Some good points, Wedger Paddy did run really well, he’s suited by Cross Country racing, but your suggestion (If I read your post correctly) that Nina Carberry would be following anyone to guide her round the correct route did make me laugh.

Yes. Sorry THREE riders took the correct route, Katie Walsh being on the third, another Class act of course

Shack…Luckily it’s the bookies money I’m playing with. Although my NH season profits have been in steady decline since peaking when Voler La Vedette and Big Zeb won at Navan in November I’ve still got enough of "The Auld Enemy’s" cash left to see me through Cheltenham

Quevega’s a cert runner. This is her race, and in a few years time it’ll surely be know as the ‘Quevega Hurdle’. Unaccompanied or not, she’ll lash up. Nap of the week, every year 8)

She would cap a marvellous day for the punters if Sprinter and The Fly have done the business beforehand.
I can picture the scenes of Newspapers and Hats flying in the air as she pings the last 10 lengths clear :D,

I’m slightly embarrassed to admit I too have gone for the bleeding obvious with a first day AP NRNB treble, my intention was to try to cover the rest of my AP/NRNB investments which are almost all on long shots, 20/1, 33/1, 50/1, 66/1 plus Gailieo’s Choice (7/1)

    SPRINTER SACRE @ 10/11
    HURRICANE FLY @ 4/6
    QUEVEGA @ 1/2

    £819.30 WIN TREBLE

My only "fear" is the first one, the strange ammount is due to an odd balance in one of my accounts

I’m sure everyone who follows Pointing and Hunters is glad to hear Mid Div is well. thanks for the info.

Anyone intersted in this race might want to check the Albert Bartlett thread where an exchange of views on The National Hunt Chase has sprung up recently.

It would appear I’m far from the only one who’s sweet on the chances of the Irish mare, ASKANNA

Not better over hurdles! But not bad form any how.I think that race in Punchestown was one of the most competitive novice races run all season in Ireland, the race was full of winners and a heap of horses have came out and won 16wins-9 horses and 7 placed in around 10months.Also worth noting he bet Alle Garde around 8’s for this race 14L.

The runner up Mossey Joe, is rated by many shrewd judges as one of the best prospects in Ireland. Check the manner of his win on his hurdling debut at Cork when he beat Fists Of Fury and Askanna, I promise, you’ll never see anything like it again.

Before betting on this race, one needs to understand the history and tradition of Banks racings. The “Arc De Triumph” of this discipline is the 4m2f La Touche Cup run at The Punchestown Festival which makes the cross-country race at the Cheltenham Festival look as unchallenging as the flatter parts of Norfolk. There are banks and stone walls and fences and all sorts to be confronted as the horses criss-cross and track back all over the course . Enda Bolger has dominated this race, winning 14 of the last 16 runnings a record that is unequalled in the world of racing. With all respect to the great Michael Dickenson, eat your heart out Sir! …and Bart Cummings doesn’t even come close.

Since the introduction of a cross country race at Cheltenham he’s turned his hand to the Glenfarclas with almost equal success having won four of the seven runnings of the race with three different horses. His stable jockeys are JT MacNamara and Nina Carberry, Nina rode three of these Festival winners.
Enda himself was one of the finest amateurs ever to throw a leg over a horse and is most famously associated with the amazing Elegant Lord who probably should have had a Gold Cup to his name were it not that Enda kept him to Hunter Chasing.

None could be blamed for backing one of his runners blindly in this race, if for no other reason than the man’s unbelievable record in this type of event, but add to that his attention to detail in preparing an animal for these fences combined with the sheer horsemanship and the seemingly built in compasses of Nina Carberry and JT MacNamara and the stable is hard to oppose. It came as no surprise to those who follow Banks racing to see only two horses take the correct route in the Novemver Cross Country were ridden by those two jockeys

WISHFUL THINKING!!!!First L wasnt behind her that day or any other day.

See first reply, it was Last Instalment , a better horse than First Lieutenant any day you like :D

I have looked at a few of her races and have to agree she is very interesting. Regular pilot will be on board (not many could boast that) and she has a weight allowance. 50/1 NRNB is far too big, so I’ll be dipping in/ Small stake mind.
It was Last Instalment that was in behind.

Ooops, Correct Aston, I always gets those two mixed up in my head, I’ve been watching too many replays this week

Askanna will stay all day long (until Friday, actually) with his/her breeding. Friend of mine mentioned him/her last night, but only 2 runs over fences, right?

Yes, two runs both over 20f but she’s won two points before running under rules. He first chase, she won and had the RP analyist drooling, I’ve re-run that race a few times, I’ve been very impressed by the sharpness of her fencing.
Second run means zitch, she had to hurdle a faller immediately after clearing the 7th fence, never recovered her composure and was pulled up, reported to have got a kick and got unsettled but showed he agility.
Although she’s tiny she’s very brave, if you rerun her Group 2 hurdle win at Punchestown you’ll see how she copes with a barging match coming into the straight.
Also check the quality of the field strung out like washing behind her. (Mossey Joe, Battle Group, First Lieutenant etc etc)

Chelt Spec, I know you are keen on Sword Of Destiny, but I really don’t think he will travel. This horse is very ground dependant and it certainly looks like the ground will be too fast for him. Meade has already suggested that this would be the case.
Lovely horse for next season’s winter ground mind.

Hence the NRNB, my feeling is the same as yours but if he shows up it’ll be because the ground is deemed suitable and his price will tumble.

Most of my bets are of a similar profile, currently overpriced if they run, money back if they don’t. It can be frustrating, last year we were on First Lieutenant for big money at 33/1 NRNB for the Supreme, he was in my festival yankee too luckily I managed to get most of that bet changed to The Neptune on the Monday but at SP only, big difference. I’m still convinced he’d have won The Supreme.

The one I’m really keen on is Askanna in the 4 miler, I can’t for the life of me understand why she’s not at a single figure price and I’m into her for £200 EW @ 50/1 NRNB again of course.
Check her win at last years Punchestown Festival

The race is NRNB with a lot of firms. I’m pretty sure Harpsy Cord will go for a hcap.

Just noticed my Harpsy Cord post is a bit ambiguous, I’ve backed him in The RSA, I feel he needs 3 miles

Still think there’s a big chance Sir Des Champs will run in the Jewson. Please god let First Lieutenant run in the RSA :?

That’s how I’d run them, my only worry is First Lieutenant’s fencing although he still my first (and most realistic) choice.
That said the more I watch the reruns the more I’m starting to fancy HAPRSY CORD to get a place at least, so much so I’ve just had a speculative £50 EW @ 66/1 NRNB
NRNB There will be the usual carnage, I don’t expect Grand Crus to run and Dreaper’s horse is a solid jumper, stays well and at only six, he’s still improving and may have slipped under radar.
He’s got entries in shorter races but he looks a stayer to me

Agree PC is not a betting proposition for now full stop. With SDC swerving this I’ve yet to commit, maybe Willie thinks Call The Police can do the business here? He did run well lto travelling well up alongside Last Instalment before not quite finding as much as LI on the run in.

Much as it pains me to agree, I must
I love Peddler’s, I’ve been on him every time he’s run (Covered my main fancies, Rite of Passage and Hurricane Fly, with him EW at the last two Festivals) but I don’t think I’ll be backing him this year even if he does run.
I don’t think we know all the reasons and background to his well being this season but I no longer expect him to run at The Festival at all. If he’s not 100% why risk him?

A big field line up for Catterick’s Hunter Chase today, with quite a few relative newcomers boasting recent form in points field. Of those, most have form lines in that sphere which suggest they are unlikely trouble the very consistent MONOGRAM. The ex Howard Johnston 8-Y-O not only holds most of his main challengers on flags form but is one of the few of these who has shown he can be just as effective over regulation fences and clearly looks the one to beat here and should be a fairly sound investment

Goodness, you’ve resorted to quoting Oscar Wilde.

Great. Sounds like a wonderful man.
