Ballyburn 8-1 ew for now.
They may revert back to the smaller obstacles after today. Trainer said trip no problem, but didn’t feel he jumped well enough.
April 29, 2025 at 19:22 #1728703Franciscan Rock for me. Didn’t want to bet him till the winter, but hands tied now, with him running Thursday

Hewick Just before offApril 29, 2025 at 19:30 #1728706Is Ballyburn all that good? Most of the horses he beat at Cheltenham and Punchestown last year have not done much for the form. OK, Handstands and Jingko Blue have won but I don’t think either are top drawer. The latter was fortunate in the Arkle.
Ballyburn did defeat Slade Steel at the DRF but he has done nothing since his win in the Supreme.
I can see the logic going back hurdling but there is something unconvincing about the horse now.

Might be over hurdles. Was OR162 as a novice and OR164 is the best currently on offer.
April 29, 2025 at 19:50 #1728710That was last season. Can he run to that rating now?
April 29, 2025 at 20:20 #1728711He’s still relatively young, so a chance to better it.
April 29, 2025 at 20:39 #1728714I think he does have a big engine but not convinced by him. Not got the toe for 2m over hurdles, and that head down, leaning on the bit style isn’t much good for 3 mile hurdling. Plus I think lighter nimbler horses are better for hurdles. He had the power to hammer the others last year but that isn’t enough in open company.

As I mentioned, he got 162 for ‘hammering the others last year’ and 164 is the best on offer so doesn’t need to find a lot. Mullins said in his interview today that he knows what a good hurdler he is (Mullins used the word fantastic), and that there might be a gap in the stayers hurdle division to take advantage of.
Nothing has been decided for definite yet so this debate might be for nothing ;o)
May 1, 2025 at 19:38 #1728902Teahupoo didn’t look like a horse in decline today. If he turns up next year, he is a big player.
Taken the 6/1 with Hills. If he has the usual preparation, I think he will be a fair bit shorter than that on the day.
He does need some ease in the ground but there is enough in the price to take that into account.
November 14, 2025 at 18:13 #1744517The New Lion 40-1 e/w.
Won’t have the pace for two miles, so will end up being rerouted here and will crawl into the frame.
November 14, 2025 at 18:23 #1744520Crawl …. He normally trots on the snaff …

November 15, 2025 at 20:10 #1744699You’re going to look a bit of a dunce if The New Lion doesn’t win the champion hurdle by 30l hard held HDLG!
Mister Meggit for me in the stayers! Has looked top class at times in the last couple of years and 50’s an fantastic price.
November 15, 2025 at 20:31 #1744702I’ll settle for 20 cider …

December 28, 2025 at 14:59 #1748900Ballyburn disappointing today. Does he truly stay 3 miles?
Added Impose Toi 15-2, he’s looking quite solid.
