Well, very happy that there wasn’t much money down last night, as it was a a bit of a damp squib. Few pennies back from Renneti, but sadly my timing looked to have been out on Kalann, and that “long barren spell” I spoke of, would appear to have kicked in already lol
Worst moment of the night though was Shake The Bucket romping home at 14’s. He made The Trifecta, and I did consider a saver before the off, but managed to talk myself out of it

On to todays action, and the price may have been butchered, but Oathkeeper looks a strong contender in the 1715.
I got a very nice return ew from Tocororo the other week at a very nice price, and no shame in going down to the very smart Ivan Grozny. Very interesting that she goes over fences relatively quickly, and she really appeals here.
Gussy Goose is another who’s been well back today, though still at a fair price, and he looks worth the risk based on his last run. Haven’t ruled out his stablemate Fit For The Job either. Will no doubt have a reverse forecast.
Bainne is a horse I’ve backed many a time, with returns very rare from those bets, but this looks do-able, and he’s a reasonable price.
Strongest fancy of the night would be Black Label in the last, and he’ll probably be the only one I bet on his own tonight, with the rest being part of a Mug 31, but considering a double with Gussy Goose.
As for Goodwood, just top quality action in store, and really looking forward to it. Again, like Galway, it’ll be mainly a Mug 63, but Second Wave, Boom The Groom, and Quebee could very easily be bet on their own, but I’ll see how things go today and play it by ear.

July 27, 2016 at 11:54 #1257755Bob i think SEA LIGHT win today has Byrnes plot all over i had him when he won first handicap as well what your views
July 27, 2016 at 12:07 #1257762Yeah, totally agree Darren, he looks, as you say, a total plot. I like the second fav also, The Mad Well, so maybe a reverse forecast for me in that race.
July 27, 2016 at 12:10 #1257765And bob today last day before golf starts so hope you be able to let me know your views on USPGA Thread
July 27, 2016 at 12:40 #1257772Boom The Groom saved the day yesterday, and 13-2 was a great price, very happy with that. Second Wave gave me a few quid back in the first, and having got a run for my money from Quebee, was fairly happy with how things. Quebee didn’t have the smoothest package, and I might just give him another chance.
On to todays card, and if I’m being honest, it’s a little bit “uninspiring”, not the best card that’s ever been staged at Glorious Goodwood, so won’t be too many pounds down. I’ll enjoy most of the races without financial interest.
I do like a couple of them though, and in the first, with him having caught the eye last time, I’m happy to have Oceane on my side, and even happier with the 10’s. I’ll also take chance with Seaside Sizzler at the 28’s. Has ran well in this before, and after appearing to go off the boil, I hope that the headgear can turn his fortunes around. Both 5 places.
The Lacemaker showed glimmer of ability on debut, and as much as I really like the fav in this, a stab at an each way return might just be worth it at the 20’s.
In the last, I’m willing to give The Warrior one more chance at a price, 16’s, though I’m not sure he really deserves it, based on last 2 runs. I’ll split him with Al Khan, who looks far too big at 25’s, and the more I look at him, the more I like him. Both 5 places.
On to Galway, and nothing much to write home about yesterday, few losers which didn’t give me too many headaches, as wasn’t much money down. Main loser was the double with Gussy Goose & Black Label, which never really had the bookies in a sweat at any time.
In the 1535, I’ve went for The Brock Inn at 25’s. She gave me a decent return at a big price at The Punchestown Festival, and after a “so-so” run last time, I’m hoping she’s one of those, who saves her best for the big stage.
As I said to Darren in previous post, torn between Sea Light & The Mad Well in the 1610, and the sensible option might be the reverse forecast. I might have a few quid on The Mad Well out of the 2 though, as he looks a fair price at 8’s.
July 27, 2016 at 12:41 #1257773Darren, mind what I said about the golf last week.
I’ll give it a miss. Sigh. How many times do I have to say this.
July 27, 2016 at 17:50 #1257841Had decent day Bob in my thread with horses but been better if SEA LIGHT was 5/1 into 7/4 had won people in bookies slated Russel but i felt got bit of trobule before 2nd last what you think.
July 28, 2016 at 00:24 #1257910I was watching him through the race Darren, and if had bet him outright, I’d definitely have liked to have seen him closer. It wasn’t a shocker of a ride though, and wouldn’t hold it against Russell too much, though no doubt a winner that got away for you.
July 28, 2016 at 13:36 #1257999At Goodwood, Oceane ran a screamer, and The Warrior managed to sneak 5th in the last, so although comfortably a losing day, those 2 placed at 11’s and 16’s certainly made life a lot easier.
Nothing much doing at Galway or Goodwood today, though I do have a Mug 63 across the cards.
In the big race of the day, The Galway Hurdle, Princely Conn sneaks in now by the look of things, so I’ll have a few quid on him each way at the expected bigger prices on the exchanges. I’ve went off my 2 slightly, Modem & Rock The World, but I’ll have a small top up at 22’s and 25’s to cover the 5 places. Been a graveyard for me this race in the past, so not particularly confident.
At Goodwood, main fancies would be in the last 2 races, though I do actually like Sandro Boticelli in the big one, and having bet him last time, it’s clear to say what he lacks in ability, he makes up for in attitude. In the 1655 I’m torn between Devilish Guest, and Tap Tab Boom, while in the finale, I’m torn between A Momentofmadness and Sign Of The Kodiac.
I’ll end up betting a couple of these on their own, as well as the 63.

July 29, 2016 at 10:55 #1258145Much much better yesterday, and Modem & Princely Conn both did the business in The Hurdle. Had Modem at 33’s EW Ante-Post, so very happy with that. Princely Conn was even better. I’m not one for mentioning Exchange Prices after the event, but had him each way at significantly bigger odds than his SP, so was absolutely delighted with him. I also had a big play in running on him, which was just a bonus. For a brief moment thought the Forecast was going to be landed, but not to be, though the race itself put a totally different slant on the week for me, so very, very happy.
As for today, well in the first, Heartbreak City looks very overpriced at 5’s, and got to have a go.
In the 1845, Aranhill Chief has got to be the bet. For being a somewhat low key chaser, he remains one of the most profitable horses in training for me, and had a great time of it with him the last 3 summers. He did the business here for me 2 years ago, and can’t possibly be against him. Massive dangers in the JP pair, Waaheb, and Sir Abbot. Waaheb looked a horse who ran very much with Galway in mind last time, and with 5 places available on this race, the 8’s Waaheb, and 16’s Aranhill Chief is too goo to refuse. With those 5 places, Sir Abbot may very well get bet on his own as well.
Ballybacka Queen in the 1850 wouldn’t be as big a fancy, but at 25’s, I reckon she has place claims.
Finally in the 1925, too short for me, but I’ll be looking for a big run from Ivan Grozny, as I really like him for The Ebor, and have a few quid at 20’s plus.
Goodwood was frustrating yesterday, and as per previous days, had 3 winners…………but only in Nathans Comp. Not a penny on any of them. Dammit

Three bets today at Goodwood, and all at a price.
In The Betfred Mile, my old pal Belgian Bill looks primed for a big run. Conditions will suit, well they should do, having “won” it last year. That 2015 race was incredibly frustrating. I had him each way at 20’s plus, and he did me proud, filling the runners up spot, only to be awarded the race several months later when the winner was disqualified. That was a few hundred quid that got away that day, so hopefully a recovery mission today for Bill………….and myself of course. I’m on Ante-Post at 20’s, and have topped up at 16’s to take the 5 places.
Leap of faith with Move In Time in The King George, but the ability is there, and I’ve had to have a few quid at the 100’s each way, 4 places, and 66’s 5 places.
Finally, in the 1620, I think Monks Stand looks a wee bit overpriced at 16’s, and happy to take a chance on him each way.
July 29, 2016 at 18:02 #1258217Bob any views on 2.00 at Goodwood i like GAMESOME While it be Raucous in Stewards for me
July 30, 2016 at 02:18 #1258311Hi Darren, I’ll be with Hoof It in that race, he’s a crazy looking price.
I’ve got my 14’s for Orions Bow in The Stewards Cup
Good luck today Darren
July 30, 2016 at 11:23 #1258378Crossbar again yesterday with the forecasts. Following on from Princely Conn, and Modem 3rd and 4th in The Galway Hurdle, I had to watch Master The World, and Belgian Bill, get 2nd and 4th in The Betfred Mile. So close, and would have both been decent payouts.
Another decent day though yesterday, to follow on from the Thursday.
Aranhill Chief was my second biggest bet of the week, Shanpallas was the biggest
, and he only found one too good. He’s just been a very good horse to me, and I was more than happy having the each way returns at 16’s. Not sure if he’ll squeeze out another big run this summer, but I’m hoping they can get one more out of him anyway. What can I say about Heartbreak City. I had a good go yesterday. He’s some horse, and he must have shout in The Ebor
More than happy to see Ivan Grozny get another easy win. Probably went on about him too much this year, feel as if I mention him every week, but with 20’s and 25’s on him for The Ebor Ante-Post, I’m just hoping he makes it.
Talking of Ante-Post, was very happy to get a return, albeit from a smaller bet than Aranhill, with Belgian Bill in The Betfred Mile. Second year in a row he’s got me a few quid, and he’s just a very likeable, solid horse. Had a few quid each way on Master The World at 22’s, and he went agonisingly close, but a great run nonethless, and very pleased to get a return from 2 of them, the winner just looks a very very good horse, and no shame in losing out to him.
Hoping for a big run from Orions Bow in The Stewards Cup today. On at 14’s Ante-Post, but kicking myself for not having more on. He’s paid his way though, I caught him at Hamilton last time, and it’s a tough tough race to land. Poyle Vinnie 50’s, and Ninjago 33’s, both 6 places are the backups.
As I said to Darren, big fan of Gamesome, and just topped up at 16’s win only. Got him and Hoof It, 14’s and 22’s, both 5 places, and as I’m not betting in too many races, I might just cover Fairway To Heaven in this at 25’s.
That’s it for Goodwood, and only one bet at Galway. I really like Wrath of Titans in the 1515, and he’s taken 25’s, and 22’s 5 places.
July 30, 2016 at 16:40 #1258442Well done with HOOF IT bob hope you got 22s mate big gamble on him they knew they knew
July 30, 2016 at 16:46 #1258445Bob any views on Galway for sunday i leave SEA LIGHT i will but like Mr Fiftyone to beat Devils Bride
What your review on Galway i not seen all races here this week but as you know big on IVAN GROZNY for ebor. While next year no shock if HEARTBREAK CITY who won by a 1L but if out quicker he scoot away for easier win. can see him back for Galway hurdle next year. While ON FIDDLERS REEL for a horse not run a lot over fences he took GALWAY apart jumped so well could be a plate horse next year.
July 31, 2016 at 02:11 #1258481Thanks Darren, very happy to get in before the gamble, and had a fair go at the 22’s, a great end to the week, and you must know my views on Heartbreak City by now lol
I’ll give you my proper thoughts tomorrow mate, just in from work, and bedtime lol, though what I will say is that Mr Fiftyone would be my biggest fancy tomorrow, and 7’s is too big.
Zzzzzz
July 31, 2016 at 10:32 #1258488Brilliant day yesterday with Hoof It doing the business, and as I said on previous post, just fab to be ahead of the gamble, and he was a decent winner for me.
Orions Bow didn’t quite get there, but still fairly pleased to get an another each way return for an Ante-Post punt, albeit a smaller one.
Goodwood, done and dusted then, but Galway rolls on, and I must be getting old……..I forgot it ran till the Sunday. I was looking forward to the break lol
In the 1415, Cradle Mountain looks overpriced at 8’s, possibly down to his, relative, inexperience, and I can’t see him being too far away. I follow USA, and he’s, to be honest, cost me more than a few quid. Last chance saloon for him today I reckon, as far as my cash is concerned, but I do think conditions will suit, and at 25’s, he’s worth an each way pop. Finally, and I really hope this is another “Hoof It”, as I’m on Black Label at 25’s. He’s now as low as 8’s, and getting backed off the boards. I bet him the other day, and he ran better than the result suggested, and couldn’t believe the price, I’m not surprised it’s crumbled.
In the 1445, as you say Darren, it may be wise to oppose Sea Light again, especially at that price, and I’m looking to 2 outsiders. Don’t laugh, but I think Colbert Station will run well, and if today is not the day, the old boy is worth keeping an eye on. He showed far more than his form suggested in his last few runs, and looked as if he was being prepped to pop up one day. It’s possible he met with a setback, but at 33’s, I think he has one last hurrah in him, and at that price, I’ll take a chance that it’s today. Call Vinnie at 28’s also looks way overpriced, and I’ve got to be with him as well.
Finally, in the 1630, the very very decent Mr Fiftyone looks an absurd price at 8’s…….I thought he’d be favourite.
Darren, for previous runners this week, obviously with you on Ivan Grozny. Been banging his drum all year, and I reckon they’ve got a potential top notcher on their hands, and suspect they haven’t quite got to the bottom of him yet. I’d be very surprised if we don’t see him in The Fighting Fifth.
The same obviously applies to Heartbreak City. I’ve been banging his drum too. He’s won me a fair few quid already, and sky’s the limit. Champion Hurdle?
On Fiddlers Green, wow, he was dynamite round there, and even though I was with Aranhill Chief, Fiddlers could be called the winner a long way out. De Bromhead clearly has a decent animal on his hands, and yeah, The Plate is the obvious target looking ahead. I think he’s still a novice, so that opens up a few targets at Cheltenham, while the way he jumped round there, I wouldn’t rule out The Topham. Was very impressed by him.
In the same race, Knockanarrigan suggested that a big staying chase wouldn’t be beyond him, while Wrath of Titans ran yesterday as if he needed the run, and I reckon they’re plotting him up for something. I’ll have a proper look back at the Galway races when I get a chance, but the one I thought of when you asked the question Darren, was Oathkeeper, he could easily be better than he showed the other day, and no surprise to see fellow JP runner, All The Sevens, continue his improvement.
