    Great trainer and great man.
I was allowed to meet and pat both the greats i.e. Night Nurse and Sea Pigeon as a birthday present as a youth.
Only thing I can’t forgive him for , was allowing Little Owl to prevent Night Nurse winning the Gold Cup.
    Only joking.
May you rest in peace , and my condolences to you and yours.

    Well done to the fella.
Shocking amount of abuse he has apparently received on social media.
Really hope that his career kicks on now.

    Sad to disagree with many.
The rules are the rules , otherwise what is the point of having them , if they are not enforced.
Amateur races should either be whip free , or alternatively , the whip (because , let’s be honest , it is a sanitised version of that) should only be allowed in a corrective safety capacity.

I think that Paul Cole trained 40 ish Group 1 winners worldwide , back in the day. Yet I don’t think that he trained for the Makhtoum family , that was a pre requisite for success , back then.

This. You have absolutely hit the bullseye in my view.
Nobody is bigger than the sport , but it isn’t the same since the loss of the great man.

The use of pacemakers does need to be regulated as non triers (where appropriate),
AS LD73 referred to earlier Highest and Kinglet set a suicidal pace , that they could never maintain , and that finished the careers of both Grundy and Bustino/ , and could be looked upon as abuse.
Similar tactics are used over the jumps , allegedly e.g. the Toby Tobias iisues re Carvills Hill in the Gold Cup.
We should try to stop team tactics , in my view.

The Gosden’s have handled this extremely poorly , in my opinion.
We all know that where an employee (which a stable jockey is ) is underachieving , then this should be addressed , but in private , not public.
The problem that they now face is that there is not a great wealth of top jockeys available. Once you get past Moore , Murphy , James Doyle , Marquand and Keane , the drop off is spectacular.
I hope that Shoemark will learn from the experience and rebuild his career.

My condolences to his family and friends.
My dad and I got to speak to him a couple of times. Always seemed to make time for “ordinary Joe’s” like us.
If memory serves , he always seemed to have a productive relationship with Bill Watts.

Agree 100 % with Cork All Star.
Her gender is highly relevant , and she has certainly paved the way for others.
She has been a fine jockey , and in my opinion would be a major asset as a broadcaster , as she always speaks knowledgeably and wisely.
I wish her every success for a happy future.
Oh , and she was certainly a better jockey than Hollie Doyle , in my opinion !.

Thanks Rob , I accept your point entirely.
However , my own view , is that this is totally what goes on all the time on the flat to obtain a favourable handicap rating. Certain trainers (who we all know) exploit it (wrong trip etc.).
In the case of jumping though (in my view) it is surely more important to give all horses , whether lower grade or not , at least a chance to get some experience over fences , before over stretching them ?

Surely , the issue is that we want to ensure that good horses meet each other competitively when experienced.
Who wants to see young , imexperieced horses on the floor , or worse , before they have been given suitable expertise.
I sometimes ask myself whether the animal rights brigade have the upper hand in this debate ?
That is not a malicious / facetious point.
Any views welcome , but tin hat on !

Sad to hear this , and my best wishes to him and all those close to him.
The riding arrangements for him and O’Gorman , along with Brian Taylor with Jeremy Hindley served me well.
    God bless

What a sad swansong to a great career. Last of 12 at Nottingham , and one of 14 consecutive losers.

All should be eligible, whether colts , fillies , stallions ,
mares , or geldings , in my view.

This absolute farce needs to be dropped , along with that other joke event the “Racing League”.
Pathetic , contrived nonsense , in my view.
