We had a decent Irish National Hunt horses to follow thread going earlier on in the winter so we might as well get one up and running for this flat lark.

It has been the Tommy & Fozzy Stack show so far but it steps up another gear at HQ on Sunday. Last year’s Irish Derby winner Fame And Glory is entered up in the Alleged Stakes on Sunday along with Gan Amhras and last year’s Oaks second Roses For The Lady. This race has been won in the past by such greats as the Arc winner Dylan Thomas and the Champion Hurdler Sublimity!

Hopefully the ground will dry out and Fame and Glory will run …. a suitable race to take as a stepping stone to the Tatersalls Gold Cup or the Coronation Cup.
Alfred Nobel is entered in the Loughbrown and would appear a likely one for the French 2000 Guineas although its worth noting that Ballydoyle have only had token runners at this Curragh card in recent years.
Flat cards at Limerick and the Junction next week and the Ballysax meeting at Leopardstown on the Sunday to look forward to as well.

Not exactly knocked about was he?

Flynn’s mare is fierce admirable though – hard as nails.

Bit of a farce lets be fair.

Hopefully that sight is over now for the year that schooling…does nothing for the game and in fact should be punished.

If it matters Fame and Glory goes to the Ganay next and then on to the Tatts.

    Dylan Thomas season i imagine….

I’ve just heard that Starspangledbanner (ex AUS) may run in the 6f Duke Of York Stakes, depending on how training goes in the next 10 days.

    Interesting.

AOB will have to be at his best to get that thing to run when its coming to the end of their season down under.

Hasn’t be dogged so hopefully their is a bit left for him to show how good he is.

Walk on Bye i see is also entered. She could be decent for the Stack’s.

This could be an interesting trendsbuster for Zarkava! Traditionally, the form of the Duke Of York has no relevance to the rest of the season.

    Next Sunday

Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Maiden of €17500.00 6f.
Heritage Stakes (Listed) of €42500.00 1m.
    P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes (Group 3) of €50000.00 1m. 2f.
    Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Maiden of €16500.00 1m. 2f.

Actually i think its great that the small trainers can get the big prizes early on in the season. Paul Deegan has already had a great season and She’s Our Mark is simply a brill horse and has been kept on the go despite numerous Black type win and placings against some of the best from the Big Stables. She is going to be a very wealthy broodmare for the owners.

Aidan O’Brien was far from despondent about the comeback effort of Fame And Glory

"He just got tired. We’re delighted with him. It was tough going out there. We needed to get him started and he was ready to come racing. Don’t be disappointed with him," said O’Brien.

"The plan was to come here and then look at the (Prix) Ganay and then the Tattersalls (Gold Cup). We’ll see if he is forward enough for that now.

"Johnny looked after him and was happy afterwards. It was tough going as the ground was very tacky."

O’Brien also revealed that Alfred Nobel will drop back in trip after finishing well beaten in the Loughbrown Stakes.

"Alfred Nobel is a fast horse and we’ll go back in trip with him. Remember Stravinsky got beat in this race with no penalty."

The Ballydoyle handler also had news of some of his other stable stars.

"Everything so far is grand and we’re getting there. We have three more weeks," said O’Brien about 2,000 Guineas favourite St Nicholas Abbey.

"We also have Beethoven, Viscount Nelson and Fencing Master for Newmarket but I would be worried about soft ground for any of the four."

"Hopefully we’ll get Steinbeck away for a day around the time of the English Guineas."

That is very important information. To know he is happy with SNA is all we need to know.So far he thinks it will win.Aidan wants to compete with John Oxx’s record from last year,so he will try to win the Guineas and go from there.

2:45 – Not a very competitive race, Keredari still has everything to prove at a higher level, might be one to take on when upped in class at a shortish price now that he has 131 against his name.

3:45 – Best performances of the 3 pattern races on the card. Developed into a good battle so decent form and Kargali and Rayeni will remain competitive in Group 3 company if the ground stays soft.

4:15 – Not the strongest of races given the lack of fitness of Fame and Glory and Gan Amhras, competitive enough but the proximity of Pop Murphy weighs the form down.

Standard early season fare, only the Group 3 barely up to scratch.

Looked a poor renewal of the Ballysax today. Couldn’t have Mikail Glinka at all at the price and I very much doubt he’s very high up Ballydoyle’s 3yo pecking order.

I was quite impressed with Famous Name. He might just sneak a weak Group 1 contest somewhere before the year is out. It’s a pity we don’t have more opportunities for the better milers in Ireland though.

Zoffany did it readily on his debut but I’d always be a bit wary of Ballydoyle’s early season 2yos.

Agreed, the two-year-old probably didn’t have much to beat but he’s a real good-bodied sort, don’t remember Aidan having too many Dansili’s in the past.
Recharge was well-backed and its safe to assume he ran his race making making it all the more meritorius a performance from Famous Name.
Perhaps moving up to 10f will suit the second.
Once again the three year old maiden looked pretty average and I couldn’t believe the 4/6 was bet on the jolly given the winner of the previous meetings maiden in which he was third was last in the Ballysax and the second was beaten at Limerick during the week.
Unsurprisingly a small enough crowd again despite it being a reasonably nice day.

I was quite taken by Chinese White at Gowran. She’ll take a lot of beating back at the Curragh in the Pretty Polly I feel.

Fame And Glory out again in the Mooresbridge tomorrow with Recharge looking the main danger. Will Johnny bring his stick with him tomorrow or is he just having another prep for the Tatts Gold Cup?

Going back to the Leopardstown 10f maidens, September Morn looked a right hound again at Newmarket on Sunday.
He will probably go for the Royal Ascot 12f handicap but would be one to oppose in a maiden at home.

Thought the Tetrarch was a good race, multiple challenges inside the last 1 1/2 furlongs, Bolger certainly instils resolution in a lot of his horses. The first 3 look ready for a step up in class and will be followed with interest.

Like the way Lolly For Dolly went straight through a tight gap when asked for her effort, she’ll definitely stay further and will have plenty of opportunities at Group 3 level in the coming months.

Did you see the debut of Head Space a Jim Bolger horse won by 5L and the 2nd horse came out and beat High Award.A early 2000 guineas horse for next year.
