ve never backed the horse, but he was very game under the circumstances today, battling on despite feeling something amiss.

Don’t think anyone is taking encouragement
But there are clear excuses in what was very obviously a falsely run race, the winner wouldn’t normally get near silver streak let alone buveur dair but that is just the way the face unfolded
Just saying I’m not giving up on him and with none of the younger horses impressing yet there are worse 12-1 shots out there
Wont be backing him though until we here more about the cut
November 30, 2019 at 17:38 #1476249A lot of jumpers get cuts , it goes with the territory , it’s not just today’s run , he’s now been beaten a number of times over the he last 18 months , I’d much rather follow a potential younger improving horse then 1 in the downgrade , as good as he,s been I believe this to be the case
November 30, 2019 at 17:56 #1476252Think Saldier is the right favourite the so far. Form with Espoir Dallen and beat the best of the Irish on his first run. Will be interesting to see if Couer Sublime goes for the RyanAir Hurdle at Xmas. He looks the other obvious contender
November 30, 2019 at 18:16 #1476253Bookmakers love horses that have excuses. I could not possibly back the horse for Cheltenham, even allowing for the cut.
Not sure it was as falsely run a race as suggested. The winner set a reasonable gallop. The others gave him too much leeway. The favourite was not travelling that well when he blundered two out and got the cut.
Still think it was a poor tactical ride from Geraghty.
November 30, 2019 at 18:58 #1476255Further update… BD had a piece of wood lodged into his hoof. He was found lame after the race. Sounds a bit more serious than a small cut. And I know I wouldn’t fancy running with a bit of wood hanging out the palm of my foot haha. Hope the horse is ok.
For me, the fact the injury seems a valid excuse plus the jockeys getting the tactics wrong, I can’t write buveur dair off just yet. For me I think I want to see one more run from him, hopefully in the Christmas hurdle, before I decide whether he’s no chance in this.
I don’t care about people saying he’s underperformed a couple times in the last 18 months so today’s result didn’t matter. Well he’s also ran very well in the last 18 months too. Punchestown and fighting fifth last year would both be good enough to win this years renewal.
I’m not saying I think he wins this, I’m just saying I want to give him the benefit of the doubt on this run before I judge him
November 30, 2019 at 20:56 #1476264Looking at the picture on the racing post app it was quite a large piece of wood too
November 30, 2019 at 21:56 #1476269Elliot will be putting Samcro back in this if the contenders keep fluffing their lines lol
