Starmer isn’t the problem, so changing the leader will not help Labour. The source of the problem is that Labour have continued to adopt devious Tory policies. The Tories froze the tax free rate in 2022 and reduced the basic rate to 20%, claiming they had reduced taxation. They hadn’t of course; they had made sure the biggest burdon was on the poorest shoulders. If you analyse the May election results you will find Reform won in areas of extreme poverty. People on low incomes cannot make ends meet; they are getting more and more in debt and do not know which way to turn. They see that the Tories will never help them and are disgruntled that Labour are just as bad. The solution is to get back to a fair tax system. After all, income tax was supposed to be based on ability to pay.

The solution is to increase the income tax free allowance to £18,000 per annum and increase the basic rate to 25%.

I read that a Reform councillor has said there are too many Nigerians in his area and that they should all be used to fill potholes. I find it very sad that so many people are happy to vote for such a racist party. When I was young very few people would go near racist parties.

All I was pointing out is that it is too easy to blame jockeys. I agree Oisin Murphy is a class above Hollie Doyle, but behind Ryan Moore. In one race abroad I remember Hollie Doyle beat Ryan Moore into second. Does that make her a better jockey than the master? Of course NOT; she was on the better horse.

I know being jocked off happens to many riders, but that does not make it right

Blackcounty Kid, It should be perfectly obvious that the Birmingham Council will carry on as before. Left leaning councillors (Labour, Liberal Democrats, Greens and Independent = 61 while the far right (Reform and Conservatives) = 38. That is unless Reform can persuade all the Independents to join them which is unlikely.

The problem is that Starmer is a lawyer, not a politician. Nobody believes what Starner says, because nobody can work out what he stands for. He reacts to events, rather than making sensible decisions and strongly defending them. For example, he has made life difficult for legal immigrants (who we need for care and the NHS) whereas he should hwve said we are tackling illegal immigrants within the constraints of International Law, while pointing out how we all suffer if International Law is abandoned. He only has to illustrate how the USA is falling apart. He was right to refuse to join the war against Iran, but he should have prevented Trump using bases in this country. Consistently is required.

Reform have done well in the Liverpool area, not Liverpool City itself. Reform will win in very poor Labour areas as the voters there believe their lives have not improved and want change. They would never vote Conservative and simply do not understand that Reform is actually far right of this right wing party. It is like turkeys voting for Christmas. In areas where the Conservatives had a massive majority Reform could do well and many of them are on the extreme right of the party.

As for a right wing coalition (Reform + Conservatives) after the next generation there is little chance of this. Left wing voters (apart from the very poor) will vote Liberal Democrat, while extreme left wing voters will vote Green. After the next General Election I I expect the order to be Reform, Liberal Democrats, Labour, Conservatives and Green. The most likely outcome would be a Liberal Democrat government, supported by Labour and the Greens. Even then the majority will be very thin.

Of course the above forecast is based on how things are now. Within two years Trump might be gone and the US will be in crisis mode thanks to his policies. People will realise the stupidity of voting for a ‘Trump’ party and Reform could implode. If that happens then Reform voters will go back to the Conservatives and poor voters will go back to Labour. We could have a very interesting outcome.

We don’t need a ‘balls up’ in local elections. Reform could do a lot of damage to local communities and will if elected. I hope the electorate see sense in time.

The main problem is our vile and biased gutter press. They gleefully report that Starmer apparently was given a free pair of spectacles from somebody but failed to report that Farage has just received a £5 million private donation from a foreign billionaire. I am told that one of this billionaire’s policices is that all Muslims should be deported from this country. So the £2 billion Reform will spend setting up an ICE type agency will spend its time deporting immigrants as well as Muslims
How could anyone vote for such a vile party?

Today’s boost was Esna to finish 1st or 2nd 5/4 (was 8/11). Do these boosts ever win? Another one bites the dust!

I just hope that Starmer and ALL politicians learn a lesson from King Charles 111’s state visit. Our great King clearly understands the difference between right and wrong and is not afraid to spell it out. He stressed the importance of the rule of law and the necessity to have checks and balances in any democracy.

If only Starner had the courage to say it as it is, rather than pussy footing around by avoiding any issue he finds controversial.
Labour are doing a good job and if Starmer stood up to the Reform bullies he would find the electorate behind him. As it is Reformn (we don’t beliece in the rule of law) are not challenged so the dumb part of the electorate believe they must be right.

The USA emphasises that neither the Iranian team nor their supporters are welcome and indicates that even their team would not be safe. Despite all this FIFA (Feeble idiots fu…..about) will not move Iran’s games to Canada or Mexico. If you wrote this storyline in a book everyone would say it was pure fiction!

I studied Finance and Accountancy for 5 years. The examinations were hard; there were 5 parts with 4 subjects per part. Fail one subject out of 4 and you had to take the whole lot again. The pass rate was around 33% per part, so if you made it to the end you were doing well. The upside was once you passed employers were lining up.

I now read a University if offering a two days a week course in Finance and Accountancy. The only way they can do this is to dumb things down. It appears that university degrees are going from bad to worthless. The pity is that for these potential students by the time they graduate AI will have taken over mundane jobs. Companies will only employ those with experience.

The reason jockeys still use the whip when they are well clear on the run in is that they are terrified their horse might stop and they get caught just before the line. If this happens the suspension they suffer if far greater than if they used the whip more times than permitted.

The rules should be changed to the effect that if a jockey puts down his whip because he thinks he is well clear there should be no punishment if he gets it wrong.

ExRubyLight, It is obvious that you know nothing about horse racing. For a start, a fence no longer takes up the whole width of a course so a riderless horse can simply go round it which is what they sometimes do. Secondly, in every race there is a strict limit on how many times a jockey can hit a horse and where he can hit it. Exceed this number by one and the jockey gets a suspension. Exceed by 2 and the suspension is longer. If the number exceeds the upper limit the horse is disqualified and the owner gets nothing. So there is no incentive to win at all costs. Racing is NOT cruel

There is far too much of ban this, ban that! The RSPCA are always moaning about something. Ban greyhounds and they would’t be bred. No matter how safe things are made, accidents, rare as they are, will always happen. We had one special race where a moderate horse could become a hero – the Grand National run only once a year. But thanks to the RSPCA and other moaners the distance of the race was shortened
and the fences were made easier. Now it is an just an ordinary steeplechase. But we still have accidents. So let’s ban steeplechases and then let’s ban horse racing altogether.

The RSPCA does not seem to understand that horse racing is NOT cruelty. Horses love to race and if they don’t want to they would not do it. When not racing they live in what we would call a 5☆ hotel. It is an absolute fact only happy horses win races.

As for water jumps they are just part of the course. If you watch racing you will see horses who have fallen earlier will jump the water jump without their jockey. Because they enjoy it!

We are in the middle of a crisis with the USA not only starting an illegal war but adding fuel to the flames to ensure is cannot end, thereby causing chaos to the whole world. Starmer is the only UK politician trying to do something about it. Yet all we seem to want to discuss here is history- Mandelson. Quite amazing in my view!
