The fact is that spin/hype or whatever you like to call it is part of O’Brien’s job spec. When he broke through first he was intensely shy and could hardly look at the camera when being interviewed. Remember the Cheltenham winner (Urubande?) when he wasn’t recognised by the Cheltenham gateman and refused entry to the winners enslosure … it was O’Brien who looked most embarrassed about the incident.
There was the same shy honesty about him when he started at Ballydoyle but he has been media coached over the years to provide the answers that he does and say what he does without ever really saying anything.
However, on the odd occasion, good interviewers like Nick Luck and James Willoughby can get quite a lot out of him.

Yes this is a really fair/accurate guide to the views of Irish racing followers…and you agree with the comments Wallace? As others said – betfair fodder.

    Read what i said.

I can understand where some Punters are coming from saying that look at these Men worth billions and are non-resident for tax purposes. That is fair and true.

But as i said i have great time for Coolmore especially and the others aswell due to the amount of investment they have given Irish Racing over the many decades. They should rightly be applauded.

But as i said from the Irish Racing blog their are a few who dislike them even for every 10 that does.

The greatest supporter of the Irish Racing Game is the Royal Highness the Aga Khan IMO. The investment his family has given needs to be applauded more than ever. He gave the HRI the Stand House Hotel for free for the redevelopment of the Curragh(which still looks like it won’t be done for many years) and then the closed the Hotel Down

As far as Aiden’s dark glasses and mobile phone goes he’s only one of many racing charachters who has a instantly recognisable trade mark.

Jack Berry owned 150 red shirts and on the hundreds of occasions I saw him racing he always donned one.

What about Charlie the Hat? could hardly miss him………goes way way back to the time when Lawrence Dundas was instantly reconizable with McCririck sideburns and how about the American Cowboy Chip Woolley? Hell you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on the set of an old episode of Gunsmoke when he dons his 10 gallon hat and handlebar mouser.

Don’t get the dig on JP McMunus……he didn’t make winning from racing tax free and even if they weren’t he couldn’t give a rats ass…he could buy the tax man at one end of the street and sell him at the other if he had a mind to…..This man has raised and given millions to charity and is well known for being a more than generous man in that shpere.

Anyway no sense in taking this thread too seriously as Wallace could extract the urine out of a vestal virgin after they buried her

I extracted a few thought provoking quotes. As for that quote…I stopped at Urine

I believe that that great supporter of Irish Racing Mr. Weld opposed the planning permission to rebuild the road to the Curragh(following the donation from the Aga Khan) while putting a statue up there to a horse he trained!Interesting personality.
