I can’t believe ground concerns alone would prevent DoM from running. Coolmore love to win this race and are almost obliged to support it/Leopardstown by running their best horse. Giant’s Causeway was substituted late on a few years back to take Montjeu’s place.
Very unsettled weather forecast for the week and a real possibility of soft ground.
The Field is published on Saturdays.
The Irish trainers love to win the Irish Champion Stakes and as he missed out on the Curragh I have a feeling NA will wait for Leopardstown and then the Arc.
It was a really poor maiden by Naas standards. The second was beaten nearly as far in a Galway maiden last week.
I don’t think the track will suit Lush Lashes. She has a splayed action (to my amateur eye) and it didn’t look like she enjoyed running downhill at either Newmarket or Epsom.
KoW is a real hard-puller so I think KoR may make his own running. The trip is probably at the outer stamina limits of the other two but 7/2 Lord Admiral is a big price.
I think Youmzain may have been flattered last time out. Getaway has proved a major disappointment and Soldier of Fortune had a new jockey and may be better going right-handed. When you see horse that has been beaten may times at that level running all over his rivals two furlongs out it raises doubts about the race. Macarthur to follow DoM home.
I’d be inclined to think with them having Majestic Concorde for the Hurdle he might go for the valuable flat handicap on Tuesday night in which he was just chinned again last year (off 92) or a ‘winners of one’ hurdle but he will be interesting wherever he runs. His hurdling was really slick the day he won at Clonmel.
Yes ……… apologies.
O’Brien said in on-track post race interview that she might just have been coming to the end of her stamina over the Curragh 1m4f and that she may go for the Nassau next and possibly then York.
Very disappointed with Katiyra – she was the paddock pick to my eyes and looked like she might win turning for home but just flattened out like most of Oxx’s have been doing all year.
There was an animated (by their standards) conversation between Kinane and Pat Downes the Aga Khan’s racing manager in the parade ring before the next.
There was also a rumour doing the rounds today that Kinane was going to announce immediate retirement if Katiyra and Migmatite (whom he bred) won.I don’t know about him being ungenuine but I thought they might try blinkers for this race with US Ranger – Stravinsky and Mozart wore them in winning in as far as I can remember.
I think 8’s is a very fair price about US Ranger. His only chance of winning one of these top sprints is by staying in touch racing within himself and finishing off strongly and with the combination of a easy ground and a stiff finish tomorrows race should afford him his best opportunity. It will only be his third proper sprint as well and may well be the one that has been targeted all along.
Darjina not a certain runner apparently as her intended ferry could not sail today due to the poor weather – Heaven Sent for me.
Grant is a journeyman lightweight jockey who struggled for a few years after losing his claim but has enjoyed better fortune in the last couple of years.
Quoted in today’s Irish Field Flynn says ‘She is a fine mare and will come on a lot for her run in a Group 3 at Cork a few weeks ago. She has plenty of weight but she has earned her rating and I’m very hopeful of a big run from her’. Is is likely the race will have been the plan for her for a while as it’s a 100k h’cap in addition to being a raceday on which her owner would like to have runners. She does handle cut and while her last h’cap win was off 81 she should be competitive off 100 in what isn’t an overly strong race given the prizemoney.I think Sail is overpriced at 14’s. Never really though she would handle Epsom and being by Sadler’s Wells the ease in the ground shouldn’t inconvenience her. I’d imagine Ice Queen will set a strong pace and this may fing out FB over the trip.
Cashmans price it 4/6 New Approach, 4/1 Tartan Bearer, 7/1 Casual Conquest &16/1+ individually the Ballydoyle horses.
I firmly believe that horses only win sequences of Group/Grade 1 races when they have a top class jockey and that makes New Approach vulnerable – Manning never looked in control of the situation at anytime.- AuthorPosts
