I backed Uxizandre for the Ryanair before the race on Saturday so got 20’s. Just annoyed that I backed Sizing John in the wrong race. First year I can remember that I haven’t had a really good ante post bet for Cheltenham to look forward to and first year also that I haven’t got any idea about the National, other than having to have my usual bet on Alvarado.
February 2, 2017 at 01:32 #1285264Well done with the early Uxizandre bet Moe. Might be worth holding off on Alvarado though, as he looks like he’ll really struggle to get in.
February 2, 2017 at 01:57 #1285265Yeah, despite my optimism, no surprise to me if he swerved Cheltenham.
It’s very difficult to crab Harry, and I’ll be amazed if there’s anything in there to trouble him now.
That NRNB is a great concession, and good luck with the pair of them. I’d agree about Peregrine Run, and he looks a live one, while I still think Coney could take in The RSA, but that’s the beauty of NRNB. I’ve no strong opinion on The JLT, but in The Coral Cup, I like the idea of Ptit Zig going there, while I’d love to know the wellbeing of If In Doubt, as he’d be a very strong fancy if he got an entry.
February 2, 2017 at 08:58 #1285276Pleasant Company seemed to run very well in the Thyestes. I was looking for Cheltenham quotes but couldn’t find any. Thought something like the Kim Muir? Enthusiasm tempered by his performance last year. Perhaps Cheltenham not his track, perhaps he has just improved?
February 2, 2017 at 18:46 #1285367I’m not sure of the plan myself, and he certainly gets his fair share of entries, without lining up. I do like him though, and have given him enough nods.
Don’t know if he hated Cheltenham or not, though my suspicion is that that race last year was a very strong renewal. He’d be too high for Kim Muir at the moment, though given his Supreme entry, who knows where he’ll end up, though I’d be surprised if he didn’t travel.
If he doesn’t figure there or at Aintree, I’d be very keen on him for The Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown.
February 4, 2017 at 14:05 #1285735I hope Alvarado runs well for you today Moe, to help him make the line up for Aintree.
February 5, 2017 at 20:01 #1286027Never seem to get Fergals horses right! Backed Arthurs Secret and Stoneham at Musselborough today and had no money back from Arthurs Secret. Annoyingly hadn’t backed it ew [put my bets on in the early hours of the morning when I should really be asleep; a bit like Dorothy Paget only I back them BEFORE they run and put 1/10000 th of the amount on that she did..ie 2p ew]. But when I looked up Stoneham [because I couldn’t remember why I’d backed it] had a chuckle to myself to read it’s owned by ‘The Dregs of Humanity and partner’. [turned out it was in my Jumping Prospects book as one to follow]. Am wondering now who the ‘and partner’ is and why they don’t want to be a dreg of humanity. Would have been well brassed off if I’d made a mistake with the Stoneham bet….
February 5, 2017 at 20:07 #1286029….relieved that My Murphy didn’t win today as I didn’t back him although Usual Smurfer was placed and I was on him ew. I think they’re both horses that seem to run in the Kerry National year in year out which is why I usually can’t leave not back them. these days I just have trainers and jockeys that I follow blind [Paul Hanagan on the flat; the bubble seems to have burst with the Graham Lee bumper rides unfortunately]. Also back Shark Hanlon when he has a runner and dear old Mrs Doyle [who’s not so old].
February 5, 2017 at 23:48 #1286046That Pertemps qualifier was probably the most frustrating race of the weekend. They just dawdled round and then sprinted up the straight. About the furthest thing from a test of stamina you could imagine.
Sorry to say but Usual Smurfer looks a bit of a dog. He had every chance to go past and seemed to choose the easiest option.
I thought Oldgrangewood was the most impressive winner of a pretty average weekend. Any chance he might take in the novices handicap at the Festival?
Backed Bonny Kate in today’s staying handicap chase. Have a feeling I wouldn’t have been the only one thinking it was only a question of time before she picked the leader up.
Thankfully, I opposed Clan Des Obeaux on Saturday. Easily my worst ante-post failure. Shouldn’t have been taken in by the Newbury romp.
February 6, 2017 at 00:41 #1286066Funny you should mention The Pertemps Qualifier, I’m just in from work, and it’s the race I’ve got most interest in watching, so sitting here waiting to see the race on the replay programme on RUK. The horse I’m most interested in will be Wotzizname, who I see got 4th.
I missed the racing today, so didn’t get the chance to see Smurfer (I’ve had a few bets on him in the past), but I will try to record ATR replay to watch it, as I don’t like watching ATR replays on my Laptop, as it hates that site.
100% agree with Oldgrangewood, and for me, he was one of the horses to take out of the weekend, not only for this season, but next term too. He first caught my eye against The Dutchman last time out, and that was another big step in the right direction. It all depends on how much he gets raised for that win, as he might be too high in the weights now, but The Novice Handicap on Day1 could be perfect for him, and owners might be wanting to go one better, having had Bouvreuil go so close in the race last year.
I could see Clan Des Obeaux continue to be one of those horses who continue to frustrate, but land the odd top end handicap when least expected. I was taken in by that Newbury run as well, and him marked down as a potential top notcher.
Very happy with Otago Trail on Saturday, and that run has already made me a few quid in my Grand National “book”, but that was about the only highlight of the weekend. I only had one bet on Saturday, Itstimeforapint, and he was easily brushed aside. In Bonny Kate’s race yesterday I, again, went for Captain Von Trappe, who I was very happy to get at 28’s. I see he fell yet again. He’s is the perfect definition of a “Cliff” horse for me, but his jumping is brutal, and I’ve wasted a right few quid on him this year. I also had a “fun” bet on Argentino, but looking at the report, he was very poor, and I really should have heeded his price.
February 6, 2017 at 01:09 #1286068So unlucky with Stoneham moe, that would have been a nice winner for you if he had got up. Will you be backing him if he turns up at Cheltenham. lol, that’s a cracking name for the owners.
My Murphy did me a turn in The Thyestes last year, but needs some help from the handicapper. I think he’ll be a cert to line up in The Irish National, and he’s one to keep an eye on definitely.
I think you’ve had it with Alvarado for Aintree, but nothing to stop him running a big race again in The Scottish version
February 6, 2017 at 15:51 #1286139Just dawned on me [bit slow, me] that the ‘Dregs of Society’ called their horse Stone’em! I guess the ‘partner’ is the one who isn’t a ‘pot head’. Takes me back to the Roll a Joint era!
February 6, 2017 at 19:14 #1286197Lol moe, I think you’ve cracked it. If I ever buy myself a horse, I’ll have to call it Midnight Toker
February 10, 2017 at 18:53 #1286682Oh joy; just got back from babysitting to find I’ve had a 25/1 and 33/1 winner. One a tip on talkinghorses, which I don’t class as my own but the other was good old Pam Sly’s bumper horse in the last at Kempton. Was a half brother to Actinpieces and Bonnets Vino so couldn’t understand why it was such a huge price. This is after I phoned Corals last night to ask why I wasn’t getting the best odds guaranteed on my winners. Seems I’ve been ‘blocked’ from having that. They’re running scared!!
February 10, 2017 at 21:40 #1286724Nice odds moe, well done

Bloody hell, why have they blocked you, you’re only a small staker?
February 10, 2017 at 23:25 #1286754Only blocked me from best odds guaranteed; had a Timmy Murphy winner yesterday backed at 9/1 but it started at 25/1 so I asked why I hadn’t had the best odds price. Thought maybe it was only betting shop bets but the guy said it was internet bets but they’d blocked it on my account. Their odds are always lower than everyone else and they only pay out 1/5 odds as well most of the time. Serves them right that the following day I have my best winning day ever! Pam Sly is so overlooked and she obviously doesn’t run a betting yard as the horse hardly had any money on it. Annoyingly the following race had a 100/1 winner, but it was one that even I wouldn’t have backed. The guy at Corals said he’d never seen an account like mine and obviously thought he was dealing with a totally deranged batty old woman..which he was!! Happy days!!
February 11, 2017 at 00:47 #1286774lol moe, with the prices you get, you are definitely not a deranged batty old woman…………if they’re taking BOG off of you, then you must be doing something right.
I never use them now anyway, because, as you say, they’re odds are rarely tempting, and don’t start me on that website. Bookmakers websites are, a few aside, absolutely terrible, but Coral’s has been a shambles for well over a year. What makes it worse, is that they’re well aware of it, and have done nothing to rectify it. I’ve not been able to do multis with them for a while, and last time I checked it was still the case. I thought I’d been barred from using Lucky 31’s etc with them, but my Coral Account was a sore losing one for me, so I pretty much assumed it was yet another software glitch. Awful firm, and I just steer clear now.
