Snow Fairy blew up in a listed race on soft ground 19l at the end of last year after after running 3rd a short neck in a G3. Doesn’t look good for the favorite, The Dam wasn’t in love with it either..

Hibaayeb looks to have question marks over it too. Eased on GS at Newmarket in the Guineas. She seems to thrive on GF more than anything. Dam didn’t mind it but only wins came on GF.

Meeznah has run on Good at worst but Dynaformer is 14% on Heavy ground and the Dam won a listed on VSft in France and broke her maiden on GS.

Eldalil and Hibaayeb share the same sire who in fact has a less than brilliant record for progeny on GS or worse at 6%/7% and 15% on GF. Dam didn’t look too keen on it but went close on GS on one occasion

Remember Whens dam just didn’t look very good on any ground. Danehill Dancers progeny have no issue with it though and RW pushed winner to a neck on debut on Heavy. Not much to say other than it doesn’t look like causing any issues.

Akdarena has 2yo Soft form at the Curragh. Looks like she was running too short a distance though at that point (IMO). Sire Hernando seems to have balanced record on ground with 15% on heavy. Dam won 17 runner maiden at 4/9 by 5l on Yielding at Fairyhouse and arguably her worst run came on Good at Doncaster.

Desert Sage ran winner to 1/2l on debut on GS. Sire 9% on Heavy and 11-12% on Soft, GS. Balanced. Winless dam ran whole career in France in bogs so hard to decipher but ran 1/2l on debut on VSft and 2nd again on Soft at Deauville.

    Last One

Crystal Gal ran best in the Irish Guineas on GF but beat Free Judgement and Jan Vermeer on debut in Sft/Heavy ground at the Curragh. Jan Vermeer a derby hopeful and Free Judgement who was closest to Canford Cliffs in the Irish Guineas. Disappointed in an 8f Listed race on Soft back at the Curragh but beaten by Lady Lupus, Akdarena, and Atasari who are very quick but probably don’t stay. Crystal Gal got to within 3l of bethra in the Irish guineas, finishing just behind Lillie Langtry and Music Show (Both came out and won Group ones subsequently over a mile). Shes By Galileo out of a Danehill mare (he produces a lot of stayers despite being a sprinter himself) so is bred to stay. 40/1, 33/1 could be made to look very silly tomorrow.

No one interested in Snow Fairys win?

SNOW FAIRY put in an imperious performance in the Darley-sponsored Irish Oaks, streaking clear of her rivals in impressive fashion under a hands and heels ride from Ryan Moore.

Snow Fairy put eight lengths between herself and the Godolphin-owned Miss Jean Brodie, who won the battle for second on only her third career start. Joseph O’Brien steered Lady Lupus home in third with Investec Oaks runner-up Meeznah only able to take fourth.

Ribblesdale winner Hibaayeb, who was sent off the 100-30 favourite for Frankie Dettori and Saeed Bin Suroor, was one of the first beaten, never looking dangerous and was eased down with two furlongs to go before trailing home last.

Ice Empress, one of five runners for Aidan O’Brien, led the field along ata fierce early gallop, with usual front-runner Akdarena having to settle in behind. Lady Lupus and Meeznah, the eventual third and fourth, occupied those same positions in the early part of the race.

Snow Fairy jumped far more prominently than at Epsom but was reined back by Moore to sit in midfield alongside Dettori, fully fifteen lengths off Ice Empress. Johnny Murtagh held O’Brien’s first string, and Epsom Oaks third, Remember When out the back of the field.

Thefield were content to sit off the strong early pace but the race changed complexion on the home turn with the strong pace taking it’s toll and the majority of the field never getting competitive.

Moore, however, was travelling with consummate ease and, as those around him were hard at work, Moore surged clear. The same surge that was so impressive at Epsom was demonstrated again on the Curragh and Snow Fairy opened up a gap on her pursuers in a matter of strides, and continued to pullaway all the way to the line.

Miss Jean Brodie stayed on to grab second on the line from Lady Lupus, who duelled with Meeznah for the entirety of the home straight

I think the problem, if you can call it that, with Snow Fairy is a) he realtively unknown owner and b) he short of top class (at present I stress) trainer.

Imagine if she wore lets say the Abdullah silks and was trained at Warren Place, she would be regarded as the second coming on the back or a superlative display such as the one witnessed this afternoon.

I do hope they lay her out for the Arc now. Its considerably more money for a start – the Arc run up last year earned more thatn the winner of the BC Filly and Mare Turf. The Arc win prize also exceeds that of the BC Turf by some way – nearly double. The BC Classic is too short for her so the Arc, now she proves she can win convincingly in soft ground, has to be the way to go.

I think going to York is unecessary as it will only confirm what we now know – she is the best middle distance 3yo fill by some way. Why risk leaving the Arc at York – give her a holiday, aim her at the Vermeille followed by the Arc. Lets face it if the Aga Khan owned her that plan would be a given.

I think as I mentioned in another thread on the Stoute fillies down the years, keeping them on the go into August seems to have taken the edge off them come the Parisian autumn.

    Well said.

Mind you, how about a straight up match race between her and Workforce? Not something to bet on, but just to watch…

So don't run, just like the others always do

Fivelongdays, that would be a mouthwatering clash. As stupid as some people may think it sounds, she could be supplemented for the KG and lets have it off on Saturday! The mighily awesome Dahlia completed the double in 1973 – admittedly with an extra revoery day then as the Irish Oaks was still run on a Saturday back then.

Come on Mr Dunlop, have a go!!!!!

If she loses, the excuse is an easy one to find – ie race came to soon. If she wins she is the best we have seen in many a long year. Then whatever happens put her away for the Vermeille/Arc.

Just seen ATR – Ed Dunlop has stated she will be given a break now, the Yorkshire Oaks is not a given. The Vermeille has been mentioned though the Arc is putting them off because of the ground. He "has a love affair" with the Breeders Cup so will persuade the owner to go to Churchill Downs with her.

It will be a bit annoying if a filly of this visual impression at least, avoids Longchamp – the only realistic target for her is a sub-standard Fill and Mars Turf race (the Classic and Ladies classic is too short for her). I suppose she could go for the Turf but even that race only attracts a lesser type of American horse.

Lest face it unless you are going to take the Americans on at their own game (ie on the dirt) then running in the BC Turf races probably does a lot less for a mare’s stud value than winning an Arc

Some one on another forum said Hibaayeb was a great bet and I replied that she’s the most likely to hate the ground. I wasn’t wrong. Snow fairy wasn’t proven on GS/GY and had potential, but Hibaayeb has shown she hates it and now theres no denying it

I thought this was a really impressive performance but, impressive as it was I would follow the path they are suggesting. I believe Dunlop also confirmed that she would stay in training at four all being well; that would be the time to take on the colts.

    She is no Zarkava….
