Sorry to hear he has been unwell. I hope he makes a full recovery.
I remember asking him for his autograph at Newmarket when I was about 14. He rode a lot of winners for Bill O’Gorman back in those days.

November 8, 2024 at 18:08 #1712150I’ll always associate him with the prolific Provideo.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
November 8, 2024 at 18:38 #1712159I remember the association he had with Bill O’Gorman. All the best to him, especially when you need cash to cover the costs.

November 8, 2024 at 23:59 #1712191Sad to hear this , and my best wishes to him and all those close to him.
The riding arrangements for him and O’Gorman , along with Brian Taylor with Jeremy Hindley served me well.
God blessMay 27, 2026 at 04:27 #1767414I was saddened to read that Tony Ives died at the weekend. He was a fine rider, never more so than on Teleprompter in the Arlington Million.
RIP.
May 27, 2026 at 08:51 #1767422First horses i thought of when i saw this were Brondesbury and Provideo . Cracking jockey and was great following results on the radio to see if Provideo had won again .
May 27, 2026 at 09:23 #1767427Very sad news. My most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Fond memories of Brondesbury with Tony Ives atop as I saw them win the Great Surrey Stakes on Derby Day 1982, my only visit to Epsom.
May 27, 2026 at 09:56 #1767432Sorry to hear this too. Recall the Classic placings for Remainder Man.
May 27, 2026 at 12:20 #1767440Me too Pilgarlic – not too many classic runners emanate from Staffordshire yards. My memory may be playing me tricks but I remember a Martin Julien statistics annual where he rated jockies based on how horses performed for them compared with other jockies. All the big names were at near the top of the list but above them all was Tony Ives.
May 28, 2026 at 08:46 #1767463Very sorry to hear that. Was always there along with the likes of brian taylor. Glad he got some big days. Was great on 2yos and old handicappers. Rip.
May 28, 2026 at 09:31 #1767465Got me thinking when I’d first come across his name. 55 years ago he would have been preparing for a Derby ride on Beaming Lee, one of a few running at mega odds that Mill Reef year. He was prominent to Tottenham Corner.
May 28, 2026 at 10:15 #1767466He was almost in his 40s when I started going to the bookies. I don’t remember any of his rides in those days.
74 is no longer that old nowadays.
May he rest in peace. - AuthorPosts
