Watching Coneygree back is a real treat. Didn’t quite appreciate it at the time but that was a breathtaking round of jumping.

Is it not a bigger risk running him on Good to Firm ground (in 25+ degree heat) at Royal Ascot? Can’t think of a Blue Bresil to win a turf race, let alone a 9-year-old.

Feel this race has been prone to some wild market swings in recent years. I remember Romeo Coolio starting 6/1 and going off 18/1 before finishing 2nd. Bill Joyce (Jonjo horse) backed in from 22/1 to 7/1 for some reason and finishing 15th. Hard to get too involved at this stage.

Still think there’s a chance Lossiemouth ends up here. Last year it was the Mares’ because Townend was on State Man for the Champion, this year I’d be surprised if he fancied Poniros. There’s also been a hint that Jade De Grugy will be switched to the Mares’ Hurdle, which makes sense if Spindleberry / Dinoblue are more fancied for the Chase.

The more I look at it, the more I think Leader d’Allier will be the mount of Paul Townend and therefore be nothing like a 16/1 price. Would expect a front-running ride.

Can’t work out why they dodge Cheltenham with Impaire Et Passe, was an excellent winner of the 2023 Baring Bingham. Admittedly this is his first proper year with the Ryanair option.

Just wonder whether Cheltenham is Handstands’ course. Seems to be 2/6 left-handed and 4/6 right-handed, and was pretty dismal in the 2024 Baring Bingham. Came into the season thinking Pauling should make him his no.1 King George horse, can see how well that worked out!

Think Gaelic Warrior runs and wins.

Think Quebecois might already be qualified for the Jack Richards but needs 4 chase runs for the Ultima. Nicholls has been alluding to the Ultima as the race that the owner sponsors. Would have a great chance imo.

Agree AndrewBeamish. Can’t think of a mare to have won the race, although know Annie Power and Voler La Vedette came close. Surprising given the allowance and that mares have farmed the Champion Hurdle in recent years.
