Where is our sense of History? Considering this is the oldest race at The Festival I’m surprised that there was no thread started for the race, so here goes.

Anyone who thinks Sir Des Champs and Hidden Cyclone ran true to form at Leopardstown must surely make FISTS OF FURY their banker of this or any future Festival, if the form is right he’s unbeatable, up there alongside or infront of Hurricane Fly and Big Bucks.

Personally I feel Hidden Cyclone must have run at least a stone below his true form so I’ll be looking for value elsewhere.

ASKANNA, MID DIV AND CREEP, MERCHANT ROYAL, FOUR COMMANDERS in that order make the most appeal at first run through the field

This race used to be a favourite of mine, but now the conditions have changed it’s noting like the race it was. Recall landing decent punts on Smooth Escort ridden by Tony Martin and a monster gamble on Keep Talking with Marcus Armytage up.
Too early to get an angle yet I think, however keeping onside anything trained by Jonjo or McManus owned is a wise move.

Fists of Fury was put up at Tipperary tonight as the best bet of the meeting by Davy Russell. Although Russell put up Midnight Chase as his charity bet.

Zarks: Thanks for all the comments from the Cheltenham Preview Night mate, you can do well when you put your mind to it :D

This Fists of Fury, what do you think? I read Davy Russell a lot on the irish Portfolio and he writes very well! Do not know a lot about the horse mate but 14s generally in an open looking event

Davy Russell talks more bull$hit than any jockey in the weighing room. His comments aren’t worth 2p. He has regular form at these meetings and people that follow preview nights know that.

I recall one in recent years where he really put people away when a monster gamble was landed. May have been Tiger Cry in the Grand Annual. But then again, he has had some decent quotes to his name. Maybe he just gives different info at each one he guests at and drops lucky, like a certain PF Nicholls does at these do’s.

Any positives that this is the most likely race for Universal Soldier ?

    If so, i’m on it.

I have to be on Teaforthree in this race. he jumps really well. I am happy to ignore the suicidal pace race from last time. He has bug field cheltenham for albeit over hurdles. Also ran a VERY nice race against join together here which must be close to winning this.

One other horse i am keen on is up the beat but i suspect he might bypass straight for the irish national. Came second last time out carrying 11-12 on his 3rd chase start. Massive jumping and staying performance for a novice!!! National horse for the future.

Mullins has a strong hand but i wouldn’t be on the twice raced soll purely because the price is too short and he has only had two chase starts. Like Lambro but he is probably going to be aimed a little higher.

Would go for strongbows legend but for the fact that he has fallen twice and his best performances have been at courses with easier fences. Oppose.

One other horse i am keen on definite dawn who runs this week.
Not sure i would be able to go for him if that is the case as a few weeks recovery isn’t enough.

Iron chancellor could be crying out for further but to be honest id have wanted more than 4th over 3m1 last time in class 3 to consider him, especially as he tailed of a bit.

Glens boy won all out last time but a hike in weights and class will surely halt him.

Maringo bay is yet to win but has some ok large field for amd stays 3miles, has been outbattled in the chase department though so would concern me.

Baile Anrai has fallen twice at harder fences.

Universal soldier could be decent but his only win has been a 4 runner affair and i just can’t have that.

Wouldn’t want fists of fury who blundered his way round cheltenham before.

Teaforthree definite and Up the Beat if he goes.

Harry the Viking is one of the horses affected by coughing in Nicholls’ yard.

Had a further look at this race last night and have got it down to a shortlist of about 8. I suspect a few will go else where so i am hoping for four perhaps to choose from.

Nicholls has an appalling record in this race so cough or no cough easily opposed in my book.

Allee Garde and Fists of Fury both at 14s my early picks.

Fists of Fury misses Cheltenham, See Racing Post news

Merchant Royal goes for The Foxhunters

    Which means

ASKANNA will do for me. 40/1 Available, regular jockey/top Amateur on board, forget latest run where she had to hurdle a faller early in the race. Check her hurdle win at Punchestown Festival

Thanks for the info Yorkie the bet365 NRNB swings it for me, I’m in!!!

I’ve had a bit of the 50/1 about ASKANNA
also SWORD OF DESTINY (Alb Bart) 20/1
    and BRADLEY (Foxhunters) 33/1
    EW Singles & Trixie

I also liked the look of Mid Div And Creep but she took a horrible looking fall last week which puts me off, I think she’ll need a week or two to get over that.
Merchant Royal is probably my second choice for The Foxhunters and I’ll no doubt be covering him nearer the day
