It’s clearly based around the fact that she doesn’t run all year, and ends up making mugs of the bookies

It’s like throwing Frankel in a 0-55 round Kempton. Easy money

It’s moments like this that remind me of the upsides of Ante Post betting – after the news on Fingal Bay added to Last Instalment last week I begin to question why i do it. Then I think of the 13/8 + 6/4 Vouchers on Quevega
February 24, 2012 at 11:06 #393349Quevega is quite simply the banker of the year, nevermind the Festival, 4/6 is outstanding value, I wouldn’t offer 1/10.
February 28, 2012 at 17:29 #394045Quevega is no value now at 4/7 & whist she’s a banker, am not even sure I’d back her at that price on the day, though think bigger will be available then…
Ideally I’d back in the ‘without’ market, but as there isn’t one have had a few quid ew on
Kentford Grey Lady
at 16/1.
She’s got a touch of class, Ms Lavelle’s says she’s aimed at the race which could really cut up and leave just a handful of runners, so the place part looks very doable and there’s the chance of landing the win portion!
February 28, 2012 at 17:43 #394047Whilst having backed her at 5/4, I don’t think she’s bombproof this year. Some good opposition, I too like the look of KGL at big odds.
There’s no guarantees at the festival, I hate that word ‘banker’, makes you sound like an idiot if it loses!
February 28, 2012 at 18:53 #394063Quevega is a certainty, the shame is she hasn’t been more highly tried. Her win in the Punchestown 3-miler would put her very close to BB.
February 29, 2012 at 22:09 #394252Agree entirely with perpetual and rich, kentford grey lady will thrive in this and is certainly of interest EW. Last years quevega is unopposable but she could well have lost two limbs and Willie wouldn’t say a word.
Here’s to the value.February 29, 2012 at 23:12 #394259Can’t understand the lack of ambition by the connections of Unaccompanied!
Has been left in the race ‘just in case’ something happens to Quevega and she doesn’t run….if for some unfortunate reason Quevega doesn’t make it then Unaccompanied would more than likely line up…..strange move for me….grow a pair of bollocks and have a go at taking her on!!

I agree. The way he’s talking you’d think there was 20 pounds between them. What other races can she go to that would mean avoiding Quevega, and picking up better prize money than 1st or 2nd in the D Nicholson ?
March 1, 2012 at 13:35 #394308Unaccompanied just isn’t good enough in this era
Voler La Vedette represented the only serious danger but she’s 7lbs better in the Autumn than in the Spring and isn’t likely to run.
I feel really sorry for her, what a cracking mare she is, in another era she could have taken her pick, Champion, Mares or World, she could have won any of those but the sheer quality of the title holders is breathtaking , when has there last been that many superstars running at the same time?Nearest I can recall was in the days of Night Nurse, Golden Cygnet, Monksfield and Sea Pigeon but they were all two milers
March 1, 2012 at 14:15 #394313It’s a mares race, far less competitive. Quevega hasn’t had anything to beat in the past. As has been said, Voler not been as good at Cheltenham. She’s better than ever and would’ve had a chance at her best this year. So would Unacompanied, if she puts her disappointing run last time behind her. But it seems they’re unlikely to turn up. Favourite’s "Value" (imo) depends on neither of those turning up. If they’re absent 4/7 might look good on the day, but only on the day.
Being a mare, there’s a chance Quevega might be in season or another year on, not in as good form. I’d rather take her on. I too have backed Kentford Grey Lady. Jockey error last time, no wonder Emma turned to Noel Fehily. Trainer has a wonderful record with her few runners at the Festival. Jockey lengths behind at the start at Ascot, then gave her a hell of a lot to do, allowing Walsh first run in a 3 furlong sprint for home at Ascot. Of course nowhere near Quevega’s class, but at 16/1 each way is (imo) value.
Looks like Swincombe Flame might end up here, she’s been very progressive in handicaps this season and may be another each way steel.
Value Is EverythingMarch 1, 2012 at 14:32 #394315Planned attack for this is to wait until declarations now. On Quevega in loads of doubles and trebles. Limited exposure by covering KGL as many have.
On the day i will be doing the straight forecast Q to beat KGL too.
March 7, 2012 at 13:22 #395169Voler La Vedette not entered. looks a straightforward task for Quevega now.
March 7, 2012 at 15:27 #395201Unaccompanied still lurks in the entries. What’s Weld up to??

Just incase Quevega is pulled out I presume???
Stan Cosgrave, racing manager for the owners, Moyglare Stud, said: "Dermot put her in just in case something happened to Willie Mullins’ good mare (Quevega).
"It’s doubtful she’ll run, but if the good filly doesn’t run then she would.
"It’s just a safety valve. It’s unlikely, but you never know."

Yeah, i though QV is as certain as you can get to running, are they going to bring her over and then pull her out once QV goes to post?
March 8, 2012 at 01:06 #395279Quevega’s a cert runner. This is her race, and in a few years time it’ll surely be know as the ‘Quevega Hurdle’. Unaccompanied or not, she’ll lash up. Nap of the week, every year

She would cap a marvellous day for the punters if Sprinter and The Fly have done the business beforehand.
I can picture the scenes of Newspapers and Hats flying in the air as she pings the last 10 lengths clear
