Quevega’s a cert runner. This is her race, and in a few years time it’ll surely be know as the ‘Quevega Hurdle’. Unaccompanied or not, she’ll lash up. Nap of the week, every year 8)

She would cap a marvellous day for the punters if Sprinter and The Fly have done the business beforehand.
I can picture the scenes of Newspapers and Hats flying in the air as she pings the last 10 lengths clear :D,

I’m slightly embarrassed to admit I too have gone for the bleeding obvious with a first day AP NRNB treble, my intention was to try to cover the rest of my AP/NRNB investments which are almost all on long shots, 20/1, 33/1, 50/1, 66/1 plus Gailieo’s Choice (7/1)

    SPRINTER SACRE @ 10/11
    HURRICANE FLY @ 4/6
    QUEVEGA @ 1/2

    £819.30 WIN TREBLE

My only "fear" is the first one, the strange ammount is due to an odd balance in one of my accounts

Shack…Luckily it’s the bookies money I’m playing with. Although my NH season profits have been in steady decline since peaking when Voler La Vedette and Big Zeb won at Navan in November I’ve still got enough of "The Auld Enemy’s" cash left to see me through Cheltenham

I like the treble and good luck with it CS.

I have all three of them in singles myself but as for a treble, I’d much prefer to have Sizing Europe in there at evens than Hurricane Fly at 4/6.

I’m genuinely amazed at the difference in their prices. The former is the banker of the week for me (Quevega aside) and the latter has some decent opposition this time around.

Ah, Sizing Europe, what a horse he is at Cheltenham. I’ve backed him ever time he’s been here.

His injury cost me a winning Yankee the day he was about to canter home in The Champion Hurdle. Not his fault, I am just glad he came back from it, most never do.
Travel sickness beat him the following year but he’s more than repaid any debt he owed me or anybody else since.
Agreed he looks cast iron with only Big Zeb to beat, and he’s more than up to that task.
I will be backing him of course, I only left him out of that bet as I wanted to have my "banker" bet over before the National Hunt Chase and The RSA. That way I could decide whether to go in again on my (50/1 & 66/1) outsiders for each race.

Of course, who else?! The 5/4 that I got at Xmas time was pretty good in hindsight. My ew Kentford Grey Lady second, so reasonably happy.

Quevega/Sprinter Sacre double at 6/4 and 5/2 from January – like taking candy from a baby!

What a waste of time – forgive me if i don’t join in throwing my hat in the air for this penalty kick. Should have been running on Thursday, but thats Cheltenhams greed not Mullins fault for cashing in.

    As a punter i couldn’t give a hoot what race a horse runs in – a gamble’s a gamble in my book – a win is a win – nice!

In complete accordance with Peruvian Chief on this one.

Sure, Quevaga did it well – but what has she proved? Nowt!

SUCH a shame the public won’t see her against Big Bucks and co. Would it not be fairer to give the horse an opportunity to show how "good" she really is?

Congratulations if you backed the winner Wilt, but thats not really my point. I’d sooner see a clearly outstanding mare such as the winner going for the Stayers’ than beating tree’s in this race.

No fault of connections – lovely pot up for grabs, and she’s a Grade 1 winner already regardless. Just another example of the dilution of the festival.

I’m sure the owners of Quevega would rather win this race year after year – which is some achievement in itself – than settle for place money ( at best ) in the much more competitive World Hurdle.

Wullie Mullins probably said to them – look, I can wrap Quevega up in cotton wool and have her spot on for the mares’ race at Cheltenham, and I guarantee that you lot ( and Quevega ) will be entering the winner’s enclosure in March much more often than not.

How could they possibly turn an offer like that down ?

Wouldn’t disagree with you too much – but your opening sentence is guesswork on your part, wouldn’t it be nice to discover for sure?

I just watched the C4 interview with Ruby Walsh after the mare had won. With what seemed a rye smile on his face he said "look there were no jockeys hurt, and we can build a bridge over that (the "hurt" horses)".

Doesn’t betray a great sense of sadness over the loss of that old hero Scotsirish. Nobody expects the jockeys to go round crying their eyes out when a horse is lost in action, thats usually the job of the groom who is emotionally attached. But Scotsirish was a public favourite having been round the block many times and personally I think Walsh could have put his point across far better. Any "newbie" watching that could have been forgiven for concluding the top jockey on both sides of the Irish Sea doesn’t have a great deal of affection for the animals who have carried him to such a lofty status.

Compare this with Anthony Knott – imagine the reaction were Hunt Ball ever to meet with a terrible fate.
