Good luck with your filly foal Sovies friend. My prayers are with you both
I would always pay attention if the money is down on a Mick Easterby runner.
Talking of which, he has an amazing offer on his website. Selling horses as guaranteed winners or your money back. Amazing and interestingHe claimed that he had been held up in heavy traffic on his way to Epsom.
Haven’t heard any excuses re his none show at Chantilly. Has anyone else heard anything ?. It never ceases to surprise me that racing journos rarely do a thorough job in pursuing these matters. If any other high profile sportsman didn’t show up it would be big news.
I hope that he hasn’t gone astray , but have often thought that he is his own worst enemyCheers cormack15
This seems , to be a really good format with, in the main, really interesting contributors, who respect each others views.
Very refreshing.
Any chance that you can un-retire Pat Eddery for me !
An absolute genius
Hold ups, ride from the front, dodge pots, top class, sellers , the lotHi Guys
Sorry cormack15 I hope that none of my posts (as a new contributor) have offended you
In my view racing is all about healthy differing views of jockeys, trainers, tactics etc
I agree 100 % that comments slagging off individual rides are not helpful as we all make mistakes and get bad luck.
I agree in part with your views about the jocks, in that Murtagh certainly (imo) would have held his own with all time greats, and I would also include the recently retired Kinane.
I think that Moore, with more top class experience, could also graduate to the upper echelon. It is unfair to currently be able to compare him with Piggott, Eddery et al
Have to agree to disagree with Fallon and the others though mate.
Still this is what makes racing great. This is a really interesting issue for me. I remember as a lad watching the King George at Ascot ( I think around 1975) involving Grundy, Bustino, Star Appeal and Dahlia. Dick Hern used a couple of pacemakers to aid Bustino (might have been Highest and Kinglet). If I remember correctly they went off like scalded cats and were beaten out of sight even before the straight. Does anyone know what the punishment could have been as they clearly were not running to obtain the best position for those 2 horses
I agree with Chiswickian.
In my view Fallon is in no way as professional in his attitude and application to his trade, compared to Moore.
Whilst not dismissing his undoubted skills, he has repeatedly let himself and his employers down throughout his career. In my opinion this will continue and sadly Mr Cumani will suffer in due course.
Trainers may turn a blind eye to these failings when a jockey is at the top of his game, but in my view Fallon is a fading star, who will merely become more of a liability with timeAgreed Betfair
I used to like the Pitman operation, but that left a real bad taste in the mouth, and could have been dangerous to both horse and riderThanks again Gerald
Nice to hear that he went out on a high.
I remember him as a very talented novice at Gordon Richards.
Suspect jumping seemed to be his problem. He was tanking along when coming down in the ArkleThanks Gerald
I remember the Golden Freeze sham, I think, if I remember correctly, Mrs Pitman was trying to set the race up for Toby Tobias. There is no doubt, in my opinion, that Golden Freeze was just in the race to upset Carvills Hill’s jumping.
Still that is nothing compared to returning poor old Floyd to training. I am not surprised that Mr. Elsworth was upset. What were Walsh and Akehurst thinking .
Nice to hear that Carvills Hill enjoyed his retirement.
Thsnks for taking the time to provide the info. Many intersesting views on here guys.
As a newcomer to this forum it seems relatively balanced and informative which is good to see.
As mentioned in a previous response to Matthew I think Hughes makes many injudicious decisions.
However, in total contrast to NH racing at the moment, I think that flat racing has its lowest ever standard of top notch jockeys, and this has gone on for the last 10 or so years.
Althogh accepting comparisons over the years are difficult, there is no way that the likes of Fallon, Hughes, Spencer, Dettori et al. can compare to Eddery, Piggott, Mercer, Carson, Starkey who were all riding at the same time, when I first became involved with racing.
Moore may prove to be exceptional, and I hope that he continues to improve, and he may indeed prove to be a an all time great.
However thw afore-mentioned group are not in the same league as Eddery and Piggott, and never will beThanks ever so much FairyBridge
Great link with wonderful photos – so nice to see the old boy enjoying himself so much
Sad to hear about old beech Road. This can happen to all jockeys from time to time. Until Fallon started riding a bit better in the last 10 days or so, he was miising the break on a regular basis also.
I agree it does look like the beginning of the end. Sad for Timmy as I think that he is absolutely top class. I think that Mr Johnson may be scaling back his operations in the recession. There was a Johnson runner at Cartmel last week and Timmy never rode it even though he was there
Yep, another good ride, but in fairness the horses performance was exceptional, and virtually anyone could have won on it.
Still hats off to Ryan, I am sure he will have many more big race successesI would agree that the Oaks ride was great, but lets remember that this was Ryans only classic success so far.
I think that he is a talented jockey but merely stands out because the others are distictly average. I say this having started my interest in racing when the crop of jockeys included the likes of Eddery, Piggot, Mercer, Carson ,Starkey etc.
The first 2 of the afore-mentioned stand imo comparison with the all time greats
Fallon is strong in a finish but tactically weak and all too regularly misses the break. Hughes and Spencer make too many errors. As I say imo opinion a distinctly average bunch. This is in contrast with the National Hunt situation which is brimming with talent i.e. Murphy, Walsh, McCoy, Geraghty, Brennan, Johnson, Lee- AuthorPosts
