He has sired multiple G1 winners. STS deserves a thread to track his progeny.
KNIGHT TO BEHOLD appears in the G2 G Dornano tomorrow at Deauville. Here is hoping he can get back to winning ways.
Lots of runners at York next week. CRYSTAL OCEAN in the G1 Juddmonte. SEA OF CLASS runs in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks. STREAM OF STARS / SEXTANT in the G2 Great Voltigeur.
I would love SEA OF CLASS to win this. She is beautifully bred and is owned by SEA THE STARS’ owners.
I worry the race comes so soon after the Newbury race. But as the owner says – there is only one OAKS. Tough decision for the trainer.
I would like KNIGHT TO BEHOLD to win this.
He is by my favourite racehorse/sire SEA THE STARS. The dam has sired five winners including a G3 winner in Japan.
It would be a nice reward for the owner/breeder Neil Jones.
Here is a report on SEA OF CLASS’ win in the Haras de Bouquetot Fillies Trial:

She is a lovely looking filly – chestnut like her grand-dam URBAN SEA. By the sounds of it she is quite FEISTY … classic chestnut mare some would say!
Pleased that William Haggas wants to take things slow with her. Personally I would rather she missed the Oaks and went to Royal Ascot. The hustle and bustle of a major G1 for a young impressionable filly could dent her confidence.
Here is hoping … maybe she is the next ENABLE …
You answered my question SEAING STARS!
So I notice SEA OF CLASS is owned by STS’ owners Sunderland Holdings. Fingers crossed she will follow in daddy’s footsteps.
She has good stamina on the distaff side. Her dam Holy Moon has produced five other winners with lesser stallions. This includes two indivual G1 winners in Italy. All in all SEA OF CLASS looks to have a blue-blooded pedigree.
Good spot JONIBAKE with SEA OF CLASS. I will keep an eye on her. Do we know where she goes next?
Really chuffed with CRYSTAL OCEAN. I like that SMS is taking things steady and continuing to build the horse’s confidence. He is off to the Hardwicke or Prince of Wales next.
We all know that STS produces class middle distance horses. A horse that caught my eye last season was the miler MUTAKAYYEF. He looked exciting when winning the G2 Summer Mile. Sadly he then did a ligament.
Does anybody know whether he will reappear this season?
Thank you VENTURE TO COGNAC.
Would it be possible to keep the thread here please?
Completely understand you organise the forum a certain way. I would just worry that activity on the thread would die after being moved.
Fewer people seem to read the “Trends, Research and Notebooks” section. I just want to promote SEA THE STARS and talk to people about him. Having the thread in “Horse Racing” will keep bringing it to people’s attention.
No worries if you want to move it though

Thank you SEAING STARS and MARGINAL VALUE
Thanks for your comment CANCELLO. It is great that SEA THE MOON stands in Newmarket – I must visit. My dream is to see STS himself at Giltown.
Nice performance from Stradivarius in the Yorkshire Cup yesterday. He is beautiful looking colt who is shaping into a class stayer. Hopefully he can reverse the form with ORDER OF SAINT GEORGE.
Is there anywhere I could watch a replay?
I see that CRYSTAL OCEAN runs today in the Al Rayyan Stakes (G3). Back over a longer trip he may be more convincing. As long as he wins I will be happy.
Are there any other nice STS 3yos – home or abroad?
In light of Knight To Behold’s rather taking win yesterday – I though I would resurrect this thread.
Are there are any other big STS fans out there who would like to discuss his progeny?
Going into the Lingfield Derby Trial the only horse I knew about was Kew Gardens. When KTB was sent forward at half-way I thought … nice move but that is going to be reeled back in close home.
Then he just kept galloping to the line and my eye was caught. After looking up his pedigree on RP I was delighted to discover he was by my all-time favourite STS. How exciting for my boy to have another classic prospect.
KTB has a fair bit of stamina on the distaff side and he looks to have a good engine. It is hard to guage where he might be against the better Coolmore prospects, as after the race I would say KG is rather ordinary.
I will certainly be following KTB going forward. As I will Crystal Ocean, who was a cosy winner of the Gordon Richards Stakes. Given the speed on his distaff side I would hope that – although he was campaigned for the St Leger last year – Sir Michael Stoute will keep him at 10/12f this year.
Anybody got any other interesting STS offspring to report?
Class horse – the way he acclerated to the front was impressive.
The Ballydole experiment of sending Galileo mares to Deep Impact may be a magic formula.

Here is a video of Silvianco Conti doing some XC schooling:
Watch Silviniaco Conti turn his hoof to cross-country schooling
Looks like he is a natural!
Cracksman really looked like his sire in that race. Similar massive stride where they extend their forelegs so far in front with an unbended knee.
You could just about have switched Frankel and the colours and few would have noticed it was a different horse!!
It helps that he has similar markings – star and socks.
My three favourite racing moments:
– Kauto Star’s 2011 Betfair chase win (as an 11yo). I was always a massive fan and followed him from his first Tingle Creek throughout the rivalry with Denman and then their dethroning by the young buck Long Run. Kauto had looked on the wane when he showed true heart to win this against his conqueror. Some horses just understand that they need to have their head in front. An emotional come-back moment followed up by another win in his favourite race the King George.
– Sea The Star’s 2009 Arc win. I remember him winning the 2000 guineas and funnily enough I actually wanted Fame and Glory to win the Derby against him. After he won the Derby it was love and I followed him all season. I was very nervous before the race and could barely watch it. I remember the commentary by Jim McGrath as Sea The Stars tried to weave his way to the front in the home straight – “he’ll have to be a champion to do it”. I often rewatch the replay and relive the moment.
– Amberleigh House’s 2004 Grand National (as a 12yo). This little horse had a good record in the race but was getting long in the tooth. He just economically cantered around Aintree in the middle of the field for the whole race whilst others did something more fancy in front. Turning into the home straight he was miles back but just kept on staying and creeping closer until he mugged Clan Royal near the line. It was a canny ride from Graham Lee showing that conservation of energy is massively important in the GN. Luckily my dad had recorded C4 racing (on VCR!) that day so I could rewatch the analysis.
Really pleased with Cloth of Stars – wonder if he will train on next year.
The sprint mare/STS cross would be intriguing. However, I suspect that the owners of such mares are taking a commercial view as between Galileo and his half-brother and going the tried-and-tested route.
Given STS was not exactly a precocious 2yo (although he did win the Beresford), it is not surprising his progeny take time. But the pay-off comes when you get a horse that wins into its 4/5yo seasons. By contrast, with a War Front you are pretty much done after their 2yo season!
Having looked at the nicks stats on RP, STS is 7/10 winners/runners with Danehill – which is the purported magic formula with Galileo. Interestingly he is 5/5 with Montjeu and 4/4 with Mark of Esteem.
