In my view, the best racecourse in the UK is York. Best racing and the best facilities.
The only International racecourses I have been to are:
France – Longchamp
Kenya – don’t know the name of their racecourse (racing only on Sunday’s)
Hong Kong – Sha Tin
Australia – Melbourne, Sydney and HawkesburyMay 15, 2026 at 18:06 #1766886Im also on a mission to hit as many UK courses as possible.
Ive done around 50 English football grounds following Northampton, but given up on doing the ”92” as its an ever moving target.

May 16, 2026 at 19:19 #1767007In England & Wales I’ve done all bar Chester, Wetherby, Hexham, Chelmsford & Ffos Las but I haven’t done any Scottish tracks or either of the Northern Irish courses. I was intending to do all of them but gave up about 25 years ago and haven’t been to any course for at least 10 years so I suspect they are all very different now.
Abroad: Naas, Longchamp, Chantilly, Deauville.
May 16, 2026 at 22:28 #1767014I’ve been to every course in the UK. In Ireland I’ve just got Limerick and The Curragh to do and I will be going to both of them this week. I’ve also been to about 80 point to point courses.

Taby (Sweden – Closed)My wife will be irritated to know that I’ve kept her score which is 44! We have Pardubice penciled in for October. We did have a trip to Killarney and Cork planned for earlier this month but it clashed with an important hospital appointment so that will have to wait for later.
Most visited is Kelso on 147, but likely to be overtaken soon by the other course at which I have membership Musselburgh which is currently on 145 but has twice the number of meetings each year. Perth follows them at a distance and Ascot is my most visited track from my home patch, my first race meeting visit being Ascot Heath on 22nd June 1968.
Most frustrating one I tried to visit was Chepstow, 5 intended visits called off for waterlogging or frost including one 4 days before we moved from Oxfordshire to Scotland.
My late mother had two up on me as she visited both Lewes and Hurst Park. A few months before she passed away we had a good chat about her trips to Lewes which coincided with visits to family relatives in Tunbridge Wells.
May 17, 2026 at 23:04 #1767072As far as my memory serves, I have been to just five, all of them southern tracks.
Sandown, Kempton, Lingfield, Ascot and Windsor.
May 18, 2026 at 06:48 #1767074Pace has slowed in recent years while the kids have been growing up. Hope to chalk off more in the coming years. Might struggle with the North as now based on the South Coast.

May 18, 2026 at 10:59 #1767080Really good question. I’ve been going racing for the best part of 50 years, so the fact I’ve only been to 20 of the current venues (as well as a couple on the defunct list) suggests I’m a creature of habit.
If I ever get to retire, there’s a few on the bucket list – Hexham, of course, as well as Ludlow, Fakenham and the three big Dublin tracks.

May 19, 2026 at 15:49 #1767114threenaps,
I’m a Chelmsford boy who remembers seeing the old Galleywood course on the way to the White Bear, or playing a bit of cricket locally.
I haven’t been that way for decades, is the course still walkable?May 20, 2026 at 15:20 #1767137Haven’t been to an English racecourse since 2000, when I moved to Ireland.

WembleyMay 21, 2026 at 18:24 #1767166Hello Oscar,
I left Chelmsford 12 years ago, but I think its still unchanged, I have been going back quite a number of times recently for family reasons, next time if I get the chance I’ll go and see. Hopefully The Horse and Groom is still there.
May 21, 2026 at 19:05 #1767169This list has been unchanged for around 15 years. All have something to offer – vive la difference – but favourite courses are Doncaster, Hexham, Perth and Sandown while the least favourite is Newmwrket Rowley Mile which I found to be rather soulless.
Wouldn’t mind getting to Goodwood, and Fontwell to see the ‘figure of eight’ chase course, though in general I’ve rather lost interest in racegoing.
