It’s just daytime tv designed to appeal to the afternoon viewing population with a horserace thrown in every 30 mins or so.
It was interesting during the post-race interview that Stoute mentioned his no-show in the Voltigeur but stopped short of offering an explanation for it. Harbinger also seemed to flash his tail when he got that backhander. Hopefully he might turn up at long odds-on soemwhere before the Arc.
Da Re Mi out – bruised foot.
Heavy rain forecast Saturday night into Sunday.
A lovely story … remember him winning a handicap at Ballinrobe five or six years ago and having a few bob on him at 33’s when he won the Flat v Jump jockeys race at Sandown under Kinane.
Only one pacemaker plus uncertain runner in At First Sight from Ballydoyle outside the main hopes, may suggest that it won’t be the burn-up it has tended to become in recent years ann so not place such emphasis on stamina.
Jan Vermeer doesn’t appear to have had a clear run at things so far this year so an an attritional race may not serve him as well as it did Fame and Glory last year when he was probably at his season’s peak.Sending people with little or no English into shops with an alarm going off on a wristwatch and a set of instructions in an envelope was foolhardy.
Barney must have had a chuckle when he picked-up the rag to read his own letter this morning.Appears to have based his riding style on Kinane and may not be far off the great man in terms of achievement in times to come.
The O’Brien second and third fillies look over-priced. Both look likely to stay and like to go forward in their races but with Akdarena and Bikini Babe in the line-up its unlikely they will have to lead.
Remember When looks unlikely to say.Alandi was sold to race in Hong Kong where Mr Medici, who was in training with Prendergast a couple of seasons back, won a Group 1 at the weekend beating no less than Viva Pataca.
Poor enough stuff at Navan on Saturday although Carrigalawn may develop into a stakes horse.
The O’Brien fillies Dance on Bye and Ice Empress are dodgepots.
Expensive failures at Leopardstown in the shape of Duff (who didn’t seem to want to know) and Age of Aquarius (why no pacemaker?). Another good performance by Profound Beauty who really likes Leopardstown but a pity the Oxx horse went wrong in the race (esp as I had forecast it with the winner!).
Good performance by Prendergast’s in the 2-y-o maiden, looked a picture in the parade ring and picked-up nicely …. O’Brien’s ran on well into second after looking a bit green.
Reasonable crowd and probably not a bad idea to switch it from its usual midweek slot.A blank weekend for Ballydoyle …. almost everything they ran finished second.
May 25, 2010 at 08:05 in reply to: JP McManus/O Reilly/Coolmore starting to Irk Irish Punters #296796The fact is that spin/hype or whatever you like to call it is part of O’Brien’s job spec. When he broke through first he was intensely shy and could hardly look at the camera when being interviewed. Remember the Cheltenham winner (Urubande?) when he wasn’t recognised by the Cheltenham gateman and refused entry to the winners enslosure … it was O’Brien who looked most embarrassed about the incident.
There was the same shy honesty about him when he started at Ballydoyle but he has been media coached over the years to provide the answers that he does and say what he does without ever really saying anything.
However, on the odd occasion, good interviewers like Nick Luck and James Willoughby can get quite a lot out of him.May 24, 2010 at 10:15 in reply to: JP McManus/O Reilly/Coolmore starting to Irk Irish Punters #296686As i said the ordinary Joe Public seem to have nothing but contempt for the Big Lads.
No they don’t! …. this is some nonsense from a BF forumesque chatroom which, like the former, is best kept away from here.
Correct of course Prospero.
If Steinbeck runs then JV might go for the 10f Group 3 on Sunday …. if he doesn’t then its most probably the 2000.
All races up to a mile at the Curragh are always ran on the straight track …. there is a slight dog-leg after a furlong. The 2000 Guineas has never been ran over the round course. Canford Cliffs and Extension have the classic appearance of horses that were trained for Newmarket, fell short and now stump up at the Curragh. Both have possible stamina issues also. Fencing Master a confident choice to improve past both.
